This document outlines Portfolium, a career portfolio platform founded by Adam Markowitz. Portfolium allows students to visually showcase their skills, projects, and experiences to employers. It addresses the problem that less than 19% of college students are actively using career services and over 50% of recent graduates don't land a job in their major. Portfolium has partnered with UC Santa Barbara School of Engineering and provides a supplement to LinkedIn by allowing users to copy and paste their Portfolium URL, which then automatically pulls and embeds their portfolio.

Market sizing TAM SAM SOM Target MarketReza Hashemi
Startups need a clear understanding of their market segment and show know about SAM, TAM abd SOM. As a Mentor in StartupWeekend and NEXT program, I have noticed that many entrepreneurs are not familiar with these terms. Here’s a quick explanation of what they mean, as an addition to this useful slides (Copyright notes inside) :TAM is Your Total Available or Addressable Market (everyone you wish to reach with your product) , SAM is Your Segmented Addressable Market or Served Available Market (the portion of TAM you will target), SOM is Your Share of the Market (the subset of your SAM that you will realistically reach – particularly in the first few years of your business), SOM is known as Target Market in Steve Blanc Startup Manual.
Identifying your TAM, SAM and SOM requires some market research.

These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled Biz Models for Hi-Tech Products to analyze the business model for Coursera. Coursera offers massive open online courses and thus challenges the current business models of most universities. It offers these online courses to its students and to the students of other universities. By using courses that have been developed by universities and other organizations and by offering these courses to thousands if not millions of potential customers, Coursera has much lower costs per course and per student than do conventional universities. These slides analyze the challenges for Coursera and the potential solutions in the form of customer selection, value proposition, and method of value capture.

BUSINESS MODEL PIVOTS: How Great Organizations Create and Sustain Competitive...Rod King, Ph.D.
It is an illusion to think that our environment is constant, that is, never changing. If the dinosaurs thought like that millennia ago, that must have been a big mistake. Natural environments are open systems and are in a constant state of flux; the business environment is no exception. Consequently, organizations that grow and thrive are once that are adaptive. In today's business parlance, organizations that create and sustain competitive advantage are the ones that "pivot" while maximizing their strengths and opportunities and minimizing their weaknesses and threats.
In the Lean Startup method, the concept of "pivot" refers to a transformation or structural change of a part of a business model. Such a pivot is made when a team faces an apparently insurmountable challenge in its environment. In this presentation, the concept of a pivot is liberally applied. Here a pivot applies to a non-problem-focused change in parts of a business model. In other words, pivots are applied here to generate ideas and hypotheses to be field tested especially with a view to disrupting traditional business models. Such pivots are necessary when designing game-changing business models.
