Cotanum GmbH is proposing strategic changes to improve the efficiency of wind energy projects. Currently, projects take 12-19 months for phases I and II with significant cost overruns. This delays projects and makes investors reluctant. Cotanum aims to reduce development time by 30% and cut costs by 25% through clearer planning, structure and forecasting. Their proposal for phase I was accepted in January 2016 and they are working on a phase II proposal. They will provide updates and present phase II results in late summer 2016 to improve project parameters and Europe's clean energy future.

The Victoria Project in Sri Lanka was a large power and irrigation project costing over Rs 9000m. An evaluation found that about 30,000 people were displaced, over four times the original estimate, and the resettlement program was implemented under severe time pressure. While the dam was built on time and on budget, environmental and social issues were not adequately addressed in planning. The economic rate of return was estimated to be 8%, lower than originally projected due to lower than expected power outputs and lack of irrigation benefits. Lessons highlighted the need for more comprehensive planning, data collection, and attention to social and environmental matters in large infrastructure projects.

Senter Internationaal is a Dutch government agency that implements carbon credit programs according to EU procurement rules. It has a team called Carboncredits.nl that oversees the implementation of joint implementation and clean development mechanism projects. This team uses various baseline methodologies, including scenario analysis and dispatch analysis, to determine business-as-usual emissions levels and quantify emission reductions from projects. Dispatch analysis in particular models electricity dispatch on an hourly basis to estimate how much generation and emissions a proposed clean energy project would displace.
Chunnel project project cost management
The Chunnel Project faced significant cost overruns and delays due to poor cost management throughout its lifecycle. In the inception phase, the initial scope was poorly defined leading to scope creep. In the development phase, lack of proper cost planning and control of scope changes by the Intergovernmental Commission exacerbated costs. In the implementation phase, the use of fixed-price contracts for underground construction caused disputes and claims that increased expenses. Finally, in the closure phase, late modifications in scope delayed completion and reduced returns on investment for stakeholders. Overall, cost overruns ballooned from an initial £4.8 billion estimate to £9.5 billion due to weaknesses in cost planning and control across all project phases.

£10m MMC, Digital and Whole-Life Performance (CR&D) Programme: UK businesses can apply for a share of up to £10m for CR&D projects that go beyond the state-of-the-art in improving productivity, quality and performance of the UK construction sector.
£26m Demonstrator Programme: An investment of up to £26m is available in Demonstrator projects that demonstrate improvements in productivity, quality and performance of the UK construction sector. These will include new validations of business models, digital approaches to design, construction and management, advancements in modern methods of construction and approaches to whole-life performance of a building or assets.
