This document discusses migraine prevalence and diagnosis in women. A large international study found that 76% of patients presenting to primary care physicians with headaches had migraines. Migraines are more common in women, peaking between ages 20-50 when 25% of women are affected. Factors like menstruation, oral contraceptives, pregnancy, menopause, and hormone therapy can influence migraine occurrence and severity in women. Chronic daily headaches are often transformed migraines associated with overuse of headache medications.
