Innovation Plan: Economic empowerment of Women in Kirinyaga County, Kenya

Female foeticide is the act of aborting a fetus because it is female. It is still practiced today in India due to reasons like poverty, gender discrimination, lack of education, and traditional practices. This has led to an adverse sex ratio in India, with only 944 girls for every 1000 boys. The shortage of women does not increase their value but places greater restrictions on them. It could also lead to increased trafficking of women. Saving the girl child is important as women are precious assets who care, teach, bless, rule, explore, and struggle. Putting an end to female foeticide requires raising awareness against this injustice.

Women’s voice and participation in decision-making is essential not only for true democracies to flourish but also for women to ensure that decisions made in households and at the highest levels of government benefit rather than harm them. Persistent inequalities– including economic, social, cultural, and political, prevent women’s full and meaningful participation in policy making, development programmes and implementation.
Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) is rooted in movement building. Through FPAR women collect evidence about what is happening in their communities, and they act on it – together. When they do this, they create a movement. When they do this over and over again, alongside women from many countries, movements make waves.
FPAR shakes power relations in our daily lives and society. It ensures research is done by and for women (this is not the norm!). With good research and documented evidence, women challenge rights violations and gendered power imbalances. FPAR is a potent tool for enabling women to take control of development agendas and programmes that are affecting their lives, and that for the most part are developed without their input.

03 N Phaswana Mafuya Perceptions Of Sugar Mommy Practices
This study explored perceptions of sugar mommy relationships in South Africa through focus groups. There were mixed views on whether these relationships occur and their acceptability. Some saw them as acceptable if due to love, while others saw issues with lack of ethics or promoting youth exploitation. Reasons older women engage in these relationships included sexual fulfillment, domination, procreation, stress relief, and physical attraction to youth. Younger men's reasons included material gain, stress relief, being enticed, rejection by peers, peer influence, beliefs that older women are purer, and that they provide tender loving care and maturity. The study aimed to understand these relationships and perspectives on their occurrence and acceptability.
