This is the fifth and final sermon in the series "Growing Deep Growing Strong" In this sermon we consider the growing hunger for an experience of "fullness" in a frenetic culture that drains us. This sermon explores the promise of pantheism to deliver this "fullness", how pantheism falls short, and how the God of the Bible delivers true "fullness" through Christ.
I Corinthians 14:37-38 God does not want us to be ignorant of concern for others, God's righteousness, the hardening of Israel, the possibility of our falling, spiritual gifts, what others do for us, Satan's Devices, the resurrection.

An overview of the bible
Since the beginning of time, there has been a plan for Jesus and our souls. God’s plan is revealed throughout the entire Bible! Many view the Old and New Testaments as unrelated, but there is an amazing message that begins in the Old Testament and carries through to the New Testament. The message is of God’s love and man’s redemption. That is what this booklet is about. I hope it will be an encouragement to you.
If you have any questions about the material in this booklet or would like to study further, please get into contact with me.

God is faithful and just. He forgives our sins if we confess them. On this condition we receive mercy. Moreover, His love have not ceased. Therefore, we may commit the keeping of our souls to God as unto faithful Creator and Redeemer.

What is our moral compass? Everyone has some theological moral compass. As a Christian, our moral compass should be the word of God. Many in the world use television, social media, the teachings of men, parents, or their college professor as their guideline for formulating their moral compass. How do Christians point the way to Christ and His word as a compass of right and wrong?

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Why a sacrifice
1.
2. The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb
of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
- John 1:29 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE?
Slide 2 of 36
4. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
- Romans 3:23 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: Mankind is Sinful
Slide 4 of 36
5. 21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who
wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the
inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body,
waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of
the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am!
Who will set me free from the body of this death?
- Romans 7:21-24 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: Mankind is Sinful
Slide 5 of 36
6. This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you,
that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
- 1 John 1:5 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: God is Holy
Slide 6 of 36
7. 1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and
the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the
land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your
descendants I will give it.’ 2 “I will send an angel before you and I will
drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the
Hivite and the Jebusite. 3 “Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey;
for I will not go up in your midst, because you are an obstinate people,
and I might destroy you on the way.”
- Exodus 33:1-3 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: God is Holy
Slide 7 of 36
8. 4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him
from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said,
“Here I am.” 5 Then He said, “Do not come near here; remove your
sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy
ground.”
- Exodus 3:4-5 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: God is Holy
Slide 8 of 36
9. 13 Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up
his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him
with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to
him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” 14 He said, “No; rather I
indeed come now as captain of the host of the LORD.” And Joshua fell
on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has
my lord to say to his servant?” 15 The captain of the LORD’S host said
to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where
you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
- Joshua 5:13-15 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: God is Holy
Slide 9 of 36
10. For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil
dwells with You
- Psalm 5:4 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: God is Holy
Slide 10 of 36
11. How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O
Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like
Zeboiim? My heart is turned over within Me, All My compassions are
kindled.
- Hosea 11:8 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Dilemma of a Father Separated from the Children
He Loves and Who Love Him
Slide 11 of 36
12. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do
you?" 68 Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You
have words of eternal life.”
- John 6:67-68 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Dilemma of a Father Separated from the Children
He Loves and Who Love Him
Slide 12 of 36
13. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,
and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
- Isaiah 59:2 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Dilemma of a Father Separated from the Children
He Loves and Who Love Him
Slide 13 of 36
14. Even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive
together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).
- Ephesians 2:5 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Were Spiritually Dead
Slide 14 of 36
15. When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of
your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all
our transgressions.
- Colossians 2:13 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Were Spiritually Dead
Slide 15 of 36
16. 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the
garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of
good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you
will surely die.”
- Genesis 2:16-17 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Cost of Sin is Death
Slide 16 of 36
17. The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for
the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the
son's iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself,
and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
- Ezekiel 18:20 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Cost of Sin is Death
Slide 17 of 36
18. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by
his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and
when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
- James 1:14-15 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Cost of Sin is Death
Slide 18 of 36
19. And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed
with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
- Hebrews 9:22 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Fundamental Principle of Atonement
Slide 19 of 36
20. For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the
altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of
the life that makes atonement.
- Leviticus 17:11 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Fundamental Principle of Atonement
Slide 20 of 36
21. ATONEMENT - To make right
(reconcile) a wrong
Slide 21 of 36
22. 1 For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come
and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices
which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw
near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because
the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had
consciousness of sins? 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of
sins year by year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats
to take away sins.
- Hebrews 10:1-4 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Blood of Bulls & Goats Would not Suffice
Slide 22 of 36
23. The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb
of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
- John 1:29 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE:The Great Answer to Our Dilemma
Slide 23 of 36
24. Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you
are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been
sacrificed.
- 1 Corinthians 5:7 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: Christ Our Passover Lamb
Slide 24 of 36
25. Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver
or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19but
with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood
of Christ.
- 1 Peter 1:18-19 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb
Slide 25 of 36
26. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own
way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.
- Isaiah 53:6 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: He Bore Our Iniquity
Slide 26 of 36
27. And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we
might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were
healed.
- 1 Peter 2:24 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: He Bore Our Iniquity
Slide 27 of 36
28. 6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the
ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps
for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God
demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been
justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through
Him. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God
through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we
shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this, but we also exult in God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received
the reconciliation.
- Romans 5:6-11 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Fundamental Principle of Atonement
Slide 28 of 36
29. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which
were yours in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you,
be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written,
“YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
- 1 Peter 1:14-16 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Are to be Holy
Slide 29 of 36
30. Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your
bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual service of worship.
- Romans 12:1 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Are to be Holy
Slide 30 of 36
31. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and
gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having
cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might
present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle
or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless
- Ephesians 5:25-27 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Are to be Holy
Slide 31 of 36
32. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things
passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things
are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us
the ministry of reconciliation,19 namely, that God was in Christ
reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against
them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were
making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be
reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our
behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: The Ministry of Reconciliation
Slide 32 of 36
33. 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His
only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
10In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent
His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
- 1 John 4:9-10 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Are Made Holy by the Love and Grace of our God
Slide 33 of 36
35. 1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of
speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. 2 For I
determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him
crucified.
- 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 NASB
WHY A SACRIFICE: We Are Made Holy by the Love and Grace of our God
