Procurement ai is artificial intelligence real in procurementZycus
Though the reality of AI in procurement is still debatable, one can’t deny the fact that human skills/human learning is a vital part of the AI puzzle. So what skills will one require to become a vital and relevant factor in AI-driven procurement practice?
The document discusses Brookdale Senior Living's digital transformation of its procurement process through "assisted sourcing" driven by the Zycus source-to-pay suite. It describes Brookdale's key challenges with limited spend influence, compliance issues due to a localized culture, and lack of granular spend visibility. The digitization effort enabled increased spend influence and sourcing effectiveness through greater visibility and analytics-driven insights.
The document discusses strategies for procurement and payables (P2P) success in mid-sized companies. It recommends taking a holistic approach to P2P, defining clear goals and metrics, engaging stakeholders early, prioritizing collaboration with suppliers, gaining executive sponsorship, and developing a comprehensive P2P blueprint. Adopting these strategies can help mid-market companies overcome common P2P challenges and achieve greater efficiency, compliance, and cost savings.

In a post-COVID-19 world, procurement leaders will need to transform the procurement function and source-to-pay processes to become strategic enablers who improve competitive advantage.
Emerging technologies such as RPA and AI mean that over 50% of the source-to-pay process could be automated. Combined with other improvement levers such as process simplification, standardisation and outsourcing, a significant amount of time can be saved to free buyers to work on strategic category management, managing supplier relationships and managing spend.
The document summarizes a presentation on branding procurement. It discusses how procurement has traditionally focused on cost cutting but now needs to shift focus to driving supplier innovation and reducing supply chain risk. It provides examples of how procurement can champion innovative ideas from suppliers like the upside down ketchup bottle. It also notes that few companies have effective supplier screening programs and that formal risk management can generate higher returns. The presentation encourages procurement to expand its horizons and embrace new trends in order to effectively brand its value to organizations.

Branding Procurement
As someone who has been in the supply world for more years than I would care to admit, the old Rodney Dangerfield lament about getting no respect was second only to the "we want a seat at the table" refrain.
While the profession as a whole had made some advancements beyond the days when CFOs considered our enterprise contributions to be either minimal or non-existent, it is still safe to say that we procurement professionals have not properly branded ourselves and the value we bring to our organizations.
"Some executives used to think of procurement as the place you send staff away in order to never see them again." - Leading Procurement Strategy, Carlos Mena, Remko van Hoek, Martin Christopher
In this presentation, (sponsored by Zycus), have a look at where procurement as a profession was, where are they today, and what they have to do to realize their full potential in the future.

The purchasing team is perceived as knowledgeable and competent in their operational role, but may be taken for granted. They are seen as enforcing rules and adding unnecessary steps rather than providing value. Purchasing people are often viewed as "bag men" who don't collaborate. To improve, they can seek training, manage expectations, and partner with business needs while ensuring compliance.
The document compares spending visibility and procurement metrics for various companies and industry groups over time. It shows that world-class companies have higher percentages of spend with line item visibility and lower rates of maverick spending and procurement costs than peer groups. Various metrics such as maverick spending rates, procurement costs as a percentage of addressable spend, and number of procurement FTEs per $1 billion in spend are charted from 2005 to 2014.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.

Robotic Process Automation?
“ Robotic process automation has become a buzzword most
procurement professionals can’t escape. But despite its
seeming ubiquity, RPA still tends to produce just as much
head scratching as efficiency gains.”

And the answer is . . .
“Robotic process automation is simply a type of software
that mimics the activity of a human carrying out a task within
a process. The term is derived from the idea of a “software
robot,” an application that replicates the actions a user takes
through the user interface of a computer system.”

And this . . .
In simple terms, RPA is a software application that runs on
an end user’s computer, laptop or other device, emulating
tasks executed by human operators.
Its purpose is to integrate or automate the execution of
repetitive, rule-based tasks or activities. RPA does not
require development of code, nor does it necessitate direct
access to the code or database of the applications.”

And this . . .
Most current RPA implementations are in industry-specific
processes such as claims processing in insurance, and risk
management in financial services. These processes, and
their associated tasks, are usually high-volume, structured,
repetitive and implemented on old technology.
Normally, the processes are extremely stable. There is no
technology migration or modernisation roadmap involved,
and IT-led integration would be difficult and expensive.

Optimization of Processes
As robots will be handling the first level processes; human
workforce can focus on more significant strategic initiatives
vital for business such as working with stakeholders. Moreover,
the expedited processes executed through automation will
result in increased throughput and boost productivity beyond
regular business hours.”

Improvement in Compliancy
In case of a mismatch during invoice processing, a bot can
refer to the pre-set set of rules and regulations mentioned in
the contract and place a flag wherever the information is
incomplete and missing. This will result in expedited resolution
of all these cases as it is easier for an automated system to
scan and review the contracts in place and compare them
against standard templates and point out non-standard terms
and conditions.”

Better Risk Management
A human carries out a contract renewal process typically once in
a year whereas a robot can execute it in short span of time (may
be a month or a week). This provides an opportunity to both
vendor and organizations to have multiple contracts in place
specifically for the resources whose price are liable to fluctuate
with time. Both parties bounded through a contract can mitigate
their risks as through automated system it becomes easier to
juggle between many contracts each having multiple terms and
conditions.”

Cost Reduction
An automated system can work more than a human, as well as
faster and more efficiently. This could lead to cost savings as
implementing an automated system is a one time investment which
costs less than employing a full time functional resource. The same
pool of resources could be trained to work for more advanced
processes which require some sort of interpretation of data and
decision making.”

Cost Reduction
Additionally, these L1 level processes which are typically outsourced
to a 3rd party vendor, can be executed in-house, using automation,
thus resulting in more productivity and faster execution along with
cost savings.
