Paintings were one of the main ways to represent reality before the invention of photography. Sculptures also helped represent humans in Greek and Egyptian art. During the Renaissance, paintings showed humans as the center of the world. Leonardo Da Vinci was renowned for his paintings like the Mona Lisa and Vitruvian Man. Various painting styles through history helped express what people saw and wanted to document. Eventually, photography replaced paintings as the preferred medium because it became cheaper and more accessible to the masses.
