2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17
All Scripture is ….
God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness,
so that the servant of God may
be thoroughly equipped for
every good work.

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
2
2 TIM 1: 7 (NKJV) 8
JOHN 3: 16-17 9
For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have
everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the
world, but that the world through
Him might be saved.
PSALMS 20:7 11
Some trust in chariots and
some in horses, but we
trust in the name of
the Lord our God.

ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT OF
WHY PRAY
Listen carefully to Dr Richard Goetz (13 July 2014)
• on how George Muller prayed
(Christian evangelist and ran orphanages, 1803-1898)
• the Dr Goetz’s closing prayer

ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT OF
WHY PRAY
Change our attitude and change the approach and the
focus of our prayer.. that we will no longer pray how this
will benefit us but the centre focus of our prayer is how
You are going to be glorified through this answer.
We no longer prayed for our benefit …and when the
assistance comes, we want it to glorify You more than
we want it to benefit us.

GLORIFYING GOD IS PRIORITY #1
Slide by Dr Richard Goetz (13 July 2014)
GLORIFYING GOD IN PRAYER
Instead of praying Pray this now:
God, please give
me good grades …
God, let my good grades glorify
you so others can see how you
care for an average student like
me
God, please give us
more money …
God, provide for us so that
others are encouraged to trust
you for their needs
God, help me get
along with my
parents …
God, let your love and
gentleness be evident in me so
that my family can glorify you
for the change they see in me.
Focus on glorifying God and not you
HOW DO I PRAY?
Is there a magic
formula ?
Is there a pattern I
should follow?
Matt 6: 9-13
“This, then, is how you should pray:
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on
earth as it is in heaven.
• Recognise who God is
• Recognise that we have a
special relationship with
Him
• Acknowledge that He is
worthy of our worship and
praise
• Submit to the rule & reign
of God today, on earth
• In heaven, everything is
done to God’s perfect
plan.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Give us today our daily
bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven
our debtors.
And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us
from the evil one.
• God wants us to look to Him
each day for our daily needs
• A right relationship with
God only comes when we
have a right relationship
with others
• Requesting God’s
guidance and protection
from the things that hurt
us spiritually
PATTERN OF PRAYER
A balanced prayer consists of
• Worship
• Praise
• Requests
• Confessions
• More praise & thanksgiving
