6. Symptoms of Leaf blight:
• Oval to elongate brown lesions on the leaf blade and also on the
leaf sheath
• Several spots coalesce to produce bigger lesions, gradually entire
leaf becomes blighted
7. Favorable condition of disease development:
High temperature (25oC) and humidity
Disease management:
• Cultivation of tolerant varieties eg. Shatabdi, BARI Gom 28 to 33
• Planting of wheat in mid November
• Seed treatment with Vitavax-200 or Provax @ 3g/Kg of dry seed
• Use of optimum dose of fertilizers
• Foliar spray with Tilt-250 EC (0.05%)/ Nativo/Amistar top once at
heading and another at 15 days after the first spray
10. Symptoms of blast
•Spike become partially or completely bleached with blackening of rachis.
•Elliptical grayish to tan necrotic lesion with blotch lesion, blackening of
lower nodes. Leaves are also infected.
•Grains become shriveled, small, deformed, low wt.
Favorable condition of disease development
•Rain or high humidity during grain formation or panicle initiation and high
temperature (>18oC)
11. Disease management:
•Use of disease free seed.
•Cultivation of tolerant variety like BARI Gom 28, 30 and 33
•Seed treatment with Provax-200 WP or Vita flo @ 3 g/Kg of seed.
•One spray with Nativo 75WG or Novita 75WG before panicle
initiation and one spray after 12-15 days.
14. Symptoms of leaf rust:
• Small roundish orange or brownish red pustules are found mainly
on leaves but may be found on leaf sheath, glumes, awns etc.
15. Favorable condition of disease development:
High humidity
Disease management:
• Cultivation of resistant varieties eg. BARI Gom 28 to 33
• Planting in mid November
• Two to three spray of Tilt 250EC (0.05%) / Nativo / Amistar top
at 12-15 day interval starting from initiation of disease
18. Symptoms of foot and root rot:
• The symptom appears as yellowing of lower leaves of seedlings
which gradually progress to the upper leaves.
• White mycelial strands or sclerotia of sclerotium rolfsii are
visible on the base of the seedling near the soil level
19. Favorable condition:
High soil moisture specially during sowing
Disease management:
• Sowing of seeds under optimum soil moisture condition
• Seed treatment with Vitavax-200 or Provax @ 3g/Kg of seed
• Soil drenching with Vitavax-200 or Provax @ 0.15%
• Use of biocontrol agents like Trichoderma harzianum
21. Symptoms of seedling blight:
• Brown to dark brown lesions are developed on leaves, seedlings
gradually become yellow, ultimately blighted and die
Favorable condition:
High soil moisture content
Disease management:
• Sowing of seeds under optimum soil moisture level
• Seed treatment wit Vitavax-200 or Provax @ 3g/Kg of seed
23. Causal agent(s): Several fungal species like Bipolaris sorokiniana,
Alternaria alternata, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium species and
Cladosporium cladosporioides
24. Symptoms of black point:
• The disease appears as brown to black discoloration usually
restricted to the embryonal end of the seed.
• Incase of severe infection the whole grain may be discolored and
shrivelled
Disease management:
• Harvesting of crop without delay after maturity
• Spraying of Tilt-250 EC (0.05%) once at heading stage and other at
15 days later.
