Analysis Of Marble Chappe
Marble Champ by : Alessandra Bontomasi
Have you ever said to yourself I give up right away and don t even try? Well there is a saying that
is when you work hard it will pay off, and in the story Marble Champ by Gary Soto the main
character, Lupe Merdrano never stopped working hard and it lead her to a big prize at the end.
The reasons for this is that she was not good at sports first, then she practiced and practised, then it
all paid off in the future.
The first reason that hard work pays off is because in the beginning she was very bad at sports. But
the thing is she would say to herself, I will never be good at sports. The first piece of evidence is
that she can t run very fast, for example in the story Marble Champ she would try and try to get
her body to move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows
that she is not good at sports because in most sports you need to run, skate or other movements
that involve your legs, also she is not very fast when using her legs. My second piece of evidence
is that she scored a goal for the other team, when playing soccer, by her kicking it into her own
teams net. This shows that she didn t even know which net was and you need to know that to play a
sport. My third example is that she can t kick a ball in the right direction and can t kick it to well.
This says that she really once again doesn t know how to use her legs for the right purpose . Even if
she is very good at using her brain

The Menorah Is A Common And Very Sacred Symbol Dating
In Jewish religion the Menorah is a common and very sacred symbol dating back to ancient
times. The Menorah is representative of the state of Israel, as well, as the divine light and is
probably the most recognizable Jewish symbol. According to Jewish history, the Menorah was
originally a seven branched candelabra beaten out of a solid piece of gold and was one of the
sacred vessels in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Menorah is said to have stood in the
southern part of the temple and was lit daily by the temple priest using only the highest quality
fresh olive oil. The Menorah is of unique design and symbolizes the divine light. According to
Jewish history, God commanded that the Menorah s goblets be turned upside down on their
stems, emphasizing the importance of spreading light to others. This design reflects the Menorah
s exact purpose in the Holy Temple, which was to spread the light of Godliness to the entire
world. The Menorah contains a total of seven branches, six of which represent human wisdom,
guided by the center branch of Divine light. The Menorah s design and representations serve as
an inspiration of enlightenment. The Menorah is also said to be a symbol of the nation of Israel
and its mission to be a light unto the nations. It is stated the light is not a violent force and for
Israel to accomplish their mission they must set an example and refrain from violent force. Because
God supposedly dictated the creation of the Menorah from pure gold, Jewish

The United Farm Workers Association Improve The Conditions...
To what degree did the United Farm Workers Association improve the conditions of farmworkers in
California.
Introduction:
In 1910 mexicans fled from Mexico to work in agriculture in America, they labored in inhumane
conditions and the people they worked for ignored state laws on working conditions (Tavaana).
This is how the farm workers would work before the United Farm WorkersUnion came along.
They didn t have the rights they deserved, they were treated however the growers would like to
treat them because they would go around the law and do what they wanted. Farm workers didn t
have unions and the rights that they do now back in 1910. Research has been done on this topic
on how them migrating started, on how they were treated, and how it has gotten better over the
years. This topic is important because it discusses some of the history of Mexican immigrants. It
also demonstrates some challenges they went through when they came to the United States to find
work. My study of the topic is important because it will give some background information on
how the farm workers were brought and how they were treated. After I will bring in Cesar Chavez
and his contributions to helping the farm workers. Lastly I will be talking about his negative
contribution which isn t talked about that often and comparing it with the positive. My
investigation fits into broader questions in the subject because it is taking two different points of
views and comparing them to each other. I choose

Analysis Of Sayuri Nitta s Memoirs Of A Geisha
Power, prestige, personality, and a pleasing face: Chairman Ken Iwamura of the Iwamura Electric
Company has it all. Undoubtedly, such a man would attract the great admiration of many. However,
the Kyoto geisha, Sayuri Nitta, stands as an exception. She does not admire the Chairman. Instead,
she is obsessed with him, so utterly entranced by his charm as to devote her entire life to having
him become her danna. This intense love is the primary reason she transforms from a scared,
reluctant young girl, Chiyo Sakamoto, into a manipulative and seductive full fledged geisha.
Analyzing Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha through a psychoanalytical lens reveals that Sayuri
Nitta s fixation upon Chairman Iwamura emerges ultimately due to her... Show more content on

It is not with the Chairman, but instead with the manipulative owner of the Japan Coastal
Seafood Company, Tanaka Ichiro. After Sayuri s first meeting with him, in which he helps her
and compliments her beauty, she develops a pleasant thought that I [she] tried again and again
to bring into focus (16) about him. Never having felt love or affection from her own father, her
subconscious search for a paternal caretaker lands on Tanaka san, the first male adult to treat her
with affection. Later, Sayuri began to have fantasies that Mr. Tanaka would adopt me [her] (20),
proving that she considered him her legitimate father figure and desired for him to replace her
biological father. Both Sayuri s childhood psychological unfulfillment and Tanaka san s role as
her first surrogate father figure cause obsession with Chairman Iwamura. Adversity and
emotional problems encountered during early childhood play a great role in shaping later
behaviors. Sayuri s lack of love from a father figure in her youth shapes her mind s particular
susceptibility to displays of affection from older males. When the Chairman performs the simple
act of helping and complimenting her, she changed from a lost girl facing a lifetime of emptiness
to a girl with purpose in her life (113), the event greatly impacting her psyche. She is led to believe,
through her deadpan father, that men are generally uncaring, and as such

William Bradford Vs John Smith Essay
In the early 1509 s 1850 s there were two Englishmen named John Smith and William Bradford that
established in the colonies of British who came to the New World to share a common culture. These
two men wrote journals, talking about what had happened to them in the past months and what they
went through. Although they struggled and faced many challenges they did their best in order for
them to survive for example, they had starvation times and although they would starve he would do
his best. Bradford and Smith presented different accounts of the life on land and talked about an
ideal vision of what the new land could be with the best of people colonizing the new land. Both
wrote of their experience in America, were Europeans, and desired to settle the land. However, the
similarities end there while Smith roamed Virginia as a scout and a military man, Bradford planted
his church community in Plymouth. John Smith was born in January 1850 in Willough New

while Smith roamed Virginia as a scout and a military man, Bradford planted his church
community in Plymouth. Smith wrote action oriented propaganda, in a third person tall tale , in
order to establish a higher government position and bring more hard working Englishmen to the
New World. In the other hand Bradford wrote in 1st person talking about his religious reasons and
the way that he would pray for every single little thing. Captain John Smith dreams of

After twelve years of wait, the third instalment of the Bridget Jones (2001 2004) film series has
been finally released.
When Working Title Films announced its intention of making another film back in 2009, several
problems arrived with such announcement. In fact, the director of Bridesmaids and most recently
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, was reportedly going to be the director of the film. However,
creative differences arise with Working Title and he exited the project. Production was slanted to

What do all these names have in common? They are all celebrities yes, but they are also all
celebrities who have used Botox. If someone thinks of a celebrity who has had botox I m sure
that Joan Rivers would be one of the first people to come to mind. Joan Rivers is of course one
of the celebrities who is not afraid to tell the world she has had many plastic surgery and Botox

your neck to become very sore. 2. There are also some side affects that are not so common but
have been seen after the use of Botox. a. Botox can cause double vision, loss of bladder control,
and allergic reactions. b. Another side affect could be a headache. Which seems very ironic. Yet, it

health treatments. Botox is proven to be affective in patients who suffer with chronic migraines

Every country in the world have different culture value, even between individuals in a country, they
probably have different view of their culture value too. The writer realizes that we cannot judge a
culture just by our point of view. In this assignment the writer will interview Chinese culture. With
this interview, the writer aim to know how is the culture in China, and also how they see
something in their general cultural point of view. The writer also wants to compare the general
view of culture by their own people with sources that has been published in media. In this
assignment the writer will discuss about Dimension of Culture by Geert Hofstede. Geert Hofstede is
a researcher that comes from Dutch. He identified five dimensions of culture, that he labeled
individualism, masculinity, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, and long short term.
Individualism collectivism describes the social structure in that culture. Masculinity Femininity
describes two things, the assertive or nurturing, and gender differentiation. Power distance describes
the different power and influence between people. Uncertainty avoidance describes the action when
people taking a risk. Long short term explains about the time orientation of a culture, whether they
think about present or future. This interview is a great way to know how the culture in a country
is, because we ask directly to the people that come from particular country, not from resources that

