Editor's Notes
- #4 The acronym VAPA stands for for Visual and Performing ARTS. We like to say the arts are Vapalicious.
- #5 The four art disciplines for Visual and Performing Arts in California are Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Media arts should be added as a fifth discipline soon.
- #8 According to state standards, the arts should be instructed by highly qualified teachers in a comprehensive and sequential manner during the regular school day. It is stated in the standards, so let's make it a reality!
- #9 Many schools do have music programs taught by music teachers starting in fourth grade, but most districts cannot afford art specialists or guest teaching artists for other grades or art forms. That is why instruction in the arts is typically the responsibility of the GENERAL CLASSROOM TEACHER.

- #13 Arts education is highly valued by most Americans A 2005 Harris Poll revealed that 93 Percent of Americans believe that the arts are vital to providing a well-rounded education. Additionally, 54 percent rated the importance of arts education a “ten” on a scale of one to ten.
- #15 So maybe the question should be why NOT study the arts? Gives you something to think about…
