C-level executives (top executives or highest level of
corporate positions in a company) require a variety of
characteristics and skills in other to succeed. Academic
achievements are important but they are not the only
features to be considered. Talents and expertise are part
of the perks that allow these executives to guide teams
into success. In this article we are going to explore these
high ranking executives requirements some more, and
explain the findings about skills required in C-level
positions. We will mention some of the competencies that
companies are looking for currently, so if your aim is to
become a competitive candidate, if you want to know the
abilities you need to focus on developing, these
suggestions can help you plan your next moves.
WHAT ARE COMPANIES LOOKING FOR
IN C LEVEL EXECUTIVES?
As an illustration let us take a look at one particular position. The
most suitable professionals for a management position must be
individuals who have a sense of ethics, strong principles, and always
give a good example, because they are the ones in charge of leading
teams toward the direction that has been established by the
company.
To be a manager is not only to be in charge of resources, but it
means to be able to lead the professionals that manage these
resources. Therefore, a manager must have skills as an educator and
a communicator; they must know in detail what every person under
their leadership is doing and how they contribute to the overall
productivity and expected results. A manager must know the
business very well and have strategic contacts and alliances in the
market. It is necessary that the new leader knows the competitors
really well and how to identify factors that affect the organization
and the viability of the business.

Willpower, frustration management, a sense of
solidarity, tolerance, patience, kindness and respect are
crucial requirements for managers. Also, to have a very
good attitude, to be determined, firm and also flexible
and the ability to model these virtues to others are
necessary.

Accomplished: In your résumé, it is necessary to
highlight your work experience (which is vital in this
kind of positions). In addition, it is also important to
highlight your achievements, to demonstrate your skills
and the challenges that you have overcome in the
industry.

highlight your studies because in many cases very
specific academic training and complementary studies
are required.

C-LEVEL POSITIONS
Vision: You need to convey a sense of confidence and
determination. You must know who you are, where you
want to go, what you want to accomplish and how much
you are going to contribute to the company and to
society.
Team-Player: Having a good attitude not only means
being proactive, but also means be willing to grow
corporately and individually. You need to be a team
player and work well with others.
SKILLS FOR CANDIDATES TO
C-LEVEL POSITIONS
Adaptability to change: C-level positions need to be
filled with people who are able to travel, to move, to
change. These individuals are not afraid of trying new
things and do not want to be stagnate in an office but
they adapt to change and are very dynamic. It is
important to demonstrate a willingness to deal with
today’s constantly changing business environment.
Competence: Other competences that you need to
have technical skills such as mathematical and
computer skills, mastering a second language,
emotional intelligence, good judgment and a great
sense of organization to manage information.

C-LEVEL POSITIONS
Organization: It is important to think methodically, to
be able to see the variables and possible consequences
of each decision, in a holistic way.
Determination: A c-level executive must be resilient
since they are people under much pressure and
exhausting working hours.
Self-awareness: Personal image in terms of behavior,
manners and good presentation is important because
what we do and how we look represent the organization.

market, become great team players, and be able to cope with
high levels of stress. They need to have a great attitude and have
