This document discusses RDFa and linked open data. It provides examples of organizations that have implemented RDFa, including the Library of Congress, the New York Times, and UK government websites. It also discusses tools for working with RDFa and the benefits it can provide for publishing structured data on the web.

The Power of Semantic Technologies to Explore Linked Open DataOntotext
Atanas Kiryakov's, Ontotext’s CEO, presentation at the first edition of Graphorum (http://graphorum2017.dataversity.net/) – a new forum that taps into the growing interest in Graph Databases and Technologies. Graphorum is co-located with the Smart Data Conference, organized by the digital publishing platform Dataversity.
The presentation demonstrates the capabilities of Ontotext’s own approach to contributing to the discipline of more intelligent information gathering and analysis by:
- graphically explorinh the connectivity patterns in big datasets;
- building new links between identical entities residing in different data silos;
- getting insights of what type of queries can be run against various linked data sets;
- reliably filtering information based on relationships, e.g., between people and organizations, in the news;
- demonstrating the conversion of tabular data into RDF.

Usage of Linked Data: Introduction and Application ScenariosEUCLID project
This presentation introduces the main principles of Linked Data, the underlying technologies and background standards. It provides basic knowledge for how data can be published over the Web, how it can be queried, and what are the possible use cases and benefits. As an example, we use the development of a music portal (based on the MusicBrainz dataset), which facilitates access to a wide range of information and multimedia resources relating to music.
Google's recent announcement that it will support the use of microformats in their search opens up new possibilities for librarians and library technologists to support the goals of the semantic web; namely to provide better access, reuse and recombinations of library resources and services on the open web. This lightning talk introduces the semantic web and semantic markup technologies.

Existing data management approaches assume control over schema, data and data generation, which is not the case in open, de-centralised environments such as the Web. The lack of control means that there are social processes necessary to generate 'ordo ab chao' and hence a new life cycle model is necessary.
Based on our experience in Linked Data publishing and consumption over the past years, we have identify involved parties and fundamental phases, which provide for a multitude of so called Linked Data life cycles.

morning session talk at the second Keystone Training School "Keyword search in Big Linked Data" held in Santiago de Compostela.
https://eventos.citius.usc.es/keystone.school/
The Semantic Web is about to grow up. By efforts such as the Linked Open Data initiative, we finally find ourselves at the edge of a Web of Data becoming reality. Standards such as OWL 2, RIF and SPARQL 1.1 shall allow us to reason with and ask complex structured queries on this data, but still they do not play together smoothly and robustly enough to cope with huge amounts of noisy Web data. In this talk, we discuss open challenges relating to querying and reasoning with Web data and raise the question: can the emerging Web of Data ever catch up with the now ubiquitous HTML Web?
As of Drupal 7 we'll have RDFa markup in core, in this session I will:
-explain what the implications are of this and why this matters
-give a short introduction to the Semantic web, RDF, RDFa and SPARQL in human language
-give a short overview of the RDF modules that are available in contrib
-talk about some of the potential use cases of all these magical technologies
An introduction deck for the Web of Data to my team, including basic semantic web, Linked Open Data, primer, and then DBpedia, Linked Data Integration Framework (LDIF), Common Crawl Database, Web Data Commons.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

6. Big RDFa related projects
The US Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is the USA’s oldest federal cultural institution and serves as
the research arm of Congress. It is also the largest library in the world, with
millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts in its collections.
The Library of Congress Authorities and Vocabularies service enables both humans
and machines to programmatically access authority data at the Library of Congress.
This service is influenced by—and implements—the Open Linked Data movement's
approach of exposing and inter-connecting data on the Web via dereferenceable
Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs).

8. Linked data
The New York Times and linked data
As of 13 January 2010, The New York Times has published
approximately 10,000 subject (people, organisations, locations)
headings as linked open data under a CC BY license.
‣ This includes both RDF documents and human-friendly HTML versions.
‣ Each subject heading published on data.nytimes.com is associated with a
Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) that is unique to that subject heading.
‣ When this URI is dereferenced in a web browser, an HTML document
describing the subject heading is returned. Appending ".rdf" to the URI
causes an RDF/XML document to be returned.

Build your own NYT linked data application
EVAN SANDHAUS, March 30 2010
Now that we’ve published nearly 10,000 of our tags as Linked Open Data, you’re
probably wondering what kind of cool applications you can build with this data. To
help you get started (and since linked data applications are a little different from
your average Web application), we thought we’d provide a sample application and
detailed information about how we built it.

10. Official RDFa deployment in UK
RDFa and linked data in UK government
web-sites
Mark Birbeck, Nodalities Magazine, 29 July 2009
The UK government’s Central Office of Information had a straightforward problem to
solve: how could they create a centralised web-site of information that the public
could search and access, when the source of that information could be any
government department database or any public sector web-site?
By using RDFa to address the challenge of making distributed data available in one
place, the COI avoided having to make changes to each department's systems. But
once each department is publishing RDFa, it becomes possible for third parties to
consume that information however they see fit. Such a flexible architecture is
crucial in the age of open government, and is a cornerstone of linked open data.

TSO announces major new platform to
accelerate open data drive
TSO partners with Garlik on hosted "trillion triple" RDF platform, 18 January 2010
TSO (The Stationery Office), the public sector division of Williams Lea, has today
announced a partnership with Garlik, the leading semantic technology innovator, to
launch what is believed to be the world's most scalable, securely hosted RDF
platform for use by UK Central and Local Government departments. As the largest
publisher in the UK of public sector documents (over 8,000 titles a year), TSO has
taken this proactive step to provide its core public sector customers with the ability
to participate with confidence in the Government's open data initiative.

13. Important questions
Microformats and RDFa: Adding Richer
Structure To Your HTML Pages
Brian Kelly (UK Web Focus), 25 March 2010
But before investing time and energy into using RDFa the Web manager will need
answers to the following questions.
1. What benefits can this provide?
2. What vocabularies do we need to use and how should the data be described?
3. What tools are available which can process the RDFa which we may chose to
create?
