Students will also be given new spelling words and practice estimation in math. MAP testing will take place from April 12-15 and a skills day is scheduled for April 20. Parents are reminded to return spring pictures and money, check the class blog, and review assignment books with their children.

This lesson plan is for a mixed ability Year 7 class studying The Hunger Games. The learning objectives are for students to select relevant evidence from the text, analyze the text, and write an explanation for a quote. All students will summarize the first four chapters in 5 bullet points and work in pairs to summarize chapter 4 in 7 sentences. Formative assessments include the chapter summaries, a quote quest competition, and completing a table to explain quotes. The quote quest and group work are intended to provide cognitive challenges suited to different abilities. Collaborative learning strategies like group work and discussion are employed.

For this research project for the Kettering Foundation, the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation (NCDD) explored how attendees at the October 2008 NCDD conference in Austin, Texas see citizens’ role in democratic governance and how they see themselves or their work impacting the role citizens play in democratic governance. Furthermore, we examined attendees’ views on how best to address each of the five “challenge areas” we focused on at the conference, specifically asking them for ideas for making progress on the “Systems Challenge” (embedding public engagement in government and other systems) and the “Action & Change Challenge” (strengthening the link between public engagement, citizen action, and policy change).

Furthermore, we examined attendees’ views on how best to address each of the five “challenge areas” we focused on at the conference, specifically asking them for ideas for making progress on the “Systems Challenge” (embedding public engagement in government and other systems) and the “Action & Change Challenge” (strengthening the link between public engagement, citizen action, and policy change).
