This document provides an outline and notes for a lecture on transportation and energy systems. It discusses doing a "Fish E-fish-ency" activity to demonstrate fuel economy, then analyzing the true efficiency and life cycle of different transportation fuels and technologies by considering the full energy system from primary resource to waste. Examples are given of natural renewable resources available in Taiwan for sustainable transportation. Web resources are shared for curriculum development on energy topics aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. The lecture aims to help participants design more sustainable transportation systems through conservation, efficiency improvements, and renewable energy substitution.

Human activities are closely dependent on the usage of several forms and sources of energy to perform work. Energy is essential to maintain every form of life and every society. Adequate and consistent availability of usable energy sources is one of the prerequisites for social, economic, technological and environmental development of a country. It is related to sustainable development as a source of environmental stress, as a principal motor of macroeconomic growth, and as a prerequisite for meeting basic human needs

Successful implementation of DR program is possible if the users participates into it willingly without compromising with their comfortable life style
DR program does not ensure same amount of benefit for all the participating players i.e, some may be incentivized whwre as some can receive penality.
The employment of DR relies on the reliable, robust and secure communication system.
Choice of efficient energy price structure is the main key factor to attract the users towards DR programs.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

"What is an Energy System (2) Transportation Energy Systems "
1. Energy Education and Energy Literacy:
Energy System -
Transportation
Lecture Session No. 3
Wednesday 8.21.19
2019 International Workshop on Energy Education
Tainan, Taiwan
2. OUTLINE, 1 (hidden slide)
This session examines another major energy system, Transportation. start
with efficiency of automobiles, w/discussion (need to figure out how to do this
"Fish E-fish-ency activity" with so many people), then - once again - broaden
our perspective to look 'beyond the automobile' and consider the WHOLE
system. What is the REAL efficiency of an electric car? (depends on where the
electricity comes from!) Introduce them to the 'systems' activity by showing
them the activity online, and having on hand 2 completed posters as
demonstration of what students can do.
1. Fish E ficiency activity (Drew) ~20 min. do this as they return to session -
need activity description)
2. Life Cycle Assessment (Jan) ~20 min. - use slides to walk them through a
big-picture analysis of one or 2 automobiles. We looked at car efficiency,
now what happens when we broaden the system boundary to include
energy resources, treatment, conversion, waste disposal, etc.? Show
them the Life cycle Assessment activity, share an example of one of the
system posters.
3. OUTLINE, 2 (hidden slide)
3. What natural resources does TAIWAN have at its fingertips? (Dre, ~10
min)
4. Wrap up, (Drew) ~10 min. Describe rest of workshop; present
overview of our ‘theme’; show where they can find online resources for
energy-related curriculum development
5. HOT, HOT, HOT (Dre) ~10 min. Don sunglasses, hat, sing!
** Dre introduces activity with a description of why she uses parodies in
her teaching **

and Development (WCED).
“Development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs.”
