Network switches are devices that take signals from computers and divide them into multiple signals to send to other computers connected to the switch. Switches operate by recording the media access control (MAC) address of each connected device to identify the source and destination of data packets. When a device sends data, the switch scans the packet header to determine where to send it based on the destination MAC address. Most switches support full-duplex connections to minimize conflicts between incoming and outgoing network traffic.
