In this guide I provide information and tools for people to ask and answer five basic questions to create and implement their plan. Each year, people make resolutions that don’t seem to stick. This is because they are short sighted and are not grounded in a longer term plan and direction for their life. My goal in this guide is to get people thinking and planning based on what you want they want out of their life in the future and setting goals and strategies now to get there.

Using Action Research to Identify Data During Clinical Experience (main)Antwuan Stinson
Critical thinking is the focal point missed in many students’ education. Learning to ask appropriate questions and deduce information in order to build a deeper connection to the information is imperative. This paper discusses alternative master’s preservice teachers’ use of action research to serve as a guide during a 16-week clinical experience. Semi-structured interviews and reflection papers were conducted to create a comparative case study that analyzed the clinical experiences.
Instructional Strategies was a presentation given during "What Administrators Want Teachers to Know." Inservice teachers participated discussing which strategies work well and those that they wanted to try. They noticed how others were experts with different strategies but collaboration was necessary to build teacher capacity.
Implementing classroom management strategies require technique which may only developed over time. This session was presented to inservice teachers as a review to the roles for a school to function as high performing centers of learning.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

5. In a nutshell
• Sniff is an Innovator style. He’s got the ability to sense and respond to changes happening in the
environment much more quickly than the other styles. He gets excited about creating new things and
likes you to get excited with him.
• Scurry is a Producer style. He’s got the ability to run, run, run and do the work from early to late. He
gets frustrated when there are obstacles in his path and seeks to run around them or punch through
them.
• Hem is a Stabilizer style. He’s got the ability to make things systematized and controllable. In the
story, it is Hem who gets left behind because change can be seen as a really big threat to someone who
excels at control and stability.
• Haw is a Unifier style. He’s got the ability to empathize and connect well with others. In the story, it
is Haw who follows Sniff and Scurry but all the while is concerned about where Hem is and how Hem
is doing. Ultimately, Haw leaves the writing on the wall for others like Hem to follow.
8. Talking Points
1. In Johnson's book the cheese is a metaphor. What does it represent?
2. What does the maze represent?
3. Identify both the cheese and the maze in your own life. Then consider what
might happen if someone moved your cheese. Imagine the ways you might
have to cope with the changes.
9. Reflection
4. What changes have you already experienced in your life? How did you react
to the changes? Were you threatened, angry, frightened, disoriented, or
excited by the challenge (come on...be honest!)? After reading Who Moved My
Cheese? do you feel you dealt as well as you could have with those changes?
10. What Conclusion?
5. Do you wish Johnson had offered concrete answers to the question of
dealing with change? Would you have preferred a "how-to" approach, say, a
step-by step guide? Or do you appreciate the way in which readers are free to
interpret and apply the parable for themselves? Which approach is more
helpful to you?
11. Discussion link
• [Blog]
discussion-and.html
12. Questions
• Who were you in the story? Sniff, Scurry, Hem or Haw?
• When have you had to go look for New Cheese?
• Has your Cheese been moved more than once in your business life? Your
personal life?
• How many of you are afraid of change? Do you think people are generally
afraid of change?
• What would you do if you weren’t afraid of change?
13. Questions
• Why do people tend to resist change?
• Have you ever run out of Cheese? What did you do to find New Cheese?
• What do you need to let go of and what do you need to move on to?
• Have you ever moved your own Cheese? How did you accomplish that?
14. Questions
• How do you deal with the Sniffs, Scurrys, Hems and Haws?
• How can you help people around you accept and embrace change?
• What happens in an organization when change is announced by top
management? Is it perceived as a good or bad idea? Why?
15. Activity
Divide up into teams of 2-4 people
• Solving a jigsaw puzzle
• Solving a Riddle
• Writing a group story
• Develop student activity (no particular grade level), creative, critical thinking
