- The Story Augusto and Michaela Odone were a fine pair. Their son Lorenzo was born in 1978. At the age of 6 he was diagnosed with ALD(adreno-leuko-dystrophy). ALD a rare disease affects about 1 in 20,000. No information was available at the time of diagnosis let alone treatment. Patients of ALD are usually 4-10 years old boys. They gradually become mute, deaf, unable to move, blind and die within two to three years. What can or do we do in such a situation? We can cry, sympathise, wish it never happened, ignore it. And keep on going in this cycle. May be in a different way than mentioned or whatever. Or venture for a solution. Michaela and Augusto refused to accept the situation. Without any medical background but with some help they invented Lorenzo’s Oil that delays the disease’s onset. The oil is being used effectively in asymptomatic patients and trialed clinically for fully understanding the effects. Lorenzo died in 2008 at an age of 30 years, 22 years more than his parents were told initially. Augusto believes that the treatment was responsible for giving Lorenzo many extra years of life. Michaela and Augusto founded The Myelin Project, an international research organisation. What a fine pair!!! What an Endeavour!!! Lorenzo’s Oil, the 1992 movie is the story of the Odones. We have a chance to do very little as compared to their endeavour and yet we are ignoring it. Let’s focus on the opportunity that is knocking our doors and windows again and again. - There are three participants in this effort. You, WCG and Researchers. Researchers require computations(image processing, simulations, quantum mechanics) for their research projects. The amount of computations is very huge and the requirements are very high. Fulfillment of the requirements by scientists or institutions alone is infeasible. You as a PC owner know that your CPU is not used all the time and not to its full potential i.e. you have surplus computing power. This surplus power can be used for the research projects. This is the idea. WCG servers are the mediators between you and researchers. Researchers upload the apps and data required for doing computations. You download it, perform the computations and upload the results. Researchers use the results and this way the research is completed. Lets see what type of research is going on.

- Large Task = 9hrs CPU time The client chooses tasks according to resources available at your device. Aborts tasks if any problem occurs. Suspends uploads if internet connectivity is unavailable and uploads when connected. 60,60 means WCG will start working only when total CPU usage due to programs other than wcg is less than 60% and wcg will at most take 60% CPU time. You can customise working hours and days of WCG. With 40, 40 my CPU fan remains silent.
