This document shows how to wirelessly control a V-Mixer from a PC using a D-Link DIR-655 router. The router allows the V-Mixer to connect via USB while the PC connects to the router's wireless network. Drivers must be installed on the PC to recognize the V-Mixer. Then a sharing utility establishes the connection between the V-Mixer and PC over the wireless network, allowing remote control software to operate the V-Mixer from the PC.

1. Wirelessly Control a V-Mixer
This document shows how to setup wireless
control of your V-Mixer in conjunction with the
appropriate Remote Control Software (RCS)
running on a PC. Remotely control the V-Mixer
from anywhere in the room, the stage, control
room, etc. – ideal when using a tablet PC.
In this example we are using the D-Link DIR-
655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router. See it online along with the support
resources here. We are going to show how you can directly connect
the V-Mixer to the USB port on the router and then run the RCS on your
computer wirelessly controlling the V-Mixer.
Instructions
1. If you have previously run the RCS successfully with your V-Mixer from this PC, then jump to Step 4.
2. If you have not installed the V-Mixer driver and RCS on your PC, download the driver for your version
of Windows and RCS software for your model of V-Mixer (e.g., M-400, M380) from the RSG website
here.
3. Install the driver following the instructions in the Readme_E.htm file included with the driver
package.
4. Run the RCS software ONLINE with your PC connected to the V-Mixer to confirm everything is
working correctly.
5. Exit the RCS and unplug the USB cable ensuring the V-Mixer USB port is not connected to anything.
6. Ensure the latest firmware is loaded into the DIR-655 (we used V1.33NA for this test.)
7. Setup the router the way you would normally set it up with network name (SSID), security mode,
password, etc. All the default settings should typically be fine in most cases as this is a standalone
application. Name it something meaningful such as “M-400 V-Mixer” and we recommend turning off
the visibility of the network. This way people won’t inadvertently try to connect to it thinking it may
be a valid Internet access point. Once finished, the new router will appear in your list of available
wireless access points (only if you left visibility on). Don’t connect to it yet.
8. Download and install the PC SharePort Utility located under Support Resources Additional
Downloads on the DIR-655 product page. Don’t run SharePort yet. If it starts, exit from it.
9. Disconnect from any hardwired network port or other wireless connection. Connect to the new
wireless network name you just setup (e.g., “M-400 V-Mixer).
10. Start the SharePort Utility and you should see the following window. Note yellow icon, not red. (if you
are running a Windows emulation on an Intel Mac – see supplemental note#2.)

2. 11. Now connect the V-Mixer to the USB port on the DIR-655. SharePort should report as follows with the
appropriate V-Mixer model.
Click the blue CONNECT button at the bottom to establish a connection to the V-Mixer. If you want a
connection to subsequently happen automatically then click on the “Properties” icon at the bottom
and then click the “Optional settings” tab. Check “Automatically connect this device…” as shown in
the screen below.

3. 13. After a connection as been established, SharePort shows a green check box saying “You are
connected” and a “New Hardware” window will open as follows. Click “No, not this time” and the Next
button.
14. Click on the “Install the software automatically” button then click Next > as shown below.

4. 15. A warning message will pop-up as follows and click “Continue Anyway”.
16. Let the driver installation continue and then hit Finish on the closing screen.
17. Once the driver is loaded the SharePort Utility should now “see” the V-Mixer as a valid device,
confirmed by the following screen.

5. 18. You can now startup your RCS and connect ONLINE to the V-Mixer as if it was connected directly to
your PC – except now you are wireless!
Supplemental Notes
1. If the V-Mixer fails to connect the first time, restart the RCS software and click ONLINE again. You can
also try disconnecting and re-connection the V-Mixer in the SharePort Utility.
2. If you are running Windows from an Intel Mac (Parallels or Fusion), confirm that your wireless
connection is not shared but “bridged” directly to the network. An example Network preference
screen from Fusion follows. If you change it, restart Windows.
3. If you want the RCS to automatically start when connecting to the V-Mixer then click on the
“Properties” icon at the bottom of the SharePort Utility and then click the “Optional settings” tab.
Check the box and complete the designated application section to point to the appropriate V-Mixer
RCS .exe file.
4. Although we have only tested the D-Link DIR-655, we have heard of other success with other routers
with similar USB ports. In theory, any router with USB sharing emulation should work as long as it is
adhering to the USB specification.