Review of Paddy Whacked Essay
English, T. J. Paddy Whacked: The Untold Story of the Irish American Gangster. New York:
Regan, 2006, 442 p.p
Throughout his career T.J English has written five books and a multitude of articles for the LA
Times, The New York Times, Playboy, and a variety of other magazines and newspapers. All of
his books (The Westies, Born to Kill, Havana Nocturne, and The Savage City) and articles cover
some aspect of the criminal world, whether it be the criminal themselves, or the act that they carry
out. T.J English was awarded the New York Press Club Award for Best Crime Reporting back in
2010 and had already written two books about organized crime which shows that he is more than

Another misconception I had was that gangsters/mobsters controlled only corrupt policemen and
judges when in fact, they controlled people at all levels of the government, occasionally even the
president. Important characters like president James K. Polk, the Kennedy s, and several senators
had a relationship with Irish American gangsters that contributed to the politician as well as the
gangster s success. Their strongest relationships though, were with the police force. Becoming a
policeman was encouraged by the White Anglo Saxon Protestants because who better to take on
the dangerous, low paying job than a Paddy? (61) And so, Irishmen who often had grown up
with famous mobsters ended up as the majority of the police force; mobsters not only gained
more power in the local area due to this, but the stage was now set for corruption at all levels as
well.
In addition to the educational facts, I also learned some neat fun facts about gangsters and their
traditions. Old Smoke Morrissey was the first true Irish Mob Boss, and as such he was the one who
established the looks, desires, and attitude that we derive our stereotypes from. He started the
tendency of wearing striped suits, hats, big rings, and pocket watches, as well as having a well
kept beard and hoping to be accepted by aristocratic society through money. The famous book The
Great Gatsby was actually inspired by the mixture of glamour and danger that

This is The Wilderness Explosions in the Sky by Jacob van Loon
I particularly like this art piece because it is complex, contrasting, and portrays certain moods and
images.
To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it
with a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue
or orange watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a
balanced ratio of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the
two colors.
I ve concluded that the painting makes me think of an apocalypse now scenario. Its looks similar to
an office building with the sky reflecting off glass panes.

BIBLE STUDY FOR THE MOTHERS UNION AND WOMEN GUILD ON THE OCCASION OF
THEIR DIOCESAN WOMEN CONFERENCE HELD AT THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF
HOLY TRINITY, LOKOJA ON 29 TH 31ST AUGUST, 2014 Preamble to the Gospel according to
St. John
Just as every coin has two valid sides, so Jesus Christ has two natures, also both valid. While the
Gospel according to St. Luke presents Jesus in His humanity as the Son of Man, the Gospel of John
showcases Christ in His divinity as the Son of God.
The writer John, who along with Peter and James formed the inner circle disciple of Jesus, never
refers to himself by name, but always calls himself the disciple whom Jesus loved, as the writer of
this Gospel. (John 13:23, 19: 26; 20:2; 21:7, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary tells the servants, Do whatever he tells you, and with these words she echoes Israel s
profession of faith at Sinai. Mary personifies in a certain manner the people of Israel in the context
of the covenant and stands as a faithful representative of Israel.
Joseph and Jesus
Second, Mary s words find a close parallel with what Pharaoh said about Joseph in the Book of
Genesis. During the severe famine in Egypt, Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of storing up the wheat
harvest in the plentiful years before the famine and distributing it once the food crisis arrived.
When the starving people cried for provisions, Pharaoh told them, Go to Joseph; what he says to
you, do (Gen. 41:55) an expression almost identical to what Mary would later say at Cana.
This Biblical connection between doing whatever Joseph says and doing whatever Jesus says is
quite significant, for there are several parallels between Joseph and Jesus in these two scenes.
Just as Joseph overcame a lack of food during the famine with his storehouses of grain, so Jesus
overcomes a lack of wine at the wedding by changing a large volume of water into wine. Just as
Joseph is presented as having the Spirit of God in him at the beginning of his work (Gen. 41:38),
so Jesus is described as having the Spirit upon Him at the start of His ministry (Jn. 1:32). Just as
Joseph was 30 years old when he began to

Essay On Financial Conglomerates
A conglomerate is a large corporation that comprises a number of diverse, apparently unrelated
businesses. A conglomerate can own a controlling stake in a number of smaller companies that
conduct businesses separately. In a conglomerate, the subsidiary businesses run independently of
the other business divisions, their managers reporting to the top management of the group
company. So, a conglomerate can be also called a multi industry company. Financial conglomerates
are nothing but financial giants that have a number of small financial companies working under
them. They, basically, are of two types, namely, financial holding and bank
holding companies.

For instance, a financial conglomerate that is involved chiefly with banking would

Teaching Research Methods Within The Classroom
Abstract
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course.
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course. Within this
are many different statistical definitions which have been considered the most challenging aspect of
the curriculum.
An individual undergraduate psychology student took part in this study. The study aimed to
increase the accuracy and fluency of the recall of these definitions by applying an intervention
phase of reading through SAFMEDS cards aloud previous to recalling them in one minute. The
SAFMEDS cards were made up of key statistical concepts taken from a study guide which is core to
the research methods module. Results indicated that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is more of a requirement now as students are being given greater opportunities within their
course due to the new resources being put into psychology departments. Part of this means that
students are now able to conduct their own research within the third year of their degree, meaning
they need a deep level of understanding for statistics in order to accumulate adequate conclusions
from their results.
Precision teaching (PT) has proved to be an effective tool when aiming to teach students material
fluently and accurately. Lindsley (1990) showed that students in precision teaching classrooms
who were told to keep records of their own academic and non academic performance and use
these records to guide their performance and eventually lead to more academic success due to the
visual representation they had. This element of precision teaching is particularly useful as
learners who improve this way are susceptible to fluency based procedures which often consist of
SAFMEDS or packs of cards similar to this. SAFMEDS are typically used to help students become
fluent in definitions and basic concepts, in this experiment they are being used to improve a base of
knowledge on research methods within psychology.

Anti Corruption Watchdog Transparency International Ranks...
Corruption is a treacherous plague that has a wide range of volatile effects on societies; it
undermines democracy and the rule of law, which leads to violations of human rights, distortion of
markets, and it erodes the quality of life allowing for organized crime, terrorism, and other threats to
human security. Corruptionis universal, as it is found in all countries, yet it does the most damage to
the developing world. Corruption hurts the poor disproportionately by diverting funds intended for
development, undermining a government s ability to provide basic services, feeding inequality and
injustice and discouraging foreign aid and investment. Corruption is rampant in India, as it has taken
a prevalent role of Indian politics and bureaucracy. Corruption in India has been one of the most
interesting and discussed problems in modern political history. Anti corruption watchdog
Transparency Internationalranks the national perception of corruption in India to be 85th in the

citizens. There is a plethora of factors encouraging corruption and not every factor can be discussed,
or else the narrative would run into volumes. Only a few factors can be identified to highlight the
impact of corruption (Shekhawat, 2005). It may seem that the presence of widespread corruption

Racism In John Updike s Rabbit Run And Rabbit Redwell
John Updike has written many novels. One of his most famous series is called Rabbit Omnibus.
John Updike is known for his famous character in the Rabbit Omnibus books called Harry. John
Updike s books called Rabbit Run and Rabbit Redux shows us racism, theme, and character change.
First, in Rabbit Run and Rabbit Redux we see racism. In Rabbit Redux , it says, Now here s how.
You is a Big Black man sittin right there. You is chained to the chained to that chair. And I is
white as snow (296). This quote in the story shows how they like to play games involving
slavery. Racism is a big issue in both books. Readers can see this throughout the books with the
different characters. The quote is one character talking to the other. Another quote showing
racism in Rabbit Redux is I don t follow this racist rap, you can t turn on television now without
black face spitting at you (47). In the book several times we see Rabbit saying there are too many
blacks. The racism is not as bad in Rabbit Redux as in Rabbit Run . Between the two books, readers
can see different sides of John Updike s writing styles. In one book, he uses harsher words and
more racist words than the other book. Both of these books include elements of racism.
Second, in Rabbit Run and Rabbit Redux we see that the themes are kind of the same. The theme in
both novels involves them struggling with something in their life. In Rabbit Redux the theme is

change their use of language throughout their lives to conform to either society or to what kind
of person they want to be, or to just conform to who they need to be at a particular moment, in
which I agree. People s choice of language, including myself, are affected by many of their

