Aquaponics uses the filtered effluent of fish to fertilize the vegetable field. The Veggies take what they want, then it is re-filtered, bio digested, and the water is recirculated back to the fish. It is the MOST efficient and natural growing method possible.

Porter's Value Chain categorizes a company's primary activities as inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service, and secondary activities as procurement, human resources, technology development, and infrastructure. The Baltimore Sustainable Economic Initiative proposes a partnership between three organizations - the Baltimore Sustainable Economic Initiative, the Family Fish Farm Network, and Micro Venture Support - to establish an aquaponics business model in Baltimore. The initiative would start small, establish a proof of concept system, and expand over three phases to become a commercially profitable and employee-owned business providing jobs, training, and locally grown food to the community in a sustainable way.
