David Smoot has an extensive business background covering almost 45 years. After serving in the US Army Reserves, he spent 20+ years in computer hardware and software industry. Smoot then retired to Arizona. After 1 year in retirement, Smoot started a real estate infrastructure development company. He then turned his sights to renewable energy which morphed into renewable designer fuels. He started Hawaii Renewable Fuels, LLC in 2014 and U.S. Advanced Bio-Fuels, Inc. in 2016-17.
Smoot has created a model not seen in this industry to date: a turnkey solution to developing Bio-mass-to-Fuel that is 100% guaranteed with world-class partners, second-generation and proven technologies, fixed “cradle to grave” feed stock, operating and sale of fuel costs, operated by a world-class O&M, all under the umbrella of world-class EPC Wrap.
Currently, less than 3% of the world’s transport fuels come from biofuels which is millions of gallons lower and anticipated and mandated by the US government. Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels, LLC. (NWABF) is on track to change that percentage and increase the number of transport biofuels.
NWABF’s solution is clean, renewable green commercially viable projects producing Sustainable Aviation Fuels that meet increased demand and quality required for the aviation industry over the next 20 years.
NWABF is a renewable energy development company providing sustainable, cellulosic, commercial scale, ASTM compliant designer jet fuel in Washington State, using a voluminous supply of woody bio-mass from local feedstock suppliers. NWABF brought together a World Class Team of engineering and technology companies that utilize established, currently in-use 2nd generation technology.

4. The Problem
Current Renewable Biofuel Trends
• Today less than 3% of the world’s transport fuels come
from biofuels.
• Government mandates require transportation fuels
increase volume of renewable fuel each year since 2005
• By 2021 the International Carbon Standards Board requires
airlines to lower carbon footprint (CO2, Hydrocarbons,
Sulfur, Nitrogen Oxides, Carbon Monoxide).
• CORSIA, a Global Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for
International Aviation, already in effect.
• SeaTac International Airport requires minimum blend of
10% biofuel with standard aviation fuel over next decade.

5. Our Solution
Clean, renewable green Designer Fuels that meet
demand for lower Sulfur and quality required for
the aviation industry over the next 20 years.
Why Woody Biomass
• Produces ”near 0% sulfur jet fuel” (up to
90% less than petroleum-based jet fuels).
• USDA (NARA Project) 5-year evaluation of
woody biomass & supply chain for increasing
efficiency from forest to technology
processes.
• NARA completed the most comprehensive
project to date that defines demand,
opportunity, support and supply chain on
woody biomass.
• The most available and efficient biomass
feedstock available for fuel production.
Our Solution

6. Market Size: Projections
• Millions-of-gallons/yr. is current market
capacity for drop-in, renewable jet fuel.
• Billions of gallons/yr. is the Federal mandate.
• Airlines requirement is between 10-50%. (Blend
with petroleum-based jet fuel).
• SeaTac to use 10% blend of renewable fuels on
all flights over next decade.
• Military demand in Washington State - millions
of gallons/yr.