Existentialism and The Plague
In the mid 1940s, a man by the name of Albert Camus began to write a story. This story he called

numerous times into many languages. This story has been read over and over, yet it tells more
than it seems to. This story tells the tale of a city gripped by a deadly disease. This is true
enough, but this is not what the novel is about. The Plague can be read as an allegory of World

(Masters 107).
Key to understanding this is that the integrity is unasserted. Camus believed that man was more
than just a shell to begin with, that there is some basic worth to a man. Within each man Camus
believed that there is a spark of goodness which only he himself could fan into a flame.
While man may have innate goodness, what Camus saw in the world more often was indifference,
inaction. Mankind failed to act on this goodness. Camus addresses this indifference in The
Plague. Camus wrote this novel during a tumultuous time in history, World War II. Even before
the war had begun, Camus saw this indifference. Camus watched as the nations of Western
Europe sat idly by as Hitler s Germany seized lands, building his Reich. These lands believed
they could ignore the problems Hitler was causing; they believed they could appease Hitler and
leave it at that. Suddenly, France had fallen under German control and England was at the mercy
of German bombers. These events helped to prompt Camus into writing The Plague. The war
which Camus witnessed was transformed into the guise of a deadly disease. However, Camus does
not merely attack the events of one war, nor

Deborah Tannen Summary
Language is used all around the world. Men and women have various ways of using language.
There are many factors in using language such as: regional, ethic, and class backgrounds; gender;
and age (Tannen 214). Deborah Tannen How Male and Female Students Use Language differently
elaborates on this topic adequately. Tannen elaborates male and femalelanguagepatterns, the debate
type teaching formats used in college classrooms, and the different male and female attitudes
toward vocal expressions exercises used in the classroom that creates a dissatisfying environment
for females. Ms. Tannen mainly focuses on the languages differences of men and women. She
concludes that different classroom strategies need to be studied and applied in order to accentuate
and improve student participation in the classroom from both males and females. In analyzing this
paper, three things are evident. One must consider how men and women bond differently, how
speaking in a classroom is more adaptable to men in a debate scenario, and how men and women
communicate and participate in a group exercise... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As children grow up, they learn how to communicate in various ways. One learns when and who to
share his or her troubles with, how to bond with fellow classmates, and how to express feelings by
using language. Tannen states that many women bond by talking about troubles, and many men
bond by exchanging playful insults and put downs (Tannen 215). . Tannen s research in You Just
Don t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation shows that the differences between the
communication patterns of men and women go beyond social occasions, and appear to be in the
basic forms of the opposite sex. Men use communication to maintain independence, while women
talk to maintain intimacy (Morrison 1). Female students often find that males like to hide their
feelings and speak undemonstrative outside the classroom

Nurse Turnover And Nurse Retention
Nurse Turnover and Nurse Retention
Stephanie Williams
NURS 411.01 Issues and Leadership in Nursing
Delaware State University
The nursing shortage in healthcare has been a highlighted issue for many years. With the ever
growing health care system, hospitals and healthcare facilities often find themselves searching for
ways to acquire new nurses and retain their very own. Throughout the years, the number one
solution to this problem remains the same: decreasing nurse turnover, and increasing nurse
retention. This paper discusses the causes of high nurse turnover rate, the negative effects on health
care, and ways to improve the turnover rate. Before we can examine the consequences of high
nurse turnover, we must examine the reasons nurses choose to leave their employer and look
elsewhere for work.
According to Hunt (2009), feeling overworked is the number one cause for nurse turnover in health
care settings. Other reasons at the top of the list include, lack of support from employers and few
opportunities for advancement. Due to the nursing shortage, staffing has been an issue in many
healthcare facilities. As a result, units are consistently short staffed, causing nurses to feel
overworked and unsupported by management. Cline (2004) highlighted nurse frustration when a
participant in the study stated, When you re constantly short staffed and feel your managers aren t
supporting you at least by saying, Thank you, I know you must ve had a hard

Introduction
In every religion known to the intelligible world, there is an everlasting battle between the forces

This essay has also illuminated the profound similarities between Zoroastrianism and the modern
Abrahamic faiths and concluded that Zoroastrianism can be regarded as the foundation upon
which Judaism, Christianity and Islam build their systems of faith. Today, the majority of
Zoroastrian followers can be found in the Indian city of Mumbai but a significant community of
Parsees also live across the United Kingdom. In Iran itself it was reported by Agence France Presse

The Importance Of Mangroves In Australia
Mangroves are trees and shrubs that can be found along coastal intertidal zones in tropical and
subtropical areas near the equator due to their inability to survive in low temperatures. Mangroves
are found not only in australia but on coastlines all over the world and are distributed over 100
countries in the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. Australia contains the third largest
area of mangroves in the world after Indonesia and Brazil, totalling around 11,500 km2
representing approximately 6.4% of the world s total mangrovearea (Appendix A)
(Mangrovewatch.com, 2017). There are 73 different types of mangrove species in the world. 39 of
these mangrove species dwell in Australia. The intertidal zoneor littoral zone, is the area that is
exposed at low tidebut is submerged by seawater during high tide. Mangroves survive in salt water
on sheltered muddy shores, because they have adapted to the harsh abiotic conditions in order to
survive in their area. Mangroves also provide a habitat for marine organisms such as fish, crabs and
yabbies. Furthermore they provide a habitat for many land animals such as birds, pythons, lizards
and crocodiles. How mangroves contribute to the functioning of intertidal ecosystems will be
discussed on this report.
Mangroves have a very important role in their ecosystem. Their niche includes protecting and
providing for many organisms. Mangroves are considered main producers in their complex food
system (Appendix B). The food chain

Rosa Parks is widely known as the African American woman who refused to get off her seat on a
bus. She did not want to forfeit her seat in order for a white individual to replace her. She was
arrested and taken into custody against her will, just because she felt the need to stay on the seat
she felt she rightfully deserved. On December 1st, 1955, according to history, Rosa Parks was
tired and exhausted from a long day of work. In fact, under different circumstances, she would
have probably given up her seat willingly to a child or elderly person. But at this point in history,
Parks was tired of the treatment she and other African Americans received everyday of their lives.

It has prevented other up and coming computer software entrepreneurs to rethink their
approaches. Because of his ambitiousness, Gates has been able to keep his hold on the computer
software industry by not letting other companies grab hold of what he worked so long and hard

he has helped regular, working class people use a basic computer. Even if you are not in a working

programs. Negatively, he has contributed to the laziness of people. Now, with a click of a

Bunkhouse Creative Writing
Hand #3
I look up towards the sky and see dark clouds rolling across the sky towards the west where the
sounds of gunfire could be heard off in the distance. I look around the cramped bunkhouse and see
the other prisoners. The bunkhouse is cold and smells of rotting flesh and human waste. The beds
are made of cheap wood and thin cloth with some hay for a mattress. The guards walk in and
start telling people to wake up. I slowly get out of my wooden bed out onto the muddy floor. My
feet feel cold as they touch onto the earth below. My hands start to hurt from the cuts covering
them when I try and get up. I see a man refusing to get out of his bunk near the entrance of the
bunkhouse. The guards saw him refusing to follow their orders and dragged ... Show more content

around looking for cover and trying to find their loved ones. I jump off my bunk and put on my
shoes as fast as I can. I run to the door of the bunkhouse and swing it open as fast as I can. The
first thing I see is a flaming jeep outside the door. I look up towards the sky and see planes
having dogfights above us as the ground forces of this unknown force move towards the gate
with an army of tanks. The gates fall easily to the much more heavily armed force of the force
that is now pushing deep inside of the camp. I run to cover nearby as an axis jeep drives by the
bunkhouse shooting at the fast advancing force. After the jeep had passed I run towards a place
where I can see who the force is. The sound of explosions and gunfire fills the air as I run
towards the gate. When I get to the supply building that is right next to the gate I climb on top of
it. I look towards the closest tank and realize that the force that is taking the camp over is the

Python s Dictionary ( Dict ) Data Types
Python s dictionary (dict) data type is a structure composed of key:value pairs where a value is
associated with a key used to look up that value. In other languages, similar data structures are
often known as associative arrays. Dictionary keys must be unique (among other keys in the dict)
and immutable, but values can be mutable or immutable and can be any data type. Dictionaries
themselves are mutable, which means that key:value pairs can be removed or added to
dictionaries, or the value of any pair modified. Dictionaries have generally been considered
unordered (order has actually been determined by the hash table, which is based on the specific
Python implementation, and thus cannot be relied on). The hash table is actually a... Show more

