Golden Age Of Equality
As the bullet pierced Harrison s heart, the audience froze while thinking if their society was truly
equal. The movie 2081 gives us a fresh new meaning of equality. The society forces people s talents to
be equal, so no one would have an advantage. This includes their strength, intelligence, and beauty.
The society would call it the Golden Age of Equality however Harrison would disagree with that
statement. 2081 and the real society can be very different on how they treat the extraordinary and their
meaning for handicap, while at the same time they can both be similar like how they both have
punishments and there s a type of police force to keep citizens safe.
Although 2081 is a completely different society and is considered a dystopia, ... Show more content

A very unusual and new concept that 2081 uses is that they try conceal people s intelligence, strength,
and beauty while while the real world wants you to improve or express those qualities. In the
beginning of 2081, its states, The strong wore weights to make them weaker; the intelligent wore
earpieces that kept them from taking unfair advantage of their brains, Even the beautiful, sometimes
wore masks in situations where their beauty might simply be too distracting. This explains how the
society in 2081 brings down the intelligent, the strong, and the beautiful, preventing them to reveal
any of those qualities. However, the real world rewards all of the things that the government in 2081
tries to hide. For example, in a high school graduation the school would give recognition to the
valedictorian, which encourages students to do better in academics. While in 2081, they would not
honor or give recognition the intelligent, instead they would try to make them more unwise, so no one
would see the person s real capabilities. The real society would never attempt to make a student more
unwise like how the society in 2081 would. Our school system encourages for improvement on test
scores or grades, and not disprovement. In 2081, the society has a different perspective of a
handicapped person from the real world. The real world views a handicap person as someone with a
disadvantage while in 2081 they view it as someone who has an advantage. In 2081, Harrison was
considered, handicap even though he was a genius and strong. However, this is different to the real
society because a handicap person today, would be someone with a physical or mental problem such
as someone who can barely walk. This shows, that a handicapped person from 2081 would have the
exact opposite skills as a handicap person in the real society. The society of 2081 would label a weak

High Chektogenic Diets
There are several diets which are designed to help obese individuals to reduce weight. Due to the fact
that so many illnesses (e.g. diabetes, high cholesterol) are related to the effects of obesity,
understanding the physiology of weight loss has become ever so important. One of the most popular
and widely researched diets, which are used for the treatment of obesity, is the ketogenic diet. This
diet is not only known for its use in the treatment of obesity, but is also known to play a positive role
in the treatment of several illnesses. Initially, this diet was solely used for treating people with
epilepsy. However, starting from the 1970s, the diet became known for its role in promoting weight
loss and also in the treatment of other illnesses (e.g. cardiovascular disease). In addition, the diet is

other groups remained at around 3.4 lb per animal. Although both groups lost the same amount of

Comparing the Emplementation and Scrutinizing of Proposed Bills in the House of Commons and
Congress
This essay will examine how two institutions, namely the House of Commons and Congress, which
are supposed to serve the same process, differ widely in the way they implement and scrutinise
proposed bills. The essay will examine the relationship between the legislature and the executive; the
importance of the party; and the constitutional arrangements which give each legislature very different
characteristics.
The French philosopher Montesquieu said that there could be no democracy unless the three branches
of government, legislature, judiciary and executive, were separate bodies, which acted as ... Show

A $1.7 trillion annual budget and congressional decentralization through the committee system allows
lawmakers to specialize and make decisions on a wide range of complex topics. This is very different
to the House of Commons (HoC), which has a much smaller budget and a less rigorous committee
system. The rigorous nature of the Congressional committee system (CCS) could be seen as
advantageous since it allows detailed legislation on potentially complex topics to be written. However,
the composition of the committee may not be unbiased, and once the legislation has been drafted it
must be ratified by the rest of Congress.
Since the CCS is so important to the USlegislative process the membership of the committees requires
careful consideration. The composition, range of interests, and the scope of their policies are
determined by the members. If a committee were full of like minded people that were not socially
representative of the people the policies concern, then it is feasible for the democratic process to be
undermined. Furthermore, the quality of the resulting bill is highly dependent on the ability of the
committee members. To counter these potentially negative influences the bill must be ratified by
Congress once it leaves the Committee phase.
With 535 members of Congress it can be very

MOM Up Review
MOM UP is a delightful broad comedy. The concept for MOM UP is a lot of fun and delivers a strong,
eccentric, and very colorful protagonist in Roxy Holliday. Even her name is fun.
The goal is clear and the stakes are personal. The script is driven by themes about growing up,
learning to move forward, and appreciating who you are.
There s no doubt that the highlight of this script is Roxy. She s amusing to watch. She s clearly flawed,
controlling and reckless, but there s something very charming about her. She really has a good heart,
but she makes the wrong decisions for the right reasons.
As much as one really adores Roxy, the script would benefit from more development. It s the structure
and pace that are worthy of discussion.
Basically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One has to understand a bit better what her life was like growing up with Roxy. She needs to learn to
appreciate Roxy s eccentric, free spirit behavior. Amanda works well as the uptight woman and at the
end make sure she learns to be a bit more reckless, as Roxy becomes more mature. As mentioned,
however, the relationship between her and Bo isn t well understood.
Right now, none of the supporting characters standout, with the exception of Kiley. She s likable and
she has the opportunity to even verbalize some wisdom to Roxy. However, there s really no need for
both Kiley and Alex. They have similar type roles, so consider combining.
Richard doesn t feel essential or understood. Ernesto never really engages. Rusty has strong potential,
but feels underused.
The dialogue is sharp and reveals information about the characters. Roxy s voice is very consistent
with her personality. Amanda s voice sounds uptight, which is also congruent with her personality.
There s nice subtext we all eventually become our mother. Make sure to pay this off.
The script is professionally presented. However, be careful in the narrative of asking too many
questions, as this can be distracting and the audience can t see these questions or comments. There s
no need to repeat BFF. On page 33 there s a small typo Oxy vs. Roxy and on page 45 about getting the

Omnivore s Dilemma Summary
The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, by Michael Pollan, is about one man s
journey through the food production system and how he arrives at the conclusion that although
hunting and gathering may be an excellent means to keep oneself healthy, it is really up to the
individual as to what they are willing to put in their body. Pollan begins section 1 ( Industrial Corn )
by analyzing how far the practice of shopping for groceries at the supermarket has taken modern
society from the natural environment the food is (presumably) gathered from. He cites the florescent
lighting, comparing it to the less harsh rays of the sun. From here, Pollan relates the story of a corn
farmer from Iowa, George Naylor, to expound upon the impact

Essay on A Storm of Emotion in Kate Chopin s The Storm
The Storm of Emotion
Usually a storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. In The
Storm, Kate Chopin develops a parallel between a rainstorm and an emotional storm in a woman s
life. Chopin uses symbolism to depict the feelings of relationships that are as unpredictable as that of a
raging storm.
In the time frame that this story is set, many major life decisions things are made taking into account
one s duty to family including the selection of a husband or wife. It is possible that each of these
couples may not have been in love, when their vows were stated. They have a duty to society; they
must not marry outside of their social class. They have a duty to their family; ... Show more content on

When Alcee rides up at the beginning of the storm Calixta gathers her husband s Sunday clothes in
order to remember her sense of duty and loyalty to her husband. Respecting social graces, Alcee tries
to stay outside, but the storm drives him into the house. Inside Calixta s home Alcee can see into her
dim and mysterious bedroom, this foreshadows the forbidden relationship that takes place.
As the storm intensifies so does the physical relationship between these twomarried people. The
incessant lightening is the nagging desire between this man and woman. As the storm begins to fade
and the thunder to growl from a distance, these two lovers are reminded of their forbidden love (668).
The glistening green of the world is the happiness of a fulfilled and closed relationship that allows life
to continue (668).
It is interesting how Ms. Chopin uses the thunderstorm to parallel with theintensity of the relationship
between Alcee and Calixta. Ms. Chopin creatively parallels the development of the thunderstorm to
that of the physical development between Calixta and Alcee. In the beginning, the rain slowly begins
to fall as the emotions between the two past loves are starting to rekindle. Then, as the storm proceeds
to intensify, Alcee is forced inside the house, alone with the woman of his desire. When the lightening

