we can learn from the only one whose
epitaph reads “a man after God’s own heart”.

3. •One of the greatest battles of all time. 1 Sam.17
•Notice the giant of Gath.
•9.5 feet tall
•His helmet and armor weigh 272 pounds
•Spear like a weavers beam about 40 pounds
•He looked intimidating! 1 Samuel 17:4-10
•The “Giant” of Bethlehem - David.
•David did not care what his brother said, his faith
was giant and he took courage rather than cower
at the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:28-31, 37-52

4. •Saul tried many times to kill David.
•But David showed his men the right example
by not taking revenge. 1 Samuel 24:1-7
•We today must forgive and forego injuries.
•Our response when tempted: bless, do good,
pray for… Matthew 5:11, 44; 1 Cor. 10:13
•Return good for evil… Romans 12:17-21

5. •David requested supplies from Nabal and he
rudely denied. 1 Samuel 25:14-35
•David’s anger provoked him to kill Nabal…13
•Abigail swayed David from slaying Nabal, and
saved David from something that would have
scarred his life. When conflict comes, be wise!
•David controlled his anger with Saul but not
with Nabal. Proverbs 16:32
•Pride robs us of many things:God Ps. 10:4,
honor Prov. 11:2, and peace Prov.13:10

6. •The giant of his own lust! 2 Sam. 11-12
•He saw Bathsheba, then lusted and much
more… James 1:12-16
•Nathan’s message convicted David of his sin.
•The mirror of truth that Nathan presented was a
spiritual sword that ran straight through David’s
heart. He admitted his guilt. 2 Sam. 12:13
•The righteous will repent of their error and seek
forgiveness. Ps. 32:5; Acts 8:18-24; 1 Jn. 1:9

7. •He showed us to keep our faith in God as he
did from a young age and led to his victory
over the giant of Gath.
•He taught us to consider God’s time and way
as with Nabal and Saul.
•We learn that the proper wisdom is everything
as he listened to wisdom in his anger and sin.
•We must do what needs done and forego
revenge and to do good/righteousness.
