A Case Study of Heat Treatment on AISI 1020 Steel
Proper heat treatment of steels is one of the most important factors in determining how they will
perform in service. Engineering materials, mostly steel, are heat treated under controlled sequence of
heating and cooling to alter their physical and mechanical properties to meet desired engineering
applications. In this study we have chosen AISI 1020 steel as for our research work and we have tried to
find out the mechanical properties (hardness) and micro structural properties (martensite formation,
carbon self-locking region) by means of appropriate heat treatment process (annealing, normalizing &
hardening). Here the steel specimens were heat treated in a furnace at different temperature levels and
soaking time; and then cooled in various media (air, ash, water). After that the hardness of the specimens
were rechecked for the comparison with previous data and the microstructures of the specimens were
examined using metallurgical microscope equipped with camera. These results showed that the hardness
of AISI 1020 steel can be changed and improved by different heat treatments for a particular application.
From the microstructures we have found that the annealed specimens with mainly ferrite structure give the
lowest hardness value and highest ductility while hardened specimens which comprise martensite give
the highest hardness value and lowest ductility. On the other hand, normalized specimens have given the
moderate hardness and ductility comparing with hardened and annealed specimens

The Ductility or percentage elongation will also be analyzed with increase or decrease in temperature for both pure & alloy copper. This document provides a summary of a project report on nitrogen pickup in steel produced through the electric arc furnace (EAF) route. It finds that nitrogen pickup occurs from charge materials like scrap, direct reduced iron, and hot metal. Increased use of DRI lumps and fines is correlated with higher nitrogen levels in the steel bath. However, use of a charge containing more scrap, DRI fines, and hot metal results in lower nitrogen levels, likely due to faster formation of carbon monoxide bubbles that help remove nitrogen. Nitrogen pickup also occurs during tapping of the steel from the furnace into the ladle. Maintaining a protective slag layer can help reduce this additional nitrogen pickup.

In fact, copper alloys become stronger and more ductile as the temperature goes down, retaining excellent impact resistance to 20 K (-253 C or -424 F). On high temperatures the properties of pure copper and alloy copper are to be analyzed at a temperature range from room temperature to about 550oC. The depreciation in Strain Hardening Exponent `n`, strengthening coefficient `A`, yield and ultimate strength for both pure copper and alloy copper has to be observed with rise in temperature. The Ductility or percentage elongation will also be analyzed with increase or decrease in temperature for both pure & alloy copper. The characteristic equation for both of the tested materials will be developed, which can be used to check the effect of temperature on copper and its alloys. Advanced control scheme of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine us...
This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.

precisely delineate tumor boundaries from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
scans holds profound implications for diagnosis. This study presents an ensemble convolutional neural network (CNN) with transfer learning, integrating
the state-of-the-art Deeplabv3+ architecture with the ResNet18 backbone. The
model is rigorously trained and evaluated, exhibiting remarkable performance
metrics, including an impressive global accuracy of 99.286%, a high-class accuracy of 82.191%, a mean intersection over union (IoU) of 79.900%, a weighted
IoU of 98.620%, and a Boundary F1 (BF) score of 83.303%. Notably, a detailed comparative analysis with existing methods showcases the superiority of
our proposed model. These findings underscore the model’s competence in precise brain tumor localization, underscoring its potential to revolutionize medical
image analysis and enhance healthcare outcomes. This research paves the way
for future exploration and optimization of advanced CNN models in medical
imaging, emphasizing addressing false positives and resource efficiency.