Because Python dictionaries can contain data structures like lists and other dictionaries, the
information in the creatureTypes dictionary could be extensive. Each entry in the dictionary
might contain a dictionary specific to that creature. These dictionaries might have keys like stats
, moves , etc. Getting the value at creatureTypes[ CreatureType ][ stats ] might return a list of the
stats the creature can have for each level it obtains. The list of moves a creature can learn, found
at creatureTypes[ CreatureType ][ moves ] might be a list where each index in the list
corresponds to a level and the item at each index is another list of moves available at that level.
This game might also have a dictionary of moves, where each move s name is a key and the
value is a dictionary of that move s attributes, such as type for whether the move does magic or
physical damage, and power for how strong the attack is. I ll note that, for the creatureTypes
dictionary, I would choose to use lists over dictionaries for something that will be looked up by
sequential integer values from 0 to n, such as creature stats for each level. Looking up a value in a
dict by key is no faster than looking up a value in a list by index. Infact, lists look up by index can
be *slightly* faster; a dictionary look up requires the key to be

Impact Of Black Friday
Impact of Black Friday on Society
We already know that the Black Friday is an American tradition that consists of a drop in prices in
major stores, during the last Friday of November, coinciding with the opening of Christmas
shopping. But what is the origin of this celebration?
The first use of the term Black Friday occurred not to refer to Christmas shopping, but in relation
to an economic crisis: on Friday, September 24, 1869, two relentless Wall Street financiers, Jay
Gould and Jim Fisk, After an intense work to obtain great benefits, they failed in their efforts, and
the market went bankrupt. For that reason, that day was named as the Black Friday .
Another of the stories that accompany the term Black Friday has to do with the role of small
businesses in the market. Tradition has it that, after a whole year of losses, finally, after
Thanksgiving, the Christmas season arrived, the day from which the benefits began, and with them,
instead of red numbers, black numbers were produced.
Others claim that its origin dates back to November 19, 1975, the day in which the New York
Times first coined the adjective black to refer to the disorder of the traffic and the chaos that had
occurred in the city of Nueva York in that year, due to discounts the day after Thanksgiving.
The tradition is indeed a positive practice for the economy of a country, simultaneously, gives the
possibility to millions of hard workers to recover their lost through the year, and to

With regard to the relationship between government spending and private consumption, two
opponent points of view can be found. The first one states that there is a relation of substitution
between government spending and private consumption. However, the other one concludes that
government spending and private consumption are complements. Therefore, it can be easily seen
that it is a controversial issue for both economists and policy makers. According to the literature,
several studies have been done to test the relationship between government spending and private
consumption in the context of industrialized countries, OECD countries, and some Asian countries.
Of course, Egypt was not one of these studied cases. Moreover, when a study was done to
investigate this point of research in the context of a group of African countries (Anoruo 2005) that

an answer to this important question; does government spending substitute or complement private
consumption in Egypt? Literature Review: Surveying the literature of testing the relationship

Theme Of Human Nature In The Lottery
The Lottery Human nature is complex. Even if we do have inclinations toward violence, we also
have inclination to empathy, to cooperation, to self control (Pinker). In The Lottery , Shirley

a great deal of sadness, not only because of the ritual that they take part of, but because they have
lost all emotion partaking in the ritual. Throughout The Lottery, the plot and characters reveal how
foolish and corrupted human nature can be. From start to finish, The Lottery is set up to be
profound in a chilling, eerie mood. In the beginning, the story starts off pleasant, The morning of
June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full summer day; the flowers were

Meanwhile, by the Ottoman Empire s conditions declining, it made it an easy key advantage into

It enhanced their ability in using their mind rather than copying and pasting which was traditional

Among the important social impacts is that the French has taught the Egyptian some of the

introduced used in the trial of Suliman Al Halaby who was executed for murdering Kleber.
Many would argue whether the expedition had a positive impact on Egypt or not. But people will
agree that although the expedition was a total military failure, it also had many positive
consequences on Egypt. Napoleon aimed to modernize it, and technically, he succeeded. He
introduced the Western culture. He studied the Egyptian culture and its ancient civilization. He
established institutions intended to help the population and introducing them to the world. Most
importantly, he ended the terrible era of Mamaleek which derived people into ignorance.

Jim Heid Photography First Steps Analysis
For the student choice activity, I chose a lynda.com video titled Photography: First Steps . In this
course, Jim Heid goes into detail regarding various photography subjects; such as: different
cameras, lighting specifics, editing photographs, etc. While I am fairly efficient in my photography
skills, I have not learned the camerabasics. That is to say, I rarely use a professional camera for my
pictures; instead, I typically capture photographs on my phone. After finishing this course, I have
learned quite a few beneficial tips in regards to photography. For instance, I have become quite
knowledgable in reference to exposure. Since I take pictures on my phone, I have not been too
concerned about finding the correct exposure. On the contrary,

Essay On Homeless Veterans
All throughout the country, veterans come back into society struggling to continue living out their
lives. They have troubles adjusting back into civilian life. These former soldiers went out onto that
battlefield to fight for us, so the least we can do is show our support and help make their
adjustment back into civilian life as smooth as possible. I believe there are four main issues that are
most important in regards to the challenges returning veterans face: homelessness, suicide attempts,
a need for job training and jobs, and the fixing of the disability system. Many veterans coming back
from deployment struggle with homelessness. This issue is one of the most urgent problems our
veterans face. According to Rosanne Haggerty,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of these 68,000, nearly 14,000 have been living without a home for more than a year and suffer
from at least one chronic illness that is too costly for them to treat. This is a problem. With our
support, they can escape homelessness! The men and women who have fought for this country
deserve more than just a sidewalk or bench to live on. They risked their lives for us to have the
freedoms we have and stay protected from our enemies. They deserve more. Luckily, there is a
solution. One idea I think would be effective, and one that was stated in the article, To Cut Veteran
Homelessness, Cut the Red Tape, is a ... need to make federal housing assistance for homeless
veterans easier to access and use. Many veterans who try to apply for this housing assistance have
to add as much as a year to their housing process. This is unacceptable. This assistance should be
used to help and smooth their transition to affording a house, not make it longer, more hectic, and
more difficult. Let us not forget that while these veterans are waiting to be approved for a house,
they are still out on the streets homeless. The most successful veterans assistance program in the
United States is the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing. This is a solution to the

Cities Of London 1550-1625 And London
Cities of London 1550 1625 (including Stratford upon Avon, Oxford and London) What was the
era of 1550 1625 like in England? Elizabethan Age The Elizabethan Age (1558 1603) is an epoch
in English history, remembered as a renaissance of classical ideals, naval triumph against the
Spanish (which at the time were disliked and considered a rival kingdom) and international
expansion. This generated a great wave of English nationalism. The era is marked by the reign
of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603), and is often hailed as the Golden Age of England . Stuart
Period The Stuart Period (1603 1714) started with the ascension of James VI of Scotland (thus
being the first king of the United Kingdom) and ended with the ascension of George I (from the
House of Hanover). The age consisted of radical politics and intense religious conflict. The age
included an extremely bloody civil war. Where was William Shakespeare born? What were the
conditions of that particularly city? William Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon in what
is now Warwickshire. Stratford upon Avon referred to the town Stratford that was upon the River
Avon, and the roman road that crossed the river was the Salt Road to Alcester. Stratford upon Avon
was a small country town a hundred miles northwest of London, a journey of four days on foot
during the Elizabethan period. Majority of the locals living in Stratford upon Avon earned their
living by farming. By 1564, there were approximately 2,000 inhabitants

Transformation Of Escherichia Bacteria And Dna
Transformation of Escherichia coli in different concentrations of Plasmid DNA
Introduction
This report discusses an experiment which students have to transform and plate competent
Escherichia coli in different concentrations of plasmid DNA. This experiment uses four
concentrations of plasmid DNA to perform four transformations. These concentrations are namely,
5 Вµl of distilled water, which acts as the control in this experiment; 2.5 Вµl of undiluted
plasmid DNA; 1.0Вµl of undiluted plasmid DNA; and lastly, 1.0Вµl of plasmid DNA diluted 1 in
10. Transformation is an important aspect in genetic engineering as it allows for a particular DNA
to enter into another cell. The aim of this experiment is to be able to perform a cell transformation

