We have yet to learn about the goal of the MVP. No context. Neither do we know that the app will later be connected to the patient’s database. Based on what little information we have, we create an estimation of 100 working hours.
My Agile 2013 session 'Rapid Product Design in the Wild'. In August 2012 Red Gate attended Kscope, a conference for Oracle developers. Instead of doing the usual product demonstrations, we turned our stand into a live lab and took Agile development processes out of the office and in front of our customers. Our stand included an area for customer research, a Kanban board and information radiators in the form of a whiteboard, blank wall and a large digital screen. Over 3 days we ran 9 sprints and conducted 25 customer interviews, using a paper prototype to get feedback. We collected invaluable information about our customers' development environments, how they work with their teams, their processes, tasks and pain points. By the end of the conference my colleague had developed an interactive HTML/CSS prototype which potential customers could evaluate. The team went through several rapid build-measure-learn cycles to improve our product concept and validate the market need.
This presentation explains the process we used and introduces the Live Design Lab Planner, a tool which helps teams to plan this type of rapid product design activity.

Design studio: A team alignment secret weapon - Modev MVP Conference
We all want the best user experience, but often other priorities get in the way: “Bob from Marketing wants it to…”, “The developers don’t like that approach...”, “That feature is a ‘nice to have’”.
What if you had a tool that can help folks sharpen their UX skills, get them prioritizing the users and their goals, and align everyone on a common vision that revolves around a great user experience?
This hands-on tutorial will walk you through a design studio and how it can be a great tool to align product owners, developers and UX teams on an approach that balances user and business needs. We’ll also show you how to conduct a “mini design studio” before an agile sprint.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with different aspects of running a design studio through individual and group exercises throughout the tutorial.

#NoEstimates - Stop lying to yourself and your customers, and stop estimatinggerardbeckerleg
After his successful session last year on Agile Scrum, our resident Scrum White Robe Gerard Beckerleg is at it again, except this time he's taking on one of the most divisive topics in software development: Estimation.
In this video recorded at the Sydney SSW offices, Gerard Beckerleg takes a dive into the depths of this controversial topic and extracts the most interesting ideas and raises some very difficult questions about the big white elephant in the room that is Software Estimation.
After examining the pros and cons of estimation Gerard lays the blueprint for a better way to help you and your clients get what they are really looking for.

The term design can mean different things to people from different backgrounds. This talk from the PyGRAZ and UX Graz meetup from 2023-07-25 acts as basis for an open discussion between these two user groups. It describes the "minimum viable everything" design of an actual application under development. Starting from the problem to solve it explores the evolution of the data models and visualizes a major rework. It also showcases a few approaches to "low effort" UI in the early phase of a project when concepts are still in flux.

Mike hasworked as a glass installer since leaving high school. Tenyears ago he took
over the family business from his father. He has avery hands-on approach to the
things he uses and does.
He has an iMac and an old SonyEricsson feature phone. He thinks about buying “one of
those fancy smart phones” – but one that doesn’t breakwhen it falls intowater.
Mike hasvery little experiencewith computers but he can use Mail (his 14y/o son set it
up for him), Word and Quickbooks up towhat he thinks he needs. He knowswhat a
PDF is but he has no ideawhat a CAD program might be.
Hewants to plan hiswork (e.g. a shower) quick and error proof and get a quick sign-off
from his clients. Furthermore, Mikewants to improve his purchase process.
Typical work scenario
Mike is hired to build a new shower at a house in the neighbourhood. He drives to his
clients and takes the measurements on construction site in a quick hand drawing. Back
at his office, he uses the technical details provided by the manufacturers to calculate
the final glass sizes. He sends a quotewith the hand drawing, a copy from the
catalogue and two photos of previous projects to his clients to get a sign-off. After his
client has the signed-off, Mike orders glass and hinges. He sends a copy of his drawing
to the glass supplier to make sure the glass is cut right. After he has a delivery date for
his materials, he proposes a date for the installation to his client.
His client refuses the date as they are on holidays, but proposes an
alternative. On that day, Mike installs the shower at his client’s place.
Finally, he sends an invoice to his clients and gets paid.

different installations from

the plan by hand and it takes
me much time. It would be
awesome to reduce planning
times.«