Literary Analysis Of August Strindberg s Play Miss Julie
To set up the tone, content, and structure of this sociological analysis of August Strindberg s play Miss
Julie, the following two quotes will be compared and contrasted. One from German economist,
philosopher, and promenade socialist, Karl Marx and another from author, actor, and theatrical
theorist, Jeremy Rockwood. The first quote comes to us from Marx s Manifesto of the Communist
Party, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles, (Lermert 43). The
second from Rockwood s book The Craftsmen of Dionysus: An Approach to Acting, An exact
duplication of real life is not the purpose of the theatre nor of any art. In order to present his special
insight, the artist selects, heightens, distorts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No, thank you! Then I have something better myself. Following this he pulls out a bottle of wine
referring to it as pure. He will only indulge in the rituals the class he strives to be apart of does as a
symbolic way of removing himself from his won social standings (Strindberg 3). Marx s quote is
commenting on the class conflict he observed across world cultures. He attributed social stratification,
where oppressors put constant pressure on their oppressed, as the source of conflict. Stratification is
present in all social structures on various gradations and exists on both the large and small sides of the
scale. Within the general overarching classifications, gradation continues to narrow the social position
of people further. Example, in parts of Europe during the middle ages the system in place was the
Feudal System, the king had the most power and agency, while the peasants had the least, in between
were nobles and knights. Inside of each of these groups existed further classifications, within the
peasants category there existed merchants, farmers, craftsmen, serfs, etc.. These smaller titles all held
a different levels of respect, power, and agency. Rockwood was commenting on the intent of
naturalism and realism in the theatre. The most effective purpose, he proposes, is that they are meant
to resemble but heighten real life, never actually replicating it. The job of an artist is to take their
observations

Use Of Dark And Light In Macbeth
The tragedy of Macbeth tells a tale of a man s ambition for power and rise to it. Many scholars
consider Macbeth to be Shakespeare s darkest work. Shakespeare is known for his use of imagery,
similes, and metaphors in his work. Dark and light, a strong motif in the tragedy of Macbeth, is often
used not only in literature, but in everyday life to contrast good and evil. People often associate
darkness and dark things with evil and death, while the opposite applies to light. Light is most often
associated with good tidings, heaven, God, and life. In Macbeth, both dark and light are both used as
symbols and signs that something good or bad is about to happen. The use of dark and light begins in

Macbeth asked his wife, What is the night? and Lady Macbeth responds with Almost at odds with
morning, which is which. (3.4.125 126) The conversation between Macbeth and his wife discuss the
fight between day and night and that night is slowly but surely conquering the day. Lady Macbeth say
the two are at odds, which affirms the constant battles between good and evil. This goes back to when
Ross said that night was strangling the sun and that the evils of night are taking over. By this time in
the play, almost every character known to be good was either killed or converted to the darkness. In
Act 4, Duncan s son Malcolm returns and says, Angels are bright still, though the brightest star fell
(4.3.24). Malcolm compares Macbeth to Lucifer or Satan in this line, because Macbeth was the King s
top apprentice and was always loyal to him. The events that have happened throughout the play show
that, like Lucifer, Macbeth has fallen into the hands of evil and turned away from his good and
powerful leader. Malcolm says that the angels are still bright, possibly because he still has hope that

Rabbit Proof Fence Sexism Essay
The film Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce displayed the deep rooted racism and sexism
of the Australian government during the 30s. As someone who didn t know much about how
Australian aboriginals were treated at this point I was both unsettled and rudely awakened while
viewing this film. There were many scenes in this film that I had difficulty watching due to their
emotional intensity. I found this most with the scene where the girls were taken from their home and
family.
I couldn t imagine what it must be like to the in the place of the girls, being torn away from the only
place they knew, and being dragged to a racist reform school filled with complete strangers who they
had to be compliant to. I felt that the actors all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This woman was working as a servant for a white family, showing that the bright future that was being
promised to these aboriginal children was very likely false. There was a part where this woman
begged the girls to not leave, for fear that the man she worked for would come to her room in an
attempt to sleep with her. I found that this scene displayed the sexism that was imbedded in the current
society and in the reform schools. These schools where putting young children in a situation where
they were learning do purely what they are told, to be subservient. This would have been especially
problematic for young girls and women, as the subservience they were taught put them in situations
where they would be taken advantage of and not be able to do anything for fear of retaliation from a
superior. At a few points in the film Mr. Neville talks about how he s only trying to help these
children, and how people need to be helped even if they re resistant, because you re just keeping them
safe from themselves. I find this to be a really screwed up mentality as Mr. Neville wasn t helping
them at all. He was ripping them away for their families so they could learn how to cook, clean, and
be submissive for white

HIIT has become popular because an exercise program can be easily developed and tailored towards
individuals of any fitness level and there are many benefits. Previous studies have shown evidence and

Understand The Difference Between Wealthy And Poor...
Typically, us Americans categorize neighborhoods we see into two categories, which are wealthy and
poor neighborhoods. After observing families income in wealthy neighborhoods compared to poor
neighborhoods, they are drastically distinctive. Most families who have great amounts of money
generally live in a large house, while those who are classified as poor will be found in some unsafe
areas. These homes have different builds, exteriors may be maintained or may be filled with clutter,
and the families inside these homes may express different wants than the opposite class.
Unfortunately, wealthy and poor people both fall under a stereotype. The rich are looked upon as
snobby and prude, while the poor are seen as lacking intelligence or they could abuse drugs and
alcohol. However, I observed a wealthy and a poor neighborhood in the city of ... Show more content

When You Have Already Mastered You Will Never Grow Analysis

room to grow in life and people always need to push themselves to the next level. Even once someone

mastered this, you don t need to go any further ;however, many people think that once they ve reached

Legion Inappropriate For Children
Before a film is released, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) sets strict guidelines for
the rating of the film, thoroughly reviewed to make sure that it is appropriate for the intended
audience. Depending on the severity of the content, the film is rated. Descriptions are listed about why
the film received a particular rating. With these ratings in place, one can easier decide if they wish to
view the film. These ratings help parents know what their children are watching. Parents often exert
this right when approving what their children watch. Parents often do not wish for their children to be
exposed to violence, sexual themes, pervasive language, drug and alcohol use, or terrifying images or
themes. For those reasons, children are not allowed to watch movies of the horror genre. The movie
Legion is one such movie. Due to the overwhelming depictions of violence, challenging and

Descriptive Essay About Identity
Nothing in a Name Molly, dinner time! my mother yells in a sing songy voice from the first floor. My
father calls the waitress over, Excuse me, Molly he states, trying to get her attention. The doorbell
rings, and I answer it, Hi, I m Molly says the cheerful little girl scout standing at my doorstep. Names
are universal identifers; they shed no light about one s personality. They are labels, they fail to display
our identity because identity is a unique part of what makes you, you. Names are a terrible way to
understand someone s identity because names are regularly replicated. In my sixth grade class, there
were three Mollys. We all had different backgrounds, different religious affiliations, and different
personalities. If our names displayed who we are, wouldn t our identities all be the same? Instead of
staring at names and trying to understand their meaning, one should focus on a person s personality,
for personality depicts our identity. In fact, I have learned from experience to not infer one s identity
based on their name. For instance, in middle school, I was mutual friends with a girl named Kassidy.
One Tuesday afternoon, my friend, Katy told me that Kassidy was going to sit with us at lunch that
day. I shrugged my shoulders and replied with a casual okay . Before Kassidy walked in, I had a

