This document discusses challenges with philanthropy in the UK. It argues that philanthropy faces sustained negative media coverage which deters potential donors. Philanthropists are wary of media scrutiny and criticism of their motives. Recent proposals to cap tax relief for charitable donations also discouraged philanthropy. Evidence shows UK media uses negative adjectives to describe philanthropists and questions their motives and wealth. Cultural attitudes toward the wealthy and ideas about the "undeserving rich" further contribute to negative views of philanthropy.
