IP addresses are unique numeric identifiers assigned to devices connected to a network that allow routers to direct data packets to the correct destination. Each address is made up of four numbers separated by periods and identifies the specific network and device. Websites and computers are assigned IP addresses that serve to locate them on the Internet and allow transmission and receipt of information between networked devices.