A Comprehensive Assessment Of Economic Inequality And...
Martin Gilens provides a comprehensive assessment of the economic inequality and political power in
America. He explores on how the affluence of politicians influences the political setting of the
country. According to the author, political equality is considered as the philosophy of democracy. Due
to the inequalities that exist among the citizens regarding information, social and political affairs, it
would be impractical to anticipate equal influence over policy making. Nature and the degree of
representative inequalities depict the extent of democracy in a particular society. The author points out
that when the inequalities in the political influence intensify, democracy shifts into oligarchy, whereby
the wealthy few rule the society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article pinpoints the fact that it is difficult to disentangle the personal preferences of the
Congressional members from influences that could affect their behaviors in decision making. There is
no reliable technique of measuring the personal preferences of the representatives that are unaffected
by the demands presented by their constituents. Various scholars who have analyzed this scenario have
made efforts to assess the roles that are played by individual preferences through identifying some
individual characteristics that are related to the interests and preferences of the representative. For
instance, the personal wealth of the member might be linked with their economic policy preferences,
and the use of tobacco by the member may be linked to their tobacco legislation preferences.
Gilens also carried research on the professional histories of the representatives before their entrance to
the Congress. Unlike the previous assessment that the author had carried out about the economic
status, he found out that the histories of the members are related to their Congressional voting records.
Gilens also finds significant differences between the representatives and most of the conformist
professions. The author attributes the differences to the types of districts or the states that the authors
were elected from instead of any independent influence of their professional backgrounds. The article

The Merchant s Tale Analysis
Love is amazing. It is difficult to find but once it is found, love can be the most amazing thing to have.
In the 1400 s it was rare to find a noble wedding that was filled with love. People that were unhappy
or uncomfortable in their relationships were more likely to have cheated on their spouse or deceive
them to get what they want. In the Merchant s Tale of Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, an
older knight named January order s to find a very young wife. January finds a beautiful young woman
named May, who soon becomes his wife, despite her not being in love with him. May then falls in
love with one of the knight s squires, Damian. They send notes to each other and keep their love a
secret as best as they can. Damian and May finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chaucer also demonstrates acts similar to these in many of his other tales within this novel. In the
Miller s Tale Alison and a young male student trick her husband into believing that a flood is going to
hit, and then sneak out to be together while her husband is in hiding. The two create an elaborate plan
to fill each other s sexual needs and desires. The Wife of Bath s Prologue involves stories the Wife of
Bath s tells of her deceiving her husbands to get what she wants whether it be money, power or beauty,
she lies and bribes her husbands into doing things for her. It is also significant that Chaucer decides to
name the characters in this tale January and May . A relationship when one spouse is significantly
older than the other is called a May December relationship. It is somewhat humorous that he names
his characters these names because it foreshadows that this will be a relationship where one is
significantly older than the other. The age difference was a very significant part of this tale. The age
difference between May and January, is why May was unsatisfied, which led her to cheat on him and
then lie to January about the affair. The Merchant s Tale argues that unsatisfied women will play their
spouse to get what satisfies

Michael Phelps s Flawed Olympian
Olympian. Who comes to mind when you think of that word? Michael Phelps is a name that is

Or an alcoholic with a flawed past? Michael Phelps like most other humans has had his ups and his
downs but with an exceptional amount of up. He is the most decorated Olympian. Ever. With his 23
gold medals, 3 silver and 2 bronze Michael Phelps can proudly stand on the podium head held high to
represent his country as the most decorated Olympian ever. It was not always this way though. Phelps

The Magic in Magical Realism
While reading the stories Death Constant Beyond Love and And of Clay We Are Created I found
myself glued to the text. The both of them had such great detail and it kept you wanting to read more
and more. These stories really exemplify the use of Magical Realism. What is Magical Realism?
Magical Realism is reality mixed with a touch of non reality. This really draws you in and makes you
feel like part of the story that is in front of you. By utilizing the technique of magical realism, authors
like Marquez and Allende are able to transform, what was a simple realist story, into something much
more powerful, which makes it more interesting and exciting to read.
Death Constant Beyond Love is a story that was written in 1970, by Gabriel García Márquez. The
story is about a dying Senator Onesimo Sanchez, who diagnosed by doctors only had six (6) months
and eleven (11) days to live. Despite having a timetable for the rest of his life Senator Sanchez
continued to live a normal life keeping his illness a secret from everybody. As he continued to
campaign in Rosal Del Virrey a town that had been stricken with poverty, he promised them more than
they could ever imagine. In this town that he campaigned in for years resided a man by the name of
Nelson Farina, a man who had asked for a false identity card many times before and was rejected by
the Senator. However, this time he decided not to

My Experience As An Educator
Reflecting over this semester I have come to the realization the more time I have had teaching has
made me as an educator, more prepared for each and everyday. When I think back to last year and
compare how prepared and confident I felt, there is no comparison where I stand today. Within this
semester, I have grown immensely as an educator from taking on new roles from having a K state
education student observe with me for 40 hours, to presenting at the state KSDE conference, and to
many more adventures in which I have yet to experience. Even though it has only been a semester, I
feel this year is flying by and I am constantly reflecting on last year s experiences and changing this
years experience for the better.
When comparing my experiences from last year as a new educator I have realized this year I am more
prepared and ready to get started each and every day. For example, all of my lessons were well
thought out and prepared for each and every class period. When creating and deciding what lessons I
wanted to teach to my students I planed out my first semester of classes during the summer, which has
made me prepared for this this school year. I also feel my classroom management skills have
improved as well, since this year I have more experience under my belt and I am constantly reflecting
if I am managing my classes with the best skills possible. I also am constantly collaborating with other
teachers for feedback on areas of improvement, which has really pushed me to be

Data Collection Method
Research is defined as the organized and thorough analysis that is intended to answer questions about
nursing phenomena (LoBiondo Wood Haber, 2014). There are several different data collection
methods that are used when one is doing research design. For this discussion post I will choose a type
of data collection method and describe a scenario when it would be useful, as well as potential pitfalls
of the method. The observation method is a process of gathering data on how people act under certain
circumstances. This includes collecting data on verbal and non verbal communication, behavior, and
conditions of the environment. This is a great method to use when collecting information on different
cultures. I work on an ambulatory surgical unit and I believe this method would be useful within my
unit because we do admit patients who do not speak English from time to time. This method would
allow us to observe how non English speaking patients and their families communicate verbally, as
well as non verbally. We could study their body language and how they act with each other and the
healthcare team members. One of the downfalls to this kind of method in regards to how I would use
it on my unit, is that it would be hard to realize what the patient and family members are
communicating to one another, unless there was an interpreter present. In conclusion, there are many
different data collection methods that are used for research. Many arguments in ... Show more content

In this world we are constantly being categorized by our race and ethnicity, and for many people it s
hard to look beyond that. Even though in the past many stood up for equality and to stop racism and
discrimination, it still occurs. In this nation of freedom and equality, there are still many people who
believe that their race is superior to others. These beliefs are the ones that destroy our nation and affect
the lives of many. The people affected are not limited by their age group, sex, social status, or by their
education level. Their beliefs can cause them to attack other groups verbally or in silence and even

These racist groups take advantage especially of the illegal Latino population in doing these things,
because they believe they have no rights due to their illegal status here in the United States. Also these
groups know that many of these Hispanics will not go to police to report these incidents of
discrimination and abuse, because they are fearful that in doing so they might get deported. They also
discriminate the legal Latinos, because in their eyes they are the same as the illegal ones. The article
also portrays the horrific actions of discrimination racist extremist do against Latinos. Eviatar reports
the examples of the abuse by stating, a young mother was arrested and jailed when she asked to be
paid for her work in a Tennessee cheese factory; a migrant bean picker whose life savings were
confiscated by police during a traffic stop, and a rapist in Georgia going unpunished because his 13
year old victim is undocumented (par 3). The hate they feel towards this minority group, cause them to
commit acts that are unjustifiable. They inflict pain and psychological suffering to Hispanics. This
behavior is the cause racism, that as you see can harm to other ethnicities at a great level. Racialism
also comes to play in this case, because these groups believe that they are biologically superior to
Hispanics and other ethnicities and races as well. Our race does not make us superior to others, yet
they still believe in that it does. Enculturation