Then, we placed 100 Вµl of the E. coli cells into four Eppendorf tubes each and labelled them A,
B, C and D. After filling them up, we placed them into an ice box. After this, we needed to
perform the transformation process by mixing the E. coli cells with different concentrations of
plasmid DNA. In test tube A, we added 5 Вµl of distilled water to the E. coli cells. In test tube B,
we added 2.5 Вµl of undiluted plasmid DNA to the E. coli cells. In test tube C, we added 1.0 Вµl
of undiluted plasmid DNA to the E. coli cells. Lastly, in test tube D, we added 1.0 Вµl of
plasmid DNA diluted 1 in 10 to the E. coli cells. Then, we used a P100 pipette and mixed all the
liquids in all the Eppendorf tubes by pipetting the solution up and down. Then, we left the
Eppendorf tubes along with its contents in the ice box for twenty minutes. After twenty minutes,
we labelled the base of the four agar plates to match with the appropriate plasmid DNA
concentration about to be plated. We also wrote our initials, the date, and the table number on
the base of the agar plate. We then gently lifted up the cover of the agar plate with just enough
space to allow us to plate each tube of cells onto four different agar plates one agar plate to one
plasmid DNA concentration. We used a spreader to spread the cells evenly over the surface of the
agar, being careful not let the spreader touch

Theme Of Symbolism In The Awakening
The Awakening: The Symbols, the Characters, and the Journey Mythological criticism relies on
archetypes. Archetypes determine the form and function of literary works (Delahoyde).
Archetypes are the unknowable basic forms personified or concretized in recurring images,
symbols, or patterns (Delahoyde). By recognizing symbols and characters, we can understand
their journey and evaluate the meaning of The Awakening. Symbols throughout The Awakening
play an important role in the novel. One recurring symbol is water. Water can be seen as
purification or corruption. In this book, I believe water represents purification. As we learn at
the beginning of the book, Edna, the main character, can t swim. As the book progresses, Edna
becomes more intrigued by the water. Edna then decides to baptize herself in the water. Baptism
can be seen as rebirth because you are purifying yourself from sin. Edna makes references to how
she wasted her time in the water just splashing around, similar to a baby. Babies are born pure,
free from evil, and naked. At the end of the book, Edna is naked and chooses to drown herself.
This is a good example of purification because it is almost as if she were trying to free herself
from sin by ending her life, rather than living in a place where she knows she will continue to sin.
Zartman 2 Another important symbol in this book are the birds. The birds represent the freedom
Edna wants to have for herself, but never gets while she s alive. Both are trapped,

The Violin Monologue
Hi, Hannah. ... Wow, thank you for suggesting this piece. I usually prefer dramatic melancholy
music; especially if it s instrumental music. I spend the majority of my life in my head rather than
living it, and music like this not only gives the world I m observing a soundtrack but also
organizes my confusing thoughts into perspective. The violins are my thoughts; the voices that
continue to run back in forth, like a panic pulse without pause. The piano for me the comforter.
The comparing of my life to some else s, saying that things could be worst. It is the soothing hug
from my mum telling me everything is okay. The is cello my heavy breathing as my continue to

weight forever being an attachment of ours. 4:07 I swing like a pendulum to the beat of my
pacing thoughts, as she chants encouraging words for the both us. 4:50 the Violins demand to be

Argumentative Pop Culture
Argument essay
Pop culture is fascinating. Whether it be a popular new movie or an album by an artist, there is
always something in store for everyone to love about it. RuPaul once said, The point about pop
culture is that so much of it is borrowed. There s very little that s brand new. Instead, creativity
today is a kind of shopping process picking up on and sampling things from the world around you,
things you grew up with. What he means by this is that ideas have been reused throughout music,
movies, shows, novels, etc. over time. Nowadays it is a rarity to find anything original as many
ideas are recycled or borrowed.
Music is a unique way of expressing one s self, though ideas can become recycled and borrowed
by other artists. These days, a particularly older person could hear a newly released song and find
the music to be familiar. An artist can simply borrow the music from an older song and then
incorporate it into a new song of their own. Many artists and songwriters nowadays use this
technique in their own music. Say an older person was to hear the smash hit Shape of You by
songwriter and singer Ed Sheeran. They would hear a song that they once treasured from their
days in the club. The song No Scrubs by a high selling music trio of the 1990 s, called TLC, once
wrote a song that contains that same music. This is a perfect representation of the idea of reused
music.
Most of the time, the artist to reuse the music should always have the permission to do so. There
is such thing as music plagiarism, which is just what one may think it means, stealing music
without permission from the copyright owner. Music can also sound so similar that people would
believe that there is some kind of relation to another track. A website called
Consequenceofsound.net suggests that there have been plenty of music plagiarism cases in the
history of music. Cases that slipped away easily, cases that became so serious that they involved
court, and even more serious cases resulting in the deletion of the song overall. Coldplay has
always been a top selling artist throughout the years, with some of the most popular songs within
the past decade. The 2008 smash hit called Viva La Vidadoes contain backtracks from Joe

Teaching New Meanings For The Sorority Environment
You quickly become what you surround yourself with. This concept was a constant reminder my
mother gave me when I moved off to college. As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true
when I reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had
the biggest influence on not only my character, but my languageas well. What first seemed like
jargon has now become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary
to different intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have
surrounded myself with for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are
held secret due to our ritual ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use
in everyday language. These terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast
majority of the world population. However, when the words are used in the sorority environment,
they take on a completely new meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary
example is the transition of the words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of
defining an object s size, these terms are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. I
remember getting asked my freshman year, Are you going to rush? I immediately thought, Rush
where? As I transitioned into the Greek community, I quickly realized that the term rush changes
meaning and now means going through sorority or

Gestalt Theory
What is Gestalt Counseling?
You may want to know something more about the gestalt approach to counselling before deciding
to see a gestalt counsellor. Or you may just be interested in different approaches to counselling.
On this page I have attempted to set out some of the basic ideas of the gestalt approach. Some of
the ideas are complex and open to different interpretations, so this can be little more than an
introduction. I have also included links to other sites and articles, as well as some suggested reading.
The Gestalt Concept of Self
We all talk about ourselves in the first person I did this , my book , I felt happy etc., but what do
we mean when we use the words I or me , what is this thing we call self? ... Show more content on

For this reason the aim of gestalt counselling is to help the client gain self awareness.
Self awareness is also the aim of many spiritual paths and there are some similarities between
Buddhism and gestalt theory. In the therapy room the counsellor will help the client to gain
awareness through asking questions and making appropriate challenges. As individuals we can help
to develop our self awareness through self questioning (note this does not mean self criticism) and
through meditation. Meditation is a helpful technique for many of those suffering from emotional
and psychological problems, as well as those looking for personal and spiritual development.
The Here and Now
Gestalt therapy focuses on what is going on in the here and now, i.e. in the therapy room, rather
than what may have happened in the past. We are not influenced by the past as such, but by our
memory of the past, by the behaviours that we learnt in the past. All the information that a client
needs to develop self awareness is available in the here and now. A gestalt therapist will look at
what is actually there the client s body language, tone of voice, what is not being said as well as
what is being said etc., rather than what they think should be there. This is often referred to as the
Phenomenological approach. The therapist will try to put their own prejudices to one side and
experience the world through the client s eyes. A gestalt therapist may note

Sexually Transmitted Disease Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement: Today s society enables and encourages teenagers to engage in sexual activity
and because of this; teens are putting themselves at risk for life changing problems that can be
avoided by remaining sexually inactive. Sexually transmitted diseases, or STD s, are something
that everyone is aware of, but few pay adequate attention to. Teenagers that are having sex far too
early are finding out what STD s are firsthand. Sexually transmitted diseases are becoming more
and more common in teens. The rates are becoming so high that it is alarming. Many teen do not
realize the risk that they are putting themselves at by having sex whether it is with one partner or
multiple partners (Immell). AIDS, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis... Show more content on

