Second World War
Italy joined World War II in 1914 and suffered numerous defeats between 1914 and the 1930s. The Allied Landing in Gela
The Allied forces landed troops along the eastern coast of Sicily in July 1943. United States Navy ships delivered United States Army soldiers to the beaches around the town of Gela, where they began to establish a beachhead despite attacks from German and Italian warplanes. The Army troops fought German and Italian tanks defending the area and eventually captured the nearby Ponte Olivo Airfield, which was used by United States Army Air Forces.

Major Greek colonies in Sicily included Syracuse, Acragas, and others, many becoming very wealthy and powerful until being absorbed by the Roman Republic after the Pyrrhic War in the 3rd century BC.
Federico II
Federico II di Svevia was called "the wonder of the world" or "stupor mundi" due to his magnificent court, tolerance of Jews and Muslims, modern conception of the state, and mastery of six languages. He was born in 1194 in Jesi and crowned king at age 4 when his father died. Federico became Duke of Sweden in 1212, then Holy Roman Emperor in 1215. He built his headquarters in Palermo, which exposed him to many ethnic groups and influenced his rule. As king of Sicily, Federico established a centralized monarchy with all power concentrated in his hands through castles and officials.

- 5. In our school there are some classes in which students learn to play a musical instruments. The musical lessons are in the afternoon and you can choose one of four instruments: • Violin • Piano • Guitar • Flute
- 6. Salvatore Quasimodo School offers different activities. There are Cambridge and Delf examinations, sporting activities, excursions to places of historical and cultural interest, Maths games and other various projects
