The author learned several important lessons from filming shoots for their crime trailer "Crook". They learned the importance of patience when dealing with obstacles like members of the public passing by or waiting for background noise. They also learned to double take shots to limit errors and have a variety of footage to choose from in editing. Finally, they learned to pay close attention to detail, like keeping a character in the same position between shots. Through these shoots, the author gained experience that will help them improve future productions.

What have I learnt from the shoots we did for our Crime trailer ‘Crook’?
The shootingprocessforCrook wasdefinitelyalearningcurbforme and the restof CrossroadFilms.
Duringthe firstshootwe were facedwitharange of differentobstaclesthat Iand fellow Crossroad
FilmsmemberBrandonhadtodeal with,howeverthiswasn’tthe onlyproblemwe encountered
duringthe shootswe did,we alsohad to deal withotherproblemsduringthe othershootswe did
for Crook.I thinkone of the mainthingsthat I have learntfromfilmingispatience,thisisimportant
whendoinganyprojectas patience canhelpaidinmakingthe work youproduce betterandmore
satisfyingonce the endresultisdone.Forme personally,duringall 3of the shootswe didpatience
was needed,forexampleinthe firstshootwe didwhere we wenttoBabbsMill to filmwe had
several membersof the publicpassingby,we decidedtobe patientandwaitfor people towalkpast,
afterpeople passedwe thenresumedfilming. Onthe otherhand,inthe secondshootwe alsohad to
waitfor backgroundnoise tostopso we couldcontinue filming,againshowingthe patiencewe had.
If we didn’thave patience whenfilmingthenIbelieve some of the shotswe hadplannedwouldnot
have worked andthose shotswould’ve lackedquality.
The secondthingI have learntfromthe shootswe did isthe double takingof the shotswe had. A
commonpositive youmayhave seenfromthe ShootingReviewsisthe factthatwe constantly made
sure that we didthe shotswe had twice tomake sure that we limitedthe amountof errorswe could
have for whenitcomesto editingthe trailerforCrookusingthe shotswe filmed.Thisisimportant
because asI previouslymentioneddoing adouble take of a shotwouldlimitanyerrors,furthermore
it wouldalsogive usa varietyof differentshotsthatwe coulduse whencreatingthe final productof
our trailer.One exampleof thiswasduringthe final shootwe didwhere Detective Fosterisseen
discoveringhisfamilywhowere brutallymurderedbyThe Gripwell Killer.We filmedDetective
Fosterwalkingintohishome severaltimestomake sure we hada range of shotsto choose from
post-shoot.One waywe could’ve improvedthe doubletakingof shotswouldbe todoa different
shottype rather thandoingan exactcarbon copy of the previousshot,thiswould’vegivenusa
widerrange of shotsto choose fromfor whenitcame to editing ourtrailer.
Finally,fromthe shootswe didIlearnthow importantitis topay attentiontodetail whenfilming.
For example inthe secondshootthatwe didforCrook we made sure that the shotswe took were
consistent,thiswasevidentinthe shotwe didwhere Detective Fosterwaspickingupa piece of
evidence thathe hadfoundonthe floor,we did2 differentshotsforthisspecificscene which
changedmid-waythrough,we wantedtomake sure thatDetective Fosterwasstandinginthe exact
same place that he was inthe previousshot.Payingattentiontothe littlethingsreallyhelpedinthe
productionof our trailerandI am gladwe appliedthisphilosophyinall 3of ourshoots.
Overall Ithinkthe shootswe didwere all successful andIlearnta lotfrom these shoots.Itwill be
interestingtosee howthe trailerworksoutfor Crook.We can lookback onthe shootswitha sense
of pride because we here atCrossroadFilmsputa lot effortintothese shootsandtriedourbestto
make our traileras goodas possible.
