Worship Based On The Sermon On The Mount
Introduction:
What Is Worship?
The words used for worship in the Bible show that worship is something done to show respect and reverence to or honor towards one who is greater than oneself (Acts 24:14; Philippians 3:3; Romans 14:11-12).
Worship Term used to refer to the act or action associated with attributing honor, reverence, or worth to that which is considered to be divine by religious adherents. Christian worship is often defined as the ascription of worth or honor to the triune God. Worship is more fully understood as an interrelation between divine action and human response: worship is the human response to the self-revelation of the triune God. This includes: 1) divine initiation in which God reveals himself, His purposes, and His will; 2) a spiritual and personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ on the part of the worshiper; and 3) a response by the worshiper of adoration, humility, submission, and obedience to God. (Holman Illustrated Pocket Bible Dictionary, pg. 382).
Why Worship God?
The bible reveals about Christianity in the book of Acts that it is “the way,” nine times (Acts 9:2; 16:17; 18:25-26; 19:9; 19:23; 22:4; 24:14; 24:22). The Bible shows that following Christ is the way of life which a person should live in order to receive a home in heaven and an abundant life (John 10:10; 14:6; Matthew 7:21; 17:5). There is no other way than Jesus (1 Corinthians 3:11), Jesus is the only one through whom we can and must be saved (Acts 4:10-12; John 6:68). This Christian way (course or path) is the comprehensive way of life a person should go because the New Testament Bible which is the Word of Christ declares for us the full scope of God’s instruction saying, “as divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” (2 Peter 1:3). These things are just a good start to get us thinking, so what other reasons can we supply that will help us understand that we should worship God?
Because It Is A Requirement:
It’s commanded. Matthew 4:10
