information. However, the use of Internet sources and materials that support instruction often
requires users to have more advanced knowledge and understanding. Online access has become the
central focus on students habit. Gillam and Wooden (2013) stated that educators need to create high
functioning learning communities in an otherwise disembodied online learning space (p.24). Inan,

Cathay Williams born in Independence Missouri to a freed African American male and a Slaved
African American women. In 1861 Union forces occupied Jefferson City in the early stages of the
American Civil War. At that time, captured slaves were officially designated by the Union as
contraband, and many were forced to serve in the military support as cooks, laundresses, or nurses.
At age seventeen, Cathay was impressed into serving the 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment,
commanded by Colonel William Plummer Benton. For the next few years, Williams travelled with
the 8th Indiana, accompanying the soldiers on their marches through Arkansas, Louisiana,

proceeds to the discovery phase, where both parties are gathering information that is relevant to the
case from each other or outside sources. This information is collected through written questions,
document requests, and depositions. Discovery is the most lengthy phase of civil litigation,
contingent on the specific issues, the bulk of discovery to be administered, and the availability and
trial date to be set by the court. Once at the trial, both parties have opportunities to produce
