2. INTRODUCTION
• This is a comprehensive Prestored giving the details of 1-month internship.
• Undergoes at Public Works Department (Roads & Buildings) a government organization
located at Jammu.
• The internship commenced in the month of April.
• The Internship was mainly focused on the construction on the construction of double
storeyed school building at High School, Channi Rama, Jammu.
3. PLAN AND LAYOUT OF BUILDING
Plan of ground floor Plan of first floor
4. CONSTRUCTION WORKS TO BE DONE
• It is a double storey construction and is a framed structure.
• The construction consists of the following:
1. Three Class Rooms
2. One Science Lab
3. One Examination Hall
4. Boundary Wall
5. RCC Septic Tank
6. Sanitary fitting items
7. Electrification
8. Tile work of ground floor
6. WORK DONE IN THE MONTH OF MAY
• During this month of our internship we came across the following works:
I. Installation of columns of first floor including their shuttering, concreting, casting and
curing
II. Scaffolding work for the slab of first floor
III. Shuttering of slab and beams
IV. Reinforcement work of slab
V. Concreting of slab
VI. Compaction of slab concrete
VII.Curing of slab
VIII.Brick masonry work at the ground floor started
7. SHUTTERING AND SCAFFOLDINGOF COLUMNS AND
SLAB
• After the curing of the slab of ground
floor, shuttering of beams and
columns was done
• Size of shuttering plates was 8 x 4 feet
and was made of plywood
• After the casting and curing of
columns using M20 grade concrete
proper installation of scaffolding for
the slab of first floor was done
• The shuttering of the slab was done
right after this.

8. REINFORCEMENT WORK IN SLAB
• The bars were tied together
using the binding wires which
were of dia 0.16 to 2 mm
• Cranks were also provided to
counter act the negative
bending moment at the edges.
• The slope of crank is 1:10 &
minimum length of crank
is 300 mm
9. CONCRETING IN SLAB
• At our site the process of concreting was done
manually.
• The grade of concrete used was M20 which
has a ratio of 1:1.5:3
• Tilting type of concrete mixer was used for
making the nominal mix and concrete pans
were used to carry the concrete by the labor
• The monkey crane was used to carry the
concrete from the concrete mixer to the top of
first floor
10. COMPACTION OF CONCRETE IN SLAB
• At our site the compaction was done by the
vibration method using a needle type
vibrator
• Needle vibrator is used for the compaction
of concrete in congested reinforcement.
• Compaction is very necessary for removal
of voids and preventing cracks
• It increases significantly the ultimate
strength of concrete and enhances the bond
with reinforcement.
11. BRICK MASONRY AT GROUNDFLOOR
• Brick work is a masonry construction work using bricks and
mortar.
• The brick masonry work at our site was started at the ground
floor of the building
• The bricks used were first class bricks with dimensions 190 mm
x 90 mm x 90 mm without mortar
• Typesof bonds in brick masonry wall construction are classified
based on laying and bonding style of bricks in walls.
• At our site English bond was used.
• English bond in brick masonry has one course of stretcher only
and a course of header above it, i.e. it has two alternating
courses of stretchers and headers. Headers are laid centered on
the stretchers in course below and each alternate row is
vertically aligned.

12. CONCLUSION
• Throughout the course of this month’s industrial training, we came
across a lot of practical implementations regarding the core engineering
subjects. The whole process of reinforcement of slab its concreting
casting and curing is now fully understood. In addition we also learned
about the brick masonry work and the bonds used in walls. Thus, we can
say that we learned a lot about the construction, design, and drawing of a
building.