Descriptive Essay About Scrabble
It is a sunday afternoon full of immense heat. My dreary husband and I are about to begin a game of
scrabble. Such a bore, yet it is the only thing we can think of to do in the boring afternoon.
My husband seems to have a pained look on his face. The kind of look that makes it seem my very
presence in this room aggravates him. Maybe it is the heat, maybe he is just having a bad day. Little

board. We begin our game. I draw out my letters and place them on my rack. I have some decent

anguish passes over his face and he slumps back down in his chair, seemingly defeated. Suddenly I

which was IGNORE. My husband is rearranging his letters furiously. It seems he is really looking for

letter down, there is an almost ear shattering bang that comes from our air conditioner as it fails once

The Relationship between Oliver Twist and the Industrial...
Ernst Fischer, a renowned Austrian artist of the 19th century once said that, In a decaying society, art,
if it is truthful, must also reflect decay. And unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art
must show the world as changeable. And help to change it for the better. Over the many years since
the publishing of Charles Dickens s Oliver Twist in 1838, many have come to know it as not only art
but also as an account of the social and economic problems of the industrial revolution. Along with his
other works, he would eventually inspire others to put an end to child labour, one the most horrific
examples of human exploitation that went on in the industrial revolution. Oliver Twist addresses three

This passage praises the purity and health of the rural environment and claims outright that even a
lifelong city dweller has in his blood a chance to better himself and society as a whole.
Who can describe the pleasure and delight, the peace of mind and soft tranquility, the sickly boy felt in
the balmy air and among the green hills and rich woods of an inland village! Who can tell how scenes
of peace and quietude sink into the minds of pain worn dwellers in close and noisy places, and carry
their own freshness deep into their jaded hearts! Men who have lived in crowded, pent up streets,
through lives of toil, and who have never wished for change men to whom custom has indeed been
second nature, and who have come almost to love each brick and stone that formed the narrow
boundaries of their daily walks even they, with the hand of death upon them, have been known to
yearn at last for one short glimpse of Nature s face, and, carried far from the scenes of their old pains
and pleasures, have seemed to pass at once into a new state of being.
Dickens goes on to note that, in the country, even the poor people are neat and clean. The immorality
and starvation that characterize urban poverty are not present in rural England. Although this maybe a
product of wishful thinking and the ideals of a utopian society, it does show the reader a sense of hope
for the future.

Testimonies from children who have experienced sexual assault can mean the difference between
guilty and not guilty verdicts for the defendant. Often times child victims are psychologically and
even physically harmed jeopardizing their statements during the trial. There are a number of reasons
for children to be unable to give full accounts of what has occurred to them. For the purpose of
protecting child victims and making sure they are heard the courts have implemented innovations that

The Effect of Hearsay Witness Age in a Child Sexual assault case from the journal Psychology, Public
Policy, and Law, authors Jonathan M. Golding, Mary C Alexander, and Terri L. Stewart discuss how
jurors view hearsay witnesses and if the age of the hearsay witness effects their perception of the
credibility of hearsay witness. A study was done with male and female participants, who read a
fictional court case summary about a sexual assault. The court case summary involved a 7, 16, or 25
year old hearsay witness testifying on behalf of a 6 or 15 year old victim. (Golding, Alexander,
Stewart, 1999) The case included the testimony of one primary witness, a hearsay witness, or a
clinical psychologist. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) The authors begin by explaining the
purpose of child hearsay testimonies and when hearsay witnesses are permitted, a child s words are
hearsay if (a) the child s words were intended by the child to describe something that happened, (b)
the child s words were spoken prior to the court proceeding at which the words are repeated by
someone who heard the child speak, and (c) the child s words are offered in court to prove that what
the child said actually happened. (Golding, Alexander, Stewart, 1999) hearsay isn t always permitted
in order to keep the trail from becoming unfair. The authors discuss different studies that have been
done on hearsay testimonies and whether these studies have shown hearsay to be reliable and
warranted. One study that is described ended with jurors believing the hearsay witness just as much as
the victim testifying on her own behalf, the reasons for this, as the article explains, is the mock jurors
may have seen the hearsay witness as a surrogate who is simply retelling the child s story (Golding,
Alexander, Stewart, 1999) second jurors may feel the need to punish someone because sexual assault
is seen as such a horrible crime, third the hearsay

Raymond Carver s So Much Water So Close To Home
Known for his Dirty Realism writing style (Rundle, 2007), Raymond Carver wrote about the
tribulations of the American Working Class. In his short story, So Much Water So Close To Home
(1975), Claire s husband, Stuart, and his three friends go on a fishing trip, only to discover the body of
a young woman floating in the river shortly after arriving. Instead of contacting the authorities
immediately they continue to fish beside the body until some two days later. Carver examines what
men owe women and what the living owe the dead (Byrnes, 2006). Director Ray Lawrence and his
screenwriter Beatrix Christian attempt to develop these themes further in their 2006 Australian
adaptation, Jindabyne. While there have been many alterations to the narrative, the film still closely
revolves around Carver s concept of responsibility. Although both Carver and Lawrence have explored
societal and moral issues, Jindabyne s more modern observations may further develop the
representation of gender and culture and, more importantly, preserve the intricate ethical pillars of
Carver s short.
So Much Water So Close To Home very closely looks at the innate polarity in men and women s
reactions when faced with both pain and pleasure, and it is this separation in behaviour that drives
both versions of the narrative. As Claire narrates the short story, Carver creates a bias in its telling. She
explicitly implies that every action of the men is inherently and intentionally evil. With Claire s

Lovely Bones Analysis
Imagine having dreams, aspirations, goals, and hopes for yourself and the people around you, but then
having it all taken away. Imagine being a young adult and having to find a way to cope with this while
being lost in the in between. Imagine watching your family struggle, yet you are on the sidelines,
unable to help. This is a especially so in The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. The story follows the
protagonist, Susie, who was raped and murdered by her neighbour. She goes to heaven and watches
her family grow up without her. Her death sends a shock to her family and friends; some taking the
news easily, others having a harder time. Susie experiences several key moments of realization that

family suffer without her, and finally finding a way to reach her own happiness and moulding her own
path.

The Dictators Discover Sport By John Dewey
PHIL 2020H Take Home Exam
John Dewey was an American philosopher, psychologist, professor, and an activist in several social
movements. Dewey influenced almost all branches of philosophy, and he is regarded as one of the
20th Century s premier philosophers. One of Dewey s primary field of study was his work in
education, he focused on a child centered democratic approach to schooling and believed in
interdisciplinary ideas, valued student input, and recognized the importance of a forward thinking
teacher.
Dewey has a particularly interesting understanding of what defines freedom. It is necessary
beforehand to understand his idea of social control in an educating environment. Dewey believes that
the teacher should be a member of the group, but function as a coach or a referee by teaching students
how to interact with each other and form a community. Sometimes, however, this would imply that
teachers need to take away the student s temporary freedom as a sacrifice to give them the overall

by creating a safe environment for training events conducted at the KSRTI. Our major training events
bring together Soldiers from across the nation without a common organizational safety attitude, and
thus present a unique risk. We must aggressively attack this issue at all levels within the Regiment and
all leaders must understand that safety is incorporated in our culture.

