• The film the Dark Knight was released in July
  2008 and is the ninth movie to be apart of the
  Batman movie series. It is said to be the most
  successful of all of the series and it appealed
  to a very wide target audience. I am going to
  be talking about how they made the film go
  out to its target audience by how they
  promoted it using advertising and distribution
  channels.
• The internet was used to promote the
  release of the Dark Knight. They released
  internet campaigns such as the ‘ Why so
  serious’ and ‘ The joker’ campaign which
  were online scavenger hunts where fans
  could unlock teaser trailers and unseen
  photos of the new film before its release.
  This helped promote to the young ,old and
  die hard batman fans. This was great for the
  promotion of the film as created the so

• Viral marketing played a very important role in the advertisement of the
  Dark Knight, 42 entertainment released a website called
  whysoseriuos.com which sent fans on a hunt to unlock the secret trailer
  and photos from the film. They then changed the hunt to make fans take
  pictures of certain locations in the cities to unlock a photos and audio clip
  from the unreleased movie. People could also post pictures of themselves
  as the joker in order to receive a fictional copy of the Gotham times where
  they sent people onto further websites.
• Burger king linked up with the dark night
  campaign and use the products they sold
        Merchandise Advertisement
  to promote the film. They would use
  things such as giving toys that where
  related to the film away with food that
  came on the kids menu , they also made
  adverts for their food with customers
  doing bad things with the quote “Bring out
  your dark side” .

• Warner brothers also released official
  merchandise for the film on their
  website, this included things such as
  phone cases and cups all the way to the

• Before the release of the
  Dark knight posters
  giving information about
  the film were released .
  In total there where 24
  posters realised but
  many where the same
  versions that had been
  made to look vandalized
  by the joker.
