A presentation from Connect More by James Kieft, group learning and development manager, Activate Learning.
In this session, James explores what the possible impact of COVID-19 will be on the new academic year from September. He considers how colleges will have to alter their delivery to ensure they can meet the government's requirements for social distancing which could result in smaller class sizes and generally fewer students on-site at one time.
James suggests delivery approaches such as the use of flipped learning, along with considering whether a mixture or synchronous and asynchronous delivery will bring about the best outcomes for students.

4. Things to consider
How will we support
the well being of
staff and students
Do all students
and staff have
technology to
engage remotely
How will we support
staff and students
with accessing and
using the technology

5. Time on site at a premium
Planning of learning
takes on even
greater importance
Greater focus on
what activities need
specific access to
specialist equipment
How are we
maximising the
time available

6. What could it look like
Student groups on
fortnightly rotation
Appropriate units
being moved
solely online
A move to a
blended model with
a mixture of online
and face to face
A mix of
synchronous
and asynchronous
activities

7. Structure learning
How will lesson
components have to
change when
teaching remotely
Will the way we use
formative and summative
assessment differ
How will we maintain
student engagement

8. Building blocks
The ingredients
remain the same, but
the way the recipe is
baked is different
Activities mapped to the learning cycle

9. For the Future
Use this as a catalyst
for positive change
Not revert to back
to previous ways
of working
Implement the
areas that have
worked well, build
on this momentum