Arrowsmith Sparknotes
Arrowsmith is a classic American novel written by Sinclair
Lewis. Lewis wrote this book in the early 1900 s as a current outlook on the world of science in that
time. The main theme it focuses on is commercialism and its effect on science. During this time period
there were many advances in the field of medicine; everyone was racing to find the cure to deadly
diseases and then patent it and profit off it. Helping humanity was more of a business than a service to
the human race as doctors and institutes became more and more capitalistic. Like a business trying to
maximize its profit, many doctors and scientists cut corners and guessed at many things so they could
get their products or methods on the market as fast as possible. However, ... Show more content on

His classmates mock Martin for his choice in idol, because they see Gottlieb as somewhat of a failure
in life, simply because he is poor and not very high standing or recognized in society, which is
actually what Gottlieb prefers to be. A few of Martin s classmates that have a significant effect on his
life are Ira Hinkley, Angus Duer, and Clif Clawson. Ira Hinkley is a humanitarian, self righteous
reverend who later becomes a missionary in the West Indies. He is studying medicine for the purpose
of helping humanity and gaining glory for himself along the way. Angus Duer is a social climber who
is studying science more for the sake of obtaining the inherent respect held for doctors and scientists.
He does all the methods and techniques with a cold precision but only because he was told to do them,
not because he wants to understand why things are the way they are. Clif Clawson is completely
centered on making money and being successful.
He went into medical school solely because he would be able to make a lot of money being a doctor or
physician.
The university essentially teaches students how to make money from their knowledge through
commercialism, even more than the actual medical science itself. The following passage is part of a
lesson that Dr. Roscoe Geake, who is a professor in the university, gives to his students.

A Trip to the Genetic Counselor
Part 1 Pedigree Construction
Greg and Olga were both a little worried. Starting a family presented choices and responsibilities far
more long reaching and complex than anything either of them had encountered before, and sitting here

had two children, neither of whom showed any sign of any disease. Their boy is still single but their
girl got married, to a normal man, and had a son, who has hemophilia A.
Meeting with the Genetic Counselor
Good afternoon said the woman rising to greet them, I m Dr. Ciletti. It s good to finally meet you in
person.
Nice to finally put a face to the voice. I m Greg and this is my wife Olga.
Nice to meet you, Olga said, taking a seat across the desk from Dr. Ciletti. This whole having kids
thing is more nerve wracking when you really start to think about it.
You re doing exactly the right thing. There is no sense in worrying about things unless you have to.
Maybe I can set your mind at ease a little bit. To begin with, I know that you re both concerned about
factor viii deficiency and myotonic dystrophy because of the family history. Is there anything else that
you d like to know?
Well, began Olga, the fact that we both have these diseases in our family and there is a chance that we
could pass them on to our children has opened our eyes a little bit, but we d also like to know if you
can predict other diseases that don t run in our family. Like my best

Essay On Homelessness In The United States
Homelessness in the United States
During the 1980 s the number of homeless people, those without a house in which to reside, increased
at an alarming rate. Many analysts have given much time and thought as to the reasons that this
phenomenon occurred. They cite economic instability and government policies with facts and figures
to support their work. Beyond the research and cold statistics that explain this event, are the victims,
and those that worked to help relieve their hardship. An interview with Philip Guerrieri gives us
insight into the personal lives of these individuals whom he calls houseless, and the realities of staying
alive, both physically and spiritually, on the streets.

Philip Guerrieri, born in 1962, in Ft. Worth, Texas, was twenty four years old in 1986 when he began
working as an Emergency Psychiatric Response Care Division agent in liaison with the District of

personal realities that these individuals were experiencing to learn how to best serve them, he at
present has taken time off to assimilate the many profound interactions that have served him by
broadening his perceptions of life and death. He is currently attending East Tennessee State

an individual case history of just one man and the series of tragic events that left him houseless in
D.C. during the late 1980 s. He gave me a personal interview on November 27, 1999.
Philip shares with me his personal experiences working with the individuals who found themselves
living on the streets during the years of 1986 1996. He explains why eventually he dealt solely with
those individuals who would not go in to the missions and shelters or even accept food from the
mobile soup wagons. Philip relives the moment that he first realized that houseless people were not in
their current situation because of a life misled or because they were lazy or criminal, as may be the

The Crying Game By Neil Jordan And Loaded By Christos...
¡§Texts both inform us of the social identities available to us, and problematize them; both police our
social selves and subvert them.¡¨
Both texts, The Crying Game by Neil Jordan and Loaded by Christos Tsiolkas, use
characters within the discourse to project social identities that have been
problematized due to social constraints. Throughout this essay, I will focus on
sexuality, as this type of social identity has been depicted as a central theme in both
texts. The characters from the texts work to, police and subvert their own sexual
identities within their social milieu.
¡§To claim an identity as a homosexual is to claim a place in a system of social
regulation¡¨ (Connell amp; Dowsett, 1992). I would firstly like ... Show more content on

attraction is towards real men and masculinity, ¡§ Every time I look at a gay man, even
if I think he¡¦s attractive, I can¡¦t forget he¡¦s a faggot. I get off on real men,

In contrast, the character of Dil in The Crying Game, was portrayed as a transvestite.
Dil is a man that functions in society as a woman. To encourage Dil¡¦s sexual identity
as female, the film failed to reveal Dil as a transvestite until the latter half of the film,
and lead the audience to believe the she was a woman.
Sexual identities have been problematized due to social constraints. Deconstructionist
theories have given motive as to why such sexual identities have been seen as

considered the social norm and any identities varying from this norm would be
considered abnormal thus experiencing unjustness. Foucault debates that, ¡§the social

This is exemplified by Fuery amp; Mansfield by stating that in society we generalise, in

Sylvia Plath was one of the most renowned writers in the twentieth century, creating many pieces of
works that forever changed the world of literature. Two of the most eminent literary works by Plath
are Tulip and Bell Jar. Tulip is a poem that follows the emotional journey of a depressed women as her
mental state deteriorates in the hospital. A different form of literature Plath wrote is are novels; and
one of her representative novels is Bell Jar, which tells the story of a young women s descent to
mental illness and her struggles of trying to find her identity as she sees a distorted version of the
world. Both literature pieces explore the theme of isolation and suffering through a variety of elements

Chile Tariffs
Tariffs in Chile
From 1930 through 1960 the Chilean economy was highly protected with import and export quotas,
import permits, tariffs, noninterest bearing import deposits and multiple exchange rates imposed by
the government. The Central Bank negotiated, with each importer, which exchange rate to apply to
each transaction. Moreover, imports included only intermediate and capital goods and a few essential
consumer goods. Guidelines to approve products from other countries were followed and several
goods were prohibited for importation. Because of this situation, there were three attempts to
eliminate tariffs and all restrictions. By 1974, changes started taking place. Trade liberalization

The Trans Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement, also named P4 or TPP, is a trade

since 2006. It was designed to liberalize trade between the economies of the Asia Pacific region.
However, since 2010 negotiations have taken place to expand the original trade union to incorporate
eight other countries including Mexico, USA, Canada and Australia. Chile s economy has benefit from
trading with countries in the TPP. In 2012, almost $16 billion of Chile s overall $79 billion worth
exports went to TPP countries. At the same time, Chile imported $25 billion in return. Since 2003,
Chile s trade with TPP nations has grown by 16% each year.
Chile and USA entered into the U.S. Chile Free Trade Agreements on January 1, 2004. This agreement
eliminates tariffs and open markets, reduces barriers for trade in services, provides protection for
intellectual property, ensures regulatory transparency, guarantees nondiscrimination in the trade of
digital products, commits both parties to maintain competition laws that prohibit anticompetitive
business conduct and requires effective labor and environmental enforcement. Through duty
elimination, the agreement allows U.S. textile and apparel exporters to