If a teen contracts an STD, they will have to make multiple changes in their life if what disease
they get does not leave them bed ridden in a hospital. The hardest thing for teenagers to
understand is that if they end up contracting an STD, not only are their parents going to be
disappointed, but they will most likely have social problems in school or in public in general.
Most teenagers would not necessarily want to be friends with someone who has an STD
because they would be afraid to somehow get it too. A teen that ended up with an STD would
most likely lose a lot in not all of their friends. An STD is just a giant social burden. Just under
half of the teens in the U.S. do not see themselves at risk for contracting an STD (Henry J.
Kaiser...). According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, four million teens get an STD
every year in the U.S. This means that four millions teens have their social lives destroyed each
year. According to John D. Hartigan in his article Distributing Condoms in Schools Encourages
Teen Sex, he states that condoms are being distributed in schools. This basically enables and
encourages teenagers to have sex; it is like telling them that it is okay when it really is not.
Hartigan also states that teens are not responsible enough to use condoms correctly. Some teens do
not know how to use or cannot obtain a condom so they decide not to use one at all (The Facts of

Temper Vs Birth Order Essay
I was the second/last child born in my family. I feel that birth order has had a true effect on my
behavior and my personality. It s very easy to compare me with my brother. My brother is the
oldest. He strives to achieve his goal and , as of right now, he s doing a pretty well job with
striving. Comparing him with me, I am more of a social person. I like to hangout with my
friends and be social. I am also more humorous than many people may think. He is more of a
serious person. Also, he sometimes worries about me, only because he wants me to make sure I
achieve my goals just as he is trying to achieve his. Achieving goals isn t just something my
brother does just because he is first born. An Iranian culture is very goal oriented. My dad
always told me that if I want to pursue a career as a lawyer or a doctor, I must do what I can to
get to that goal. Since then, I have been interning at the Milton City Court and Milton Police
Department to help me get to my goal to be a lawyer. Nature vs. Nurture has played a huge part in
my life. My temper has definitely been brought upon from my dad, which is nature. The reason I

usual as well. Also, knowing what is going on in the area around me has helped to either take
caution or to help. For example, I knew about the clown case because I read about it online on
my phone, so I knew to be careful when walking the streets. I knew about the Black Lives Matter
protest in Atlanta and read about what was going on and that situation called for help. The media
just helps keep me up to date with what is going on in the society I am currently living

Legal Differences And The Legal Types Of A Business...
Identify and describe the legal categories of a business organization contrasting tax related
advantages and disadvantages. There are three main forms of business organizations that are
commonly known globally; they include; Sole Proprietorship, Partnership as well as
Corporation. Looking at the Sole proprietorship, it is conventionally known as a business run by
one person who is also the owner. This means that the owner has 100% control over the business.
This form of business organization is easy to establish since it needs very few legal requirements.
There is also no need of having partners or shareholders and the taxes paid in this business
organization is only on the income generated. That means that after paying the taxes, all remaining
profits remains with the owner. Disadvantages of this structure include less share of expertise
since the owner is the only partner. The owner also has unlimited liability for the debts and any
malpractices which also includes bearing all maintenance costs (Beyer et al. 2010). For the
partnership, it involves more than one player who is also involved in the business structure. The
partners share all costs and profits after entering into an agreement that intends to share any
commercial interests. The partners also contribute funds to start and operate the business as the
starting capital. This means that there is a pool of experience and resources by the two and the
partners share the taxes. The disadvantages of this form of

AntiTrust Laws Essay
AntiTrust Laws Introduction
Competition in economics is rivalry in supplying or acquiring an economic service or good.
Sellers compete with other sellers, and buyers with other buyers. In its perfect form, there is
competition among many small buyers and sellers, none of whom is too large to affect the market
as a whole; in practice, competition is often reduced by a great variety of limitations, including
monopolies. The monopoly, a limit on competition, is an example of market failure. Competition
among merchants in foreign trade was common in ancient times, and it has been a characteristic of
mercantile and industrial expansion since the Middle Ages. By the 19th century, classical economic
theorists had come to regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the Maryland State Constitution in 1776 stated that Monopolies are odious, contrary
to the spirit of free government... and ought not to be suffered .
With the support of President Benjamin Harrison, Congress passed the Sherman AntitrustAct in
1890. John Sherman, a lawyer and senator from Ohio, was the author of this legislation that
attempted to curb the growth of monopolies. The act declared illegal any business combination that
sought to restrain trade or commerce. Penalties for violation of the act included a $5,000 fine or
/and a year s imprisonment. The act was unable to achieve its original objectives.
Despite its good intentions, the Act didn t hit all its targets. The Act emerged as a somewhat
tenuous plan to break up the big business monopolies. The weaknesses of the Act are described by
Chief Justice Stone: The prohibitions of the Sherman Act were not stated in terms of precision or of
crystal clarity and the Act itself does not define them. In consequence of the vagueness of its
language, perhaps not uncalculated, the courts have been left to give content to the statute, and in
the performance of that function it is inappropriate that courts should interpret its words in the light
of its legislative history and of the particular evils at which the legislation was aimed. Ultimately,
there [was] no question that nearly everyone wanted to

