Windows 10 introduces several new features including the return of the Start Menu, Cortana as a digital assistant, the Microsoft Edge browser, Continuum for seamless switching between tablet and laptop modes, virtual desktops, and windowed Store apps. Microsoft's strategic plan is to unite all devices under a single platform and store. Windows 10 will be offered free to home users who upgrade within one year of its July 2015 release.

6. Windows 10 Free to Home Users
• Widows 10 is free but only if you qualify,
Windows 7 and 8 consumers upgrade to Windows 10 for free,
provided they register within one year of Windows 10’s release on
29th July 2015.
OEM versions (the ones that came pre-installed when you bought
the computer) are non-transferable
Retail licensed copies can be transferred to other computers
Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise are not
included in the terms of free Windows 10 Upgrade offer unless the
business is a part of the active Software Assurance program.
Those customers will continue to have rights to upgrade to
Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer
8. Cortana – Your Digital Assistant
• Cortana is your clever new personal
digital assistant.
• Cortana will help you find things on your
PC, manage your calendar, track
packages, find files, chat with you, and
tell jokes. The more you use Cortana,
the more personalized your experience
will be.
9. Cortana – Your Digital Assistant
• Cortana supports natural language
search for files on your computer. For
example, you can ask Cortana to “find
pictures from August” or “find documents
about Windows” to find pictures from the
months of August or document files
related to Windows. Voice support is not
enabled out-of-the box.
11. Microsoft Edge – Better than Internet Explorer
• Write, type, and doodle directly on your web
page with Web Note, then share your notes
with others.
12. Microsoft Edge – Better than Internet Explorer
• Reading list
gives you a place
to save articles
or other content
you want to read
later—on the
bus, over the
weekend—
whenever you
like.
13. Microsoft Edge – Better than Internet Explorer
• When you stumble across a topic
on the web you’d like to know
more about, Cortana is your
ready and able, all-knowing guru.
Highlight a word or phrase, press
and hold (or right-click) it, then
Ask Cortana to find out all about
it.
15. Continuum – Seamless Switching from
Tablet to Laptop
• Continuum is a new, adaptive user experience offered in
Windows 10 that optimizes the look and behavior of apps
and the Windows shell for the physical form factor and
customer's usage preferences.
• Continuum is the name Microsoft has given to Windows
10's unique ability to mold to the platform on which it's
running.
• Continuum switches to touch screen mode when there is
no mouse or keyboard attached to a multipurpose device.
• Add a mouse and keyboard and continuum switches
automatically to laptop mode.
16. Virtual Desktops
• A virtual desktop is a method of extending a computer users’ workspace
beyond what’s typically shown on the screen at any given time.
• Instead of having one workspace with a taskbar and icons of operating
programs, you can have multiple desktop windows, each with its own
open software.
• You could theoretically have one desktop open and showing a 3D render
in progress, while a second desktop is dedicated to tutorials and
research on 3D rendering and a third desktop has your IM windows and
email tucked away.
• If you need to constantly switch between open applications, virtual
desktops could make your life a whole lot easier.
18. Windowed Store Apps
• Windows Store apps have been given a refreshed look.
Instead of being immediately dumped into a full-screen
style app, they will be windowed, offering a mouse-
friendly toolbar. These apps will also alter their interface
to best fit the size of the user's display.

Comparison of VM to Hyper V
<Use this slide to discuss broad justifications for choosing virtual server solutions.>
Most organizations explore virtualization for one of the following reasons:
Server consolidation – By consolidating multiple server instances on one set of hardware, efficiency is gained by more fully using the hardware.
Application Migration – Some applications do not run on newer server operating systems, creating a need for the ability to host virtual instances of legacy operating systems to run these applications.
Increase IT Agility – Provide the ability to rapidly add and move servers to respond to changing business needs.
Software Development – By saving and restoring a set of template virtual hard drives (VHD), developers can rapidly cycle through test scenarios during software development processes.
Server virtualization, also known as hardware virtualization, is a hot topic in the IT world because of the potential for serious economic benefits. Server virtualization enables multiple operating systems to run on a single physical machine as virtual machines (VMs). With server virtualization, you can consolidate workloads of underutilized server machines onto a smaller number of fully utilized machines. Fewer physical machines can lead to reduced costs through lower hardware, energy, and management overhead, plus the creation of a more dynamic IT infrastructure.