Examples Of Who Is Responsible For The Tragedy Of Macbeth
Paige Davis
Mrs. Walker
English IV
15 February 2017
My Wife Made Me Do It Shakespeare s great play The Tragedy of Macbeth, is thought to be published
in the early 1600 s. It gives detail to the demise of Scotland s great (or not so great) kings, and leaves
every reader with the classic question, Who did it? . Macbeth was clearly driven by something when
making all of his choices. Rather that something was the witches, his wife, or simply his own
ambition, there is a reason for his decisions. Which leads back to the question, Who is responsible for
the tragedy of Macbeth? The first option is that the witches are the cause of Macbeth s rise and fall.
The witches provide the possibility that they are the reason for the tragedy. The witches are a huge
supernatural element of the play, which can promote the theme of fate. If it was fate that Macbeth was
to kill Duncan, and eventually Banquo, then it is true, that all great Neptune s ocean could not wash
this blood clean from [his] hand (2.2.58 59). If this is the case, Macbeth had no chance at having clean
hands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Macbeth is that little red devil on his shoulder saying do it! , but Macbeth does take a share of the
responsibility, because he listens to

this essay I will first explain and describe the Pearl Harbor attack. I will do that in the perspective of a
male veteran who at the time was stationed at Pearl Harbor as a U.S. Navy cadet describing the events
of that topic to a news anchor for a local newspaper. I also explain what happened after the attack and
explain if there was any possible way to prevent it. Next, I will transition to playing the role of the

(Pearl Harbor Film) We were at a disadvantage because the Japanese had destroyed many of many of
our battle ships. But we were not going to let that stop us. We were not going to give up, just fight
until the end. After two hours of fighting long and hard the damaged was done and the Japanese
retreated. In the end we were left with 2,042 casualties and 1,247 wounded (Wikipedia) and defeated.
NEWS ANCHOR: Mr. Hankins can you please describe what happened after the attack was over?
NAVY VETERAN: Exactly one day after the attack the military had regained somewhat of a control
over Pearl Harbor. We were already close to freeing soldiers stuck in turned over ships and wrecked
vessels and had the island surrounded by barbed wire. After a couple of days the a sense of normalcy
returned to Pearl Harbor but mainly everyone was a little paranoid about the unexpected and what
could happen at any moment. The U.S. was also very angry that they had been defeated and wanted
revenge. In no time congress formally declared War on Japan. This war was known as World War
Two. It is writing down in history as one of the most deadly wars of all times. This time the U.S.
proved there would be no chance in hell they would be defeated again. The U.S. invaded Japan and
showed no mercy, attacking them with all their might. The Japanese were

Roman Arena
During the study abroad trip to Italy, I had the opportunity of visiting another city, Verona. One of the
first stops that were made as a class was the Arena. Not only is the Arena the best preserved Roman
monument in Verona, but it was built in the first century AD. The reason behind this cultural
monument being a favorite was due to the way it was not broken down and once I stepped foot into
the center of the arena, I felt as if I had become apart of what took place years ago within it. Even
though the arena is well preserved, a few changes had been made to the center in order for it to keep
up with modern day culture. The name, Arena, originated from its central arena that was covered in
sand. This famous arena held many gladiator fights when it was first built and now, to keep in touch
with the modern day shows that are held in colesseums, operas are hosted. A fun fact about the arena
is it was originally built outside of the city walls. It was built in that location to make it easier for
people from outside of the city to find it. However, an additional reason for the location was due to the
crowded people throwing riots and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Identification of Green Fluorescence Protein Tagged...
Introduction:
Information is passed between neurons and muscles through the release of neurotransmitters. These
neurotransmitters are stored in synaptic vesicles in synapses. But before they can dock at a synapse, a
motor transport known as kinesin moves the synaptic vesicles along microtubules to their final
destination in the cell. This process is known as vesicle transport.
The purpose of these experiments were to gain a better understanding of the movement of vesicles
along microtubules and the importance of this in proper nerve transmission. This was accomplished by
analyzing the phenotypes of three different strains of Caenorhabditis elegans using microscopy and a
fluorescence microscope. The organisms contained fluorescence tags on the membranes of their
synaptic vesicles to make it easier to see how the mutations affected the vesicles locations.
Wild type C. elegans should be actively moving in an s shape pattern under a microscope. Under a
fluorescence microscope, the tags should appear at the nerve ring and along the nerve cords. In the C.
elegans with a fusion defect, its movement would appear impaired and the fluorescence tags would be
more concentrated at the nerve ring. Lastly, a C. elegans with a transport defect would also have
impaired movement, but the fluorescence tag would be dispersed in patches along the length of the
entire worm.
Results:
Observation of phenotypic appearance was taken using a dissecting microscope at 50x magnification

Honey Bear Research Paper
Honeybees are very important to our food supply because they pollinate our plants and help them

going to need and so the plant is able to produce more. Without bees helping our food grow we would
be very short on food supply. Some things that could be harming the bees are bears because bees like
to live where they can be left alone and where they think that they are safe but in the woods there are
bears bad bears really like honey and they normally destroy the hive and leave the bees homeless.