  • 2. Analysis Of Marble Chappe Marble Champ by : Alessandra Bontomasi Have you ever said to yourself I give up right away and don t even try? Well there is a saying that is when you work hard it will pay off, and in the story Marble Champ by Gary Soto the main character, Lupe Merdrano never stopped working hard and it lead her to a big prize at the end. The reasons for this is that she was not good at sports first, then she practiced and practised, then it all paid off in the future. The first reason that hard work pays off is because in the beginning she was very bad at sports. But the thing is she would say to herself, I will never be good at sports. The first piece of evidence is that she can t run very fast, for example in the story Marble Champ she would try and try to get her body to move faster in the fifty yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that she is not good at sports because in most sports you need to run, skate or other movements that involve your legs, also she is not very fast when using her legs. My second piece of evidence is that she scored a goal for the other team, when playing soccer, by her kicking it into her own teams net. This shows that she didn t even know which net was and you need to know that to play a sport. My third example is that she can t kick a ball in the right direction and can t kick it to well. This says that she really once again doesn t know how to use her legs for the right purpose . Even if she is very good at using her brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Menorah Is A Common And Very Sacred Symbol Dating In Jewish religion the Menorah is a common and very sacred symbol dating back to ancient times. The Menorah is representative of the state of Israel, as well, as the divine light and is probably the most recognizable Jewish symbol. According to Jewish history, the Menorah was originally a seven branched candelabra beaten out of a solid piece of gold and was one of the sacred vessels in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Menorah is said to have stood in the southern part of the temple and was lit daily by the temple priest using only the highest quality fresh olive oil. The Menorah is of unique design and symbolizes the divine light. According to Jewish history, God commanded that the Menorah s goblets be turned upside down on their stems, emphasizing the importance of spreading light to others. This design reflects the Menorah s exact purpose in the Holy Temple, which was to spread the light of Godliness to the entire world. The Menorah contains a total of seven branches, six of which represent human wisdom, guided by the center branch of Divine light. The Menorah s design and representations serve as an inspiration of enlightenment. The Menorah is also said to be a symbol of the nation of Israel and its mission to be a light unto the nations. It is stated the light is not a violent force and for Israel to accomplish their mission they must set an example and refrain from violent force. Because God supposedly dictated the creation of the Menorah from pure gold, Jewish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The United Farm Workers Association Improve The Conditions... To what degree did the United Farm Workers Association improve the conditions of farmworkers in California. Introduction: In 1910 mexicans fled from Mexico to work in agriculture in America, they labored in inhumane conditions and the people they worked for ignored state laws on working conditions (Tavaana). This is how the farm workers would work before the United Farm WorkersUnion came along. They didn t have the rights they deserved, they were treated however the growers would like to treat them because they would go around the law and do what they wanted. Farm workers didn t have unions and the rights that they do now back in 1910. Research has been done on this topic on how them migrating started, on how they were treated, and how it has gotten better over the years. This topic is important because it discusses some of the history of Mexican immigrants. It also demonstrates some challenges they went through when they came to the United States to find work. My study of the topic is important because it will give some background information on how the farm workers were brought and how they were treated. After I will bring in Cesar Chavez and his contributions to helping the farm workers. Lastly I will be talking about his negative contribution which isn t talked about that often and comparing it with the positive. My investigation fits into broader questions in the subject because it is taking two different points of views and comparing them to each other. I choose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Sayuri Nitta s Memoirs Of A Geisha Power, prestige, personality, and a pleasing face: Chairman Ken Iwamura of the Iwamura Electric Company has it all. Undoubtedly, such a man would attract the great admiration of many. However, the Kyoto geisha, Sayuri Nitta, stands as an exception. She does not admire the Chairman. Instead, she is obsessed with him, so utterly entranced by his charm as to devote her entire life to having him become her danna. This intense love is the primary reason she transforms from a scared, reluctant young girl, Chiyo Sakamoto, into a manipulative and seductive full fledged geisha. Analyzing Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha through a psychoanalytical lens reveals that Sayuri Nitta s fixation upon Chairman Iwamura emerges ultimately due to her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not with the Chairman, but instead with the manipulative owner of the Japan Coastal Seafood Company, Tanaka Ichiro. After Sayuri s first meeting with him, in which he helps her and compliments her beauty, she develops a pleasant thought that I [she] tried again and again to bring into focus (16) about him. Never having felt love or affection from her own father, her subconscious search for a paternal caretaker lands on Tanaka san, the first male adult to treat her with affection. Later, Sayuri began to have fantasies that Mr. Tanaka would adopt me [her] (20), proving that she considered him her legitimate father figure and desired for him to replace her biological father. Both Sayuri s childhood psychological unfulfillment and Tanaka san s role as her first surrogate father figure cause obsession with Chairman Iwamura. Adversity and emotional problems encountered during early childhood play a great role in shaping later behaviors. Sayuri s lack of love from a father figure in her youth shapes her mind s particular susceptibility to displays of affection from older males. When the Chairman performs the simple act of helping and complimenting her, she changed from a lost girl facing a lifetime of emptiness to a girl with purpose in her life (113), the event greatly impacting her psyche. She is led to believe, through her deadpan father, that men are generally uncaring, and as such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Bradford Vs John Smith Essay In the early 1509 s 1850 s there were two Englishmen named John Smith and William Bradford that established in the colonies of British who came to the New World to share a common culture. These two men wrote journals, talking about what had happened to them in the past months and what they went through. Although they struggled and faced many challenges they did their best in order for them to survive for example, they had starvation times and although they would starve he would do his best. Bradford and Smith presented different accounts of the life on land and talked about an ideal vision of what the new land could be with the best of people colonizing the new land. Both wrote of their experience in America, were Europeans, and desired to settle the land. When Working Title Films announced its intention of making another film back in 2009, several problems arrived with such announcement. In fact, the director of Bridesmaids and most recently Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, was reportedly going to be the director of the film. However, creative differences arise with Working Title and he exited the project. Production was slanted to begin in January of 2012, nonetheless, the screenplay was not good enough, according to the actors and it drew creative differences. The main plot is contrived so that nor Jones or the two possible fathers learn about who is the actual father of the baby boy. Another misconception I had was that gangsters/mobsters controlled only corrupt policemen and judges when in fact, they controlled people at all levels of the government, occasionally even the president. Important characters like president James K. Polk, the Kennedy s, and several senators had a relationship with Irish American gangsters that contributed to the politician as well as the gangster s success. Their strongest relationships though, were with the police force. Becoming a policeman was encouraged by the White Anglo Saxon Protestants because who better to take on the dangerous, low paying job than a Paddy? (61) And so, Irishmen who often had grown up with famous mobsters ended up as the majority of the police force; mobsters not only gained more power in the local area due to this, but the stage was now set for corruption at all levels as well. In addition to the educational facts, I also learned some neat fun facts about gangsters and their traditions. Old Smoke Morrissey was the first true Irish Mob Boss, and as such he was the one who established the looks, desires, and attitude that we derive our stereotypes from. He started the tendency of wearing striped suits, hats, big rings, and pocket watches, as well as having a well kept beard and hoping to be accepted by aristocratic society through money. To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it with a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue or orange watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a balanced ratio of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the two colors. I ve concluded that the painting makes me think of an apocalypse now scenario. While the Gospel according to St. Luke presents Jesus in His humanity as the Son of Man, the Gospel of John showcases Christ in His divinity as the Son of God. The writer John, who along with Peter and James formed the inner circle disciple of Jesus, never refers to himself by name, but always calls himself the disciple whom Jesus loved, as the writer of this Gospel. Mary personifies in a certain manner the people of Israel in the context of the covenant and stands as a faithful representative of Israel. Joseph and Jesus Second, Mary s words find a close parallel with what Pharaoh said about Joseph in the Book of Genesis. During the severe famine in Egypt, Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of storing up the wheat harvest in the plentiful years before the famine and distributing it once the food crisis arrived. When the starving people cried for provisions, Pharaoh told them, Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do (Gen. 41:55) an expression almost identical to what Mary would later say at Cana. This Biblical connection between doing whatever Joseph says and doing whatever Jesus says is quite significant, for there are several parallels between Joseph and Jesus in these two scenes. Just as Joseph overcame a lack of food during the famine with his storehouses of grain, so Jesus overcomes a lack of wine at the wedding by changing a large volume of water into wine. Just as Joseph is presented as having the Spirit of God in him at the beginning of his work (Gen. 41:38), so Jesus is described as having the Spirit upon Him at the start of His ministry (Jn. 1:32). For Camus, on the other hand, a man s acts could reveal an intrinsic integrity or dignity which were always there but which had laid dormant and unasserted until he was made to face the absurdity of his mortal condition in an immortal universe (Masters 107). Key to understanding this is that the integrity is unasserted. Camus believed that man was more than just a shell to begin with, that there is some basic worth to a man. Within each man Camus believed that there is a spark of goodness which only he himself could fan into a flame. While man may have innate goodness, what Camus saw in the world more often was indifference, inaction. Mankind failed to act on this goodness. Camus addresses this indifference in The Plague. Camus wrote this novel during a tumultuous time in history, World War II. Even before the war had begun, Camus saw this indifference. Camus watched as the nations of Western Europe sat idly by as Hitler s Germany seized lands, building his Reich. These lands believed they could ignore the problems Hitler was causing; they believed they could appease Hitler and leave it at that. Suddenly, France had fallen under German control and England was at the mercy of German bombers. These events helped to prompt Camus into writing The Plague. With the ever growing health care system, hospitals and healthcare facilities often find themselves searching for ways to acquire new nurses and retain their very own. Throughout the years, the number one solution to this problem remains the same: decreasing nurse turnover, and increasing nurse retention. This paper discusses the causes of high nurse turnover rate, the negative effects on health care, and ways to improve the turnover rate. Before we can examine the consequences of high nurse turnover, we must examine the reasons nurses choose to leave their employer and look elsewhere for work. According to Hunt (2009), feeling overworked is the number one cause for nurse turnover in health care settings. Other reasons at the top of the list include, lack of support from employers and few opportunities for advancement. Due to the nursing shortage, staffing has been an issue in many healthcare facilities. Impact Of Black Friday Impact of Black Friday on Society We already know that the Black Friday is an American tradition that consists of a drop in prices in major stores, during the last Friday of November, coinciding with the opening of Christmas