The document analyzes differences and similarities between older and modern car advertisements. Some key differences identified are more simplistic modern ads with larger images of just the car and use of websites. However, the analysis found that ad language hasn't changed dramatically over 50 years. While modern ads were expected to have minimal writing, the Ford ad analyzed had more words than expected. In conclusion, ads have evolved mostly due to technology growth, but language similarities remain surprising.

!
I
DO
WORDS
Who am I?
I’m someone who’s happiest working with words. And I love stories. I believe a good story
lives—it can transcend boundaries—but the telling different every time.
Whatever the medium, I enjoy crafting words so they work with images or design to create a
lasting impact.
How do I work?
I can concept and deliver original copy, write fresh (executional) copy for concepts that are
already in place, or edit and re-write texts.
I work client-side (directly with companies, brands and organisations), as well as agency-side
(creative, digital, design etc.).
I’m used to working remotely and on-site.
I always deliver. And I always deliver on time.
So long as I’m working with words, I’m happy.
2. Lucy Crystal M: WordsonWords@mac.com T: +31 6 197 88 233
But what kind of writer are you?
Think of me like a hard-working character actor: I change my voice to suit the role. I find
words that work.
Agency side
The client has given your big idea the green light and now you need to create that website,
write that brochure, edit that book—in short, you need content. I’m a great person to have
around at the executional stage. From creative content to functional copy, my experience
includes everything from arty initiatives to brand activations and large corporate projects. And
I like to work with other copywriters too: I’m totally happy helping to refine and check over
copy that’s almost ready to roll, or helping to make sure your client presentations are good to
go.
Client side
I can help you bring a particular marketing strategy or product to life. I relish the chance to
tell the tale that is there to be told, and i’ll tell it in the way that best suits your audience or
target market. I work directly with a number of clients, both large and small, so I'm well-versed
in managing all kinds of budgets and timelines. I'm used to handling vast amounts of material
and capable of finding out what’s really needed in order to do the best job possible. I’m also
comfortable liaising with your creative agencies to help them with the words they need.
Projects large or small - any stage
Be it the beginning, middle, or end of a project, I’m used to jumping in at short notice and
getting things done. And I’m always happy to be part of a team.
Samples
A web site is, ‘in progress’. If there's anything on the CV you'd like to see a sample of, or
know more about, please do just ask.
The same goes for references: if you'd like one, or want to hear from someone in particular,
I’ll put you in touch, or source a reference for you.

A special case: Nikon Europe
I’ve been working directly with Nikon Europe since 2005. That’s a long time and my role has grown
steadily over the years. Today I’m responsible for creating copy across various media for all DSLR,
Nikon 1, KeyMission, Nikon Premium Compact, and NIKKOR product lines (I do not create copy for
Sport Optics or COOLPIX) for Europe / Global usage.
Deliverables include digital and web-based product copy, digital campaign pages, press releases,
various printed brochures, select micro sites, POS and trade marketing materials, and copy for Nikon’s
e-commerce site.
That’s the short story.
If you’d like to know a little more . . .
For NIkon Europe, all the content has to be translated into 27+ language locals. Naturally, this throws up
a specific set of challenges when it comes to writing. Other challenges come from the need to work
ahead of main print and TV agencies when it comes to timelines, yet stay in line with them when it
comes to the direction being taken for any one product launch. We all work from the same marketing
brief, and the copy i provide (in the form of a Source Copy document) is used by all other agencies,
either directly for their deliverables or as inspiration.
One of the highlights of recent years was the chance to create a brochure and microsite from scratch for
the launch of Nikon 1. Typically, brochures come from the head office in Tokyo and are adapted. For
Nikon 1, the European office was allowed to create its own materials. Working from very little product
information at the time, we set the tone and created the (European) voice for Nikon’s first mirrorless
camera. In the end, the brochure was so well received that other countries around the world used it. We
continued to create Nikon 1 brochures in the years that followed, and recently that changed to a Buying
Guide that is regularly updated.
Each launch is a lot of work and as of 2012, I don’t always work alone. If needed, a senior copywriting
partner (who i recruited and worked up to speed over the period of a couple of launches) joins me, and I
work with a trusted proofreader. Final responsibility for the quality of work remains with me.
After all these years, there’s a vast number of work examples i could show you! The easiest thing to do
is to go to NIkon’s main website and surf around the DSLR / Nikon 1 / Premium Compact / KeyMission /
NIKKOR product and press release pages, or go to the ‘Download a brochure’ section’ and look at
Nikon 1 brochures or Buying Guide, or the DSLR movie brochure or Buying Guide (some other DSLR
brochures are adapted by me using text from head office, but not all). Examples of press releases or
other deliverables are available upon request (either as screen shots, downloaded files, or as scans of
printed materials)