  • 2. Golden Age Of Equality As the bullet pierced Harrison s heart, the audience froze while thinking if their society was truly equal. The movie 2081 gives us a fresh new meaning of equality. The society forces people s talents to be equal, so no one would have an advantage. This includes their strength, intelligence, and beauty. The society would call it the Golden Age of Equality however Harrison would disagree with that statement. 2081 and the real society can be very different on how they treat the extraordinary and their meaning for handicap, while at the same time they can both be similar like how they both have punishments and there s a type of police force to keep citizens safe. Although 2081 is a completely different society and is considered a dystopia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A very unusual and new concept that 2081 uses is that they try conceal people s intelligence, strength, and beauty while while the real world wants you to improve or express those qualities. In the beginning of 2081, its states, The strong wore weights to make them weaker; the intelligent wore earpieces that kept them from taking unfair advantage of their brains, Even the beautiful, sometimes wore masks in situations where their beauty might simply be too distracting. This explains how the society in 2081 brings down the intelligent, the strong, and the beautiful, preventing them to reveal any of those qualities. However, the real world rewards all of the things that the government in 2081 tries to hide. For example, in a high school graduation the school would give recognition to the valedictorian, which encourages students to do better in academics. While in 2081, they would not honor or give recognition the intelligent, instead they would try to make them more unwise, so no one would see the person s real capabilities. The real society would never attempt to make a student more unwise like how the society in 2081 would. Our school system encourages for improvement on test scores or grades, and not disprovement. In 2081, the society has a different perspective of a handicapped person from the real world. The real world views a handicap person as someone with a disadvantage while in 2081 they view it as someone who has an advantage. In 2081, Harrison was considered, handicap even though he was a genius and strong. However, this is different to the real society because a handicap person today, would be someone with a physical or mental problem such as someone who can barely walk. This shows, that a handicapped person from 2081 would have the exact opposite skills as a handicap person in the real society. The society of 2081 would label a weak old man ... Due to the fact that so many illnesses (e.g. diabetes, high cholesterol) are related to the effects of obesity, understanding the physiology of weight loss has become ever so important. One of the most popular and widely researched diets, which are used for the treatment of obesity, is the ketogenic diet. This diet is not only known for its use in the treatment of obesity, but is also known to play a positive role in the treatment of several illnesses. Initially, this diet was solely used for treating people with epilepsy. However, starting from the 1970s, the diet became known for its role in promoting weight loss and also in the treatment of other illnesses (e.g. cardiovascular disease). Comparing the Emplementation and Scrutinizing of Proposed Bills in the House of Commons and Congress This essay will examine how two institutions, namely the House of Commons and Congress, which are supposed to serve the same process, differ widely in the way they implement and scrutinise proposed bills. The essay will examine the relationship between the legislature and the executive; the importance of the party; and the constitutional arrangements which give each legislature very different characteristics. The French philosopher Montesquieu said that there could be no democracy unless the three branches of government, legislature, judiciary and executive, were separate bodies, which acted as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A $1.7 trillion annual budget and congressional decentralization through the committee system allows lawmakers to specialize and make decisions on a wide range of complex topics. This is very different to the House of Commons (HoC), which has a much smaller budget and a less rigorous committee system. The rigorous nature of the Congressional committee system (CCS) could be seen as advantageous since it allows detailed legislation on potentially complex topics to be written. However, the composition of the committee may not be unbiased, and once the legislation has been drafted it must be ratified by the rest of Congress. Since the CCS is so important to the USlegislative process the membership of the committees requires careful consideration. The composition, range of interests, and the scope of their policies are determined by the members. If a committee were full of like minded people that were not socially representative of the people the policies concern, then it is feasible for the democratic process to be undermined. Furthermore, the quality of the resulting bill is highly dependent on the ability of the committee members. To counter these potentially negative influences the bill must be ratified by Congress once it leaves the Committee phase. With 535 members of Congress it can be very ... • 5. MOM Up Review MOM UP is a delightful broad comedy. The concept for MOM UP is a lot of fun and delivers a strong, eccentric, and very colorful protagonist in Roxy Holliday. Even her name is fun. The goal is clear and the stakes are personal. The script is driven by themes about growing up, learning to move forward, and appreciating who you are. There s no doubt that the highlight of this script is Roxy. She s amusing to watch. She s clearly flawed, controlling and reckless, but there s something very charming about her. She really has a good heart, but she makes the wrong decisions for the right reasons. As much as one really adores Roxy, the script would benefit from more development. It s the structure and pace that are worthy of discussion. Basically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One has to understand a bit better what her life was like growing up with Roxy. She needs to learn to appreciate Roxy s eccentric, free spirit behavior. Amanda works well as the uptight woman and at the end make sure she learns to be a bit more reckless, as Roxy becomes more mature. As mentioned, however, the relationship between her and Bo isn t well understood. Right now, none of the supporting characters standout, with the exception of Kiley. She s likable and she has the opportunity to even verbalize some wisdom to Roxy. However, there s really no need for both Kiley and Alex. They have similar type roles, so consider combining. Richard doesn t feel essential or understood. Ernesto never really engages. Rusty has strong potential, but feels underused. The dialogue is sharp and reveals information about the characters. Roxy s voice is very consistent with her personality. Amanda s voice sounds uptight, which is also congruent with her personality. There s nice subtext we all eventually become our mother. Make sure to pay this off. The script is professionally presented. However, be careful in the narrative of asking too many questions, as this can be distracting and the audience can t see these questions or comments. There s no need to repeat BFF. Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, by Michael Pollan, is about one man s journey through the food production system and how he arrives at the conclusion that although hunting and gathering may be an excellent means to keep oneself healthy, it is really up to the individual as to what they are willing to put in their body. Pollan begins section 1 ( Industrial Corn ) by analyzing how far the practice of shopping for groceries at the supermarket has taken modern society from the natural environment the food is (presumably) gathered from. He cites the florescent lighting, comparing it to the less harsh rays of the sun. From here, Pollan relates the story of a corn farmer from Iowa, George Naylor, to expound upon the impact ... • 7. Essay on A Storm of Emotion in Kate Chopin s The Storm The Storm of Emotion Usually a storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. In The Storm, Kate Chopin develops a parallel between a rainstorm and an emotional storm in a woman s life. Chopin uses symbolism to depict the feelings of relationships that are as unpredictable as that of a raging storm. In the time frame that this story is set, many major life decisions things are made taking into account one s duty to family including the selection of a husband or wife. It is possible that each of these couples may not have been in love, when their vows were stated. They have a duty to society; they must not marry outside of their social class. When Alcee rides up at the beginning of the storm Calixta gathers her husband s Sunday clothes in order to remember her sense of duty and loyalty to her husband. Respecting social graces, Alcee tries to stay outside, but the storm drives him into the house. Inside Calixta s home Alcee can see into her dim and mysterious bedroom, this foreshadows the forbidden relationship that takes place. As the storm intensifies so does the physical relationship between these twomarried people. The incessant lightening is the nagging desire between this man and woman. As the storm begins to fade and the thunder to growl from a distance, these two lovers are reminded of their forbidden love (668). The glistening green of the world is the happiness of a fulfilled and closed relationship that allows life to continue (668). It is interesting how Ms. Chopin uses the thunderstorm to parallel with theintensity of the relationship between Alcee and Calixta. Ms. Chopin creatively parallels the development of the thunderstorm to that of the physical development between Calixta and Alcee. In the beginning, the rain slowly begins to fall as the emotions between the two past loves are starting to rekindle. Then, as the storm proceeds to intensify, Alcee is forced inside the house, alone with the woman of his desire. When the lightening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Analysis Of August Strindberg s Play Miss Julie To set up the tone, content, and structure of this sociological analysis of August Strindberg s play Miss Julie, the following two quotes will be compared and contrasted. One from German economist, philosopher, and promenade socialist, Karl Marx and another from author, actor, and theatrical theorist, Jeremy Rockwood. The first quote comes to us from Marx s Manifesto of the Communist Party, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles, (Lermert 43). The second from Rockwood s book The Craftsmen of Dionysus: An Approach to Acting, An exact duplication of real life is not the purpose of the theatre nor of any art. Following this he pulls out a bottle of wine referring to it as pure. He will only indulge in the rituals the class he strives to be apart of does as a symbolic way of removing himself from his won social standings (Strindberg 3). Marx s quote is commenting on the class conflict he observed across world cultures. He attributed social stratification, where oppressors put constant pressure on their oppressed, as the source of conflict. Stratification is present in all social structures on various gradations and exists on both the large and small sides of the scale. Within the general overarching classifications, gradation continues to narrow the social position of people further. Example, in parts of Europe during the middle ages the system in place was the Feudal System, the king had the most power and agency, while the peasants had the least, in between were nobles and knights. Inside of each of these groups existed further classifications, within the peasants category there existed merchants, farmers, craftsmen, serfs, etc.. These smaller titles all held a different levels of respect, power, and agency. Rockwood was commenting on the intent of naturalism and realism in the theatre. The most effective purpose, he proposes, is that they are meant to resemble but heighten real life, never actually replicating it. The job of an artist is to take their observations ... • 9. Use Of Dark And Light In Macbeth The tragedy of Macbeth tells a tale of a man s ambition for power and rise to it. Many scholars consider Macbeth to be Shakespeare s darkest work. Shakespeare is known for his use of imagery, similes, and metaphors in his work. Dark and light, a strong motif in the tragedy of Macbeth, is often used not only in literature, but in everyday life to contrast good and evil. People often associate darkness