shopping. But what is the origin of this celebration? The first use of the term Black Friday occurred not to refer to Christmas shopping, but in relation to an economic crisis: on Friday, September 24, 1869, two relentless Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, After an intense work to obtain great benefits, they failed in their efforts, and the market went bankrupt. For that reason, that day was named as the Black Friday . Another of the stories that accompany the term Black Friday has to do with the role of small businesses in the market. Tradition has it that, after a whole year of losses, finally, after Thanksgiving, the Christmas season arrived, the day from which the benefits began, and with them, instead of red numbers, black numbers were produced. Others claim that its origin dates back to November 19, 1975, the day in which the New York Times first coined the adjective black to refer to the disorder of the traffic and the chaos that had occurred in the city of Nueva York in that year, due to discounts the day after Thanksgiving. Elizabethan Age The Elizabethan Age (1558 1603) is an epoch in English history, remembered as a renaissance of classical ideals, naval triumph against the Spanish (which at the time were disliked and considered a rival kingdom) and international expansion. This generated a great wave of English nationalism. The era is marked by the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603), and is often hailed as the Golden Age of England . Stuart Period The Stuart Period (1603 1714) started with the ascension of James VI of Scotland (thus being the first king of the United Kingdom) and ended with the ascension of George I (from the House of Hanover). • 45. Theme Of Symbolism In The Awakening The Awakening: The Symbols, the Characters, and the Journey Mythological criticism relies on archetypes. Archetypes determine the form and function of literary works (Delahoyde). Archetypes are the unknowable basic forms personified or concretized in recurring images, symbols, or patterns (Delahoyde). By recognizing symbols and characters, we can understand their journey and evaluate the meaning of The Awakening. Symbols throughout The Awakening play an important role in the novel. One recurring symbol is water. Water can be seen as purification or corruption. In this book, I believe water represents purification. As we learn at the beginning of the book, Edna, the main character, can t swim. As the book progresses, Edna becomes more intrigued by the water. Edna then decides to baptize herself in the water. Baptism can be seen as rebirth because you are purifying yourself from sin. Edna makes references to how she wasted her time in the water just splashing around, similar to a baby. Babies are born pure, free from evil, and naked. At the end of the book, Edna is naked and chooses to drown herself. This is a good example of purification because it is almost as if she were trying to free herself from sin by ending her life, rather than living in a place where she knows she will continue to sin. Zartman 2 Another important symbol in this book are the birds. The birds represent the freedom Edna wants to have for herself, but never gets while she s alive. Both are trapped, ... • 47. Argumentative Pop Culture Argument essay Pop culture is fascinating. Whether it be a popular new movie or an album by an artist, there is always something in store for everyone to love about it. RuPaul once said, The point about pop culture is that so much of it is borrowed. There s very little that s brand new. Instead, creativity today is a kind of shopping process picking up on and sampling things from the world around you, things you grew up with. What he means by this is that ideas have been reused throughout music, movies, shows, novels, etc. over time. Nowadays it is a rarity to find anything original as many ideas are recycled or borrowed. Music is a unique way of expressing one s self, though ideas can become recycled and borrowed by other artists. These days, a particularly older person could hear a newly released song and find the music to be familiar. An artist can simply borrow the music from an older song and then incorporate it into a new song of their own. Many artists and songwriters nowadays use this technique in their own music. Say an older person was to hear the smash hit Shape of You by songwriter and singer Ed Sheeran. They would hear a song that they once treasured from their days in the club. The song No Scrubs by a high selling music trio of the 1990 s, called TLC, once wrote a song that contains that same music. This is a perfect representation of the idea of reused music. Most of the time, the artist to reuse the music should always have the permission to do so. There is such thing as music plagiarism, which is just what one may think it means, stealing music without permission from the copyright owner. Music can also sound so similar that people would believe that there is some kind of relation to another track. A website called Consequenceofsound.net suggests that there have been plenty of music plagiarism cases in the history of music. Cases that slipped away easily, cases that became so serious that they involved court, and even more serious cases resulting in the deletion of the song overall. Coldplay has always been a top selling artist throughout the years, with some of the most popular songs within the past decade. As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true when I reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had the biggest influence on not only my character, but my languageas well. What first seemed like jargon has now become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary to different intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have surrounded myself with for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are held secret due to our ritual ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use in everyday language. These terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast majority of the world population. However, when the words are used in the sorority environment, they take on a completely new meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary example is the transition of the words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of defining an object s size, these terms are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. I remember getting asked my freshman year, Are you going to rush? I immediately thought, Rush where? As I transitioned into the Greek community, I quickly realized that the term rush changes meaning and now means going through sorority or ... Some of the ideas are complex and open to different interpretations, so this can be little more than an introduction. I have also included links to other sites and articles, as well as some suggested reading. The Gestalt Concept of Self We all talk about ourselves in the first person I did this , my book , I felt happy etc., but what do we mean when we use the words I or me , what is this thing we call self? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason the aim of gestalt counselling is to help the client gain self awareness. Self awareness is also the aim of many spiritual paths and there are some similarities between Buddhism and gestalt theory. In the therapy room the counsellor will help the client to gain awareness through asking questions and making appropriate challenges. As individuals we can help to develop our self awareness through self questioning (note this does not mean self criticism) and through meditation. Meditation is a helpful technique for many of those suffering from emotional and psychological problems, as well as those looking for personal and spiritual development. The Here and Now Gestalt therapy focuses on what is going on in the here and now, i.e. in the therapy room, rather than what may have happened in the past. We are not influenced by the past as such, but by our memory of the past, by the behaviours that we learnt in the past. All the information that a client needs to develop self awareness is available in the here and now. A gestalt therapist will look at what is actually there the client s body language, tone of voice, what is not being said as well as what is being said etc., rather than what they think should be there. This is often referred to as the Phenomenological approach. The therapist will try to put their own prejudices to one side and experience the world through the client s eyes. Most teenagers would not necessarily want to be friends with someone who has an STD because they would be afraid to somehow get it too. • 51. Temper Vs Birth Order Essay I was the second/last child born in my family. I feel that birth order has had a true effect on my behavior and my personality. It s very easy to compare me with my brother. My brother is the oldest. He strives to achieve his goal and , as of right now, he s doing a pretty well job with striving. Comparing him with me, I am more of a social person. I like to hangout with my friends and be social. I am also more humorous than many people may think. He is more of a serious person. Also, he sometimes worries about me, only because he wants me to make sure I achieve my goals just as he is trying to achieve his. Achieving goals isn t just something my brother does just because he is first born. An Iranian culture is very goal oriented. My dad always told me that if I want to pursue a career as a lawyer or a doctor, I must do what I can to get to that goal. Since then, I have been interning at the Milton City Court and Milton Police Department to help me get to my goal to be a lawyer. Nature vs. Nurture has played a huge part in my life. My temper has definitely been brought upon from my dad, which is nature. The reason I know my temper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, knowing what is going on in the area around me has helped to either take caution or to help. For example, I knew about the clown case because I read about it online on my phone, so I knew to be careful when walking the streets. I knew about the Black Lives Matter protest in Atlanta and read about what was going on and that situation called for help. The media just helps keep me up to date with what is going on in the society I am currently living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Legal Differences And The Legal Types Of A Business... Identify and describe the legal categories of a business organization contrasting tax related advantages and disadvantages. There are three main forms of business organizations that are commonly known globally; they include; Sole Proprietorship, Partnership as well as Corporation. Looking at the Sole proprietorship, it is conventionally known as a business run by one person who is also the owner. This means that the owner has 100% control over the business. This form of business organization is easy to establish since it needs very few legal requirements. There is also no need of having partners or shareholders and the taxes paid in this business organization is only on the income generated. That means that after paying the taxes, all remaining profits remains with the owner. Disadvantages of this structure include less share of expertise since the owner is the only partner. The owner also has unlimited liability for the debts and any malpractices which also includes bearing all maintenance costs (Beyer et al. 2010). For the partnership, it involves more than one player who is also involved in the business structure. The partners share all costs and profits after entering into an agreement that intends to share any commercial interests. The partners also contribute funds to start and operate the business as the starting capital. This means that there is a pool of experience and resources by the two and the partners share the taxes. The disadvantages of this form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. AntiTrust Laws Essay AntiTrust Laws Introduction Competition in economics is rivalry in supplying or acquiring an economic service or good. Sellers compete with other sellers, and buyers with other buyers. In its perfect form, there is competition among many small buyers and sellers, none of whom is too large to affect the market as a whole; in practice, competition is often reduced by a great variety of limitations, including monopolies. The monopoly, a limit on competition, is an example of market failure. Competition among merchants in foreign trade was common in ancient times, and it has been a characteristic of mercantile and industrial expansion since the Middle Ages. By the 19th century, classical economic theorists had come to regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the Maryland State Constitution in 1776 stated that Monopolies are odious, contrary to the spirit of free government... and ought not to be suffered . With the support of President Benjamin Harrison, Congress passed the Sherman AntitrustAct in 1890. John Sherman, a lawyer and senator from Ohio, was the author of this legislation that attempted to curb the growth of monopolies. The act declared illegal any business combination that sought to restrain trade or commerce. Penalties for violation of the act included a $5,000 fine or /and a year s imprisonment. The act was unable to achieve its original objectives. Despite its good intentions, the Act didn t hit all its targets. The Act emerged as a somewhat tenuous plan to break up the big business monopolies. The weaknesses of the Act are described by Chief Justice Stone: The prohibitions of the Sherman Act were not stated in terms of precision or of crystal clarity and the Act itself does not define them. In consequence of the vagueness of its language, perhaps not uncalculated, the courts have been left to give content to the statute, and in the performance of that function it is inappropriate that courts should interpret its words in the light of its legislative history and of the particular evils at which the legislation was aimed. Ultimately, there [was] no question that nearly everyone wanted to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
