William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 and baptized there on April 26. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and had three children with her. Shakespeare had a successful career as a playwright and poet in London, writing around 38 plays. He was a shareholder and house playwright for the Lord Chamberlain's Men/King's Men acting company. Shakespeare died in Stratford in 1616 at the age of 52 and was buried there.