and dark things with evil and death, while the opposite applies to light. Light is most often associated with good tidings, heaven, God, and life. In Macbeth, both dark and light are both used as symbols and signs that something good or bad is about to happen. The use of dark and light begins in Act 1 when King Duncan announces that Malcolm is the heir to his throne and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (3.4.125 126) The conversation between Macbeth and his wife discuss the fight between day and night and that night is slowly but surely conquering the day. Lady Macbeth say the two are at odds, which affirms the constant battles between good and evil. This goes back to when Ross said that night was strangling the sun and that the evils of night are taking over. By this time in the play, almost every character known to be good was either killed or converted to the darkness. In Act 4, Duncan s son Malcolm returns and says, Angels are bright still, though the brightest star fell (4.3.24). Malcolm compares Macbeth to Lucifer or Satan in this line, because Macbeth was the King s top apprentice and was always loyal to him. The events that have happened throughout the play show that, like Lucifer, Macbeth has fallen into the hands of evil and turned away from his good and powerful leader. As someone who didn t know much about how Australian aboriginals were treated at this point I was both unsettled and rudely awakened while viewing this film. There were many scenes in this film that I had difficulty watching due to their emotional intensity. I found this most with the scene where the girls were taken from their home and family. There was a part where this woman begged the girls to not leave, for fear that the man she worked for would come to her room in an attempt to sleep with her. I found that this scene displayed the sexism that was imbedded in the current society and in the reform schools. These schools where putting young children in a situation where they were learning do purely what they are told, to be subservient. This would have been especially problematic for young girls and women, as the subservience they were taught put them in situations where they would be taken advantage of and not be able to do anything for fear of retaliation from a superior. At a few points in the film Mr. Neville talks about how he s only trying to help these children, and how people need to be helped even if they re resistant, because you re just keeping them safe from themselves. These homes have different builds, exteriors may be maintained or may be filled with clutter, and the families inside these homes may express different wants than the opposite class. Legion Inappropriate For Children Before a film is released, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) sets strict guidelines for the rating of the film, thoroughly reviewed to make sure that it is appropriate for the intended audience. Depending on the severity of the content, the film is rated. Descriptions are listed about why the film received a particular rating. With these ratings in place, one can easier decide if they wish to view the film. These ratings help parents know what their children are watching. Parents often exert this right when approving what their children watch. Parents often do not wish for their children to be exposed to violence, sexual themes, pervasive language, drug and alcohol use, or terrifying images or themes. For those reasons, children are not allowed to watch movies of the horror genre. The movie Legion is one such movie. • 18. Descriptive Essay About Identity Nothing in a Name Molly, dinner time! my mother yells in a sing songy voice from the first floor. My father calls the waitress over, Excuse me, Molly he states, trying to get her attention. The doorbell rings, and I answer it, Hi, I m Molly says the cheerful little girl scout standing at my doorstep. Names are universal identifers; they shed no light about one s personality. They are labels, they fail to display our identity because identity is a unique part of what makes you, you. Names are a terrible way to understand someone s identity because names are regularly replicated. In my sixth grade class, there were three Mollys. We all had different backgrounds, different religious affiliations, and different personalities. If our names displayed who we are, wouldn t our identities all be the same? Instead of staring at names and trying to understand their meaning, one should focus on a person s personality, for personality depicts our identity. In fact, I have learned from experience to not infer one s identity based on their name. For instance, in middle school, I was mutual friends with a girl named Kassidy. One Tuesday afternoon, my friend, Katy told me that Kassidy was going to sit with us at lunch that day. I shrugged my shoulders and replied with a casual okay . Before Kassidy walked in, I had a whole image of her in my mind: blonde hair, cute pastel colored clothes, and religious, all stereotypes that I thought a person with an innocent name like Kassidy ... Due to the inequalities that exist among the citizens regarding information, social and political affairs, it would be impractical to anticipate equal influence over policy making. There is no reliable technique of measuring the personal preferences of the representatives that are unaffected by the demands presented by their constituents. Various scholars who have analyzed this scenario have made efforts to assess the roles that are played by individual preferences through identifying some individual characteristics that are related to the interests and preferences of the representative. For instance, the personal wealth of the member might be linked with their economic policy preferences, and the use of tobacco by the member may be linked to their tobacco legislation preferences. Gilens also carried research on the professional histories of the representatives before their entrance to the Congress. Unlike the previous assessment that the author had carried out about the economic status, he found out that the histories of the members are related to their Congressional voting records. There are several different data collection methods that are used when one is doing research design. For this discussion post I will choose a type of data collection method and describe a scenario when it would be useful, as well as potential pitfalls of the method. The observation method is a process of gathering data on how people act under certain circumstances. This includes collecting data on verbal and non verbal communication, behavior, and conditions of the environment. This is a great method to use when collecting information on different cultures. I work on an ambulatory surgical unit and I believe this method would be useful within my unit because we do admit patients who do not speak English from time to time. A study was done with male and female participants, who read a fictional court case summary about a sexual assault. The court case summary involved a 7, 16, or 25 year old hearsay witness testifying on behalf of a 6 or 15 year old victim. Instead of contacting the authorities immediately they continue to fish beside the body until some two days later. Carver examines what men owe women and what the living owe the dead (Byrnes, 2006). Director Ray Lawrence and his screenwriter Beatrix Christian attempt to develop these themes further in their 2006 Australian adaptation, Jindabyne. While there have been many alterations to the narrative, the film still closely revolves around Carver s concept of responsibility. Although both Carver and Lawrence have explored societal and moral issues, Jindabyne s more modern observations may further develop the representation of gender and culture and, more importantly, preserve the intricate ethical pillars of Carver s short. So Much Water So Close To Home very closely looks at the innate polarity in men and women s reactions when faced with both pain and pleasure, and it is this separation in behaviour that drives both versions of the narrative. • 37. The Dictators Discover Sport By John Dewey PHIL 2020H Take Home Exam John Dewey was an American philosopher, psychologist, professor, and an activist in several social movements. Dewey influenced almost all branches of philosophy, and he is regarded as one of the 20th Century s premier philosophers. One of Dewey s primary field of study was his work in education, he focused on a child centered democratic approach to schooling and believed in interdisciplinary ideas, valued student input, and recognized the importance of a forward thinking teacher. Dewey has a particularly interesting understanding of what defines freedom. It is necessary beforehand to understand his idea of social control in an educating environment. Dewey believes that the teacher should be a member of the group, but function as a coach or a referee by teaching students how to interact with each other and form a community. • 39. Arrowsmith Sparknotes Arrowsmith is a classic American novel written by Sinclair Lewis. Lewis wrote this book in the early 1900 s as a current outlook on the world of science in that time. The main theme it focuses on is commercialism and its effect on science. During this time period there were many advances in the field of medicine; everyone was racing to find the cure to deadly diseases and then patent it and profit off it. Helping humanity was more of a business than a service to the human race as doctors and institutes became more and more capitalistic. Like a business trying to maximize its profit, many doctors and scientists cut corners and guessed at many things so they could get their products or methods on the market as fast as possible. Ira Hinkley is a humanitarian, self righteous reverend who later becomes a missionary in the West Indies. Angus Duer is a social climber who is studying science more for the sake of obtaining the inherent respect held for doctors and scientists. Clif Clawson is completely centered on making money and being successful. He went into medical school solely because he would be able to make a lot of money being a doctor or physician. Examples Of Who Is Responsible For The Tragedy Of Macbeth Paige Davis Mrs. Walker English IV 15 February 2017 My Wife Made Me Do It Shakespeare s great play The Tragedy of Macbeth, is thought to be published in the early 1600 s. It gives detail to the demise of Scotland s great (or not so great) kings, and leaves every reader with the classic question, Who did it? . Macbeth was clearly driven by something when making all of his choices. Rather that something was the witches, his wife, or simply his own ambition, there is a reason for his decisions. Which leads back to the question, Who is responsible for the tragedy of Macbeth? The first option is that the witches are the cause of Macbeth s rise and fall. The witches provide the possibility that they are the reason for the tragedy. The witches are a huge supernatural element of the play, which can promote the theme of fate. If it was fate that Macbeth was to kill Duncan, and eventually Banquo, then it is true, that all great Neptune s ocean could not wash this blood clean from [his] hand (2.2.58 59). • 51. The Identification of Green Fluorescence Protein Tagged... Introduction: Information is passed between neurons and muscles through the release of neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are stored in synaptic vesicles in synapses. But before they can dock at a synapse, a motor transport known as kinesin moves the synaptic vesicles along microtubules to their final destination in the cell. This process is known as vesicle transport. The purpose of these experiments were to gain a better understanding of the movement of vesicles along microtubules and the importance of this in proper nerve transmission. This was accomplished by analyzing the phenotypes of three different strains of Caenorhabditis elegans using microscopy and a fluorescence microscope. The organisms contained fluorescence tags on the membranes of their synaptic vesicles to make it easier to see how the mutations affected the vesicles locations. Wild type C. elegans should be actively moving in an s shape pattern under a microscope. Under a fluorescence microscope, the tags should appear at the nerve ring and along the nerve cords. In the C. elegans with a fusion defect, its movement would appear impaired and the fluorescence tags would be more concentrated at the nerve ring. Lastly, a C. elegans with a transport defect would also have impaired movement, but the fluorescence tag would be dispersed in patches along the length of the entire worm. Results: Observation of phenotypic appearance was taken using a dissecting microscope at 50x magnification and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
