Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. - 1. WHAT I’VE LEARNED Jorge H. Pérez
- 2. My name is Jorge Humberto Pérez. I’ve lived in a small town in North Texas called Tioga for as long as I can remember. I don’t have a major as of yet, but the dual credit courses offered at my school by Grayson, such as this one, will allow me to graduate high-school with my associate’s degree. I’m fond of this political cartoon by Nick Anderson because it tackles an important issue in today’s society: gun control. It’s also very appropriate for Texas since our state is known for the stereotype of everyone owning a gun like in the wild west. Nick Anderson, 4/12/09
- 3. MY MOTIVATION IN POLITICS My ethnicity- As you may have guessed, yes, I am Hispanic. My entire family originates from Mexico. This is important to me since I live in Texas, which has one of the largest Hispanic populations in the U.S. Current Issues- Issues like the brute force on immigration are ones I detest and hope to see a change in during the coming decades. Significance- While many of us don’t like to get involved in politics, we all really should at some point in our lives because politics affect us directly whether we like it or not.
- 4. PRIOR TO THIS COURSE Before I ever took this course, I had very little knowledge of the government of our state. Here are some things I learned… Who is running my local government The way Texas’s government functions as part of the U.S. as a whole. The contents of Texas’ constitution.
- 5. ONE MAJOR ISSUE As mentioned earlier, I am against the force that is being put on illegal immigration in this country. There needs to be a less antagonistic approach towards the people with poor economic stance migrating to this country we call an asylum. I don’t like to see people, whose position is one I could have been in, suffer.
- 6. TEXAS’ INFLUENCE I believe Texas plays a major role when it comes to influence on decision making in this country. This is because Texas is the most populated state in the nation right behind California which is on top.
- 7. GOVERNMENT PROCESSES Campaign methods- I learned about actions taken by candidates in campaigns, both legal and illegal. Appointing methods- I learned about different methods for which judges in Texas are appointed. Interest Groups- I learned what an interest group was and how they affect things such as votes. All of these things I’ve learned will stick with me through future courses such as American government and economics.
