DR. Madhava’s Logic Academy Offers
Mathematical Aptitude/Logical Reasoning Classes
Purpose of these Classes: Appeal to Curiosity and Imagination
Every kid is curious by birth and as teachers, our job is keep this fire of curiosity alive. It is the
very inquisitive nature of man that helps us succeed and excel in life. Every scientific
breakthrough and every technological development is a direct result of human inquisition and
application of logical thought processes to our observations. These classes are primarily
designed to reach out into the curious centers of every child’s brain and unveil his/her
imagination and creativity.
Content: No New Formulae- Just a New way of Thinking
These classes will not teach you any new course content, but rather the application of what you
are supposed to know. In other words, you don’t need to learn any new formulae to solve a
mathematical problem you will do here, but will learn how you can organize your thought
process to generate the solution, or at least make a sincere attempt to generate one. A sample
set of questions is attached.
MODEL QUESTIONS:
Students will be required to use all of the concepts such as number system operations,
geometry, algebra and coordinate geometry that they learn in school curriculum. An example is
given below.
Ex.1: How many rectangles are there in the figure
given to the right?
Even though, it is a pretty straightforward problem
to count the rectangles one by one and may be even come up with a grouping system, there
are simple mathematical principles of geometry that you can apply to get the solution in less
than 30 seconds. These classes will help you develop that acumen necessary to come up with
your own solution based on developing logical train of thought.
Ex.2: There are some kids and some tents in a camp. If every two kids share a tent, one tent
will be left over. If every three kids are put into one tent, then four tents are left unoccupied.
How many kids are there in total?
Even though this problem can be done by trial and error, high schoolers will be required to
generate an algebraic equation and generate a solution.
Some problems can be solved easily by understanding the nature and the order of the number
system. Ex. 3: Find the sum of all the even numbers from two to hundred.
These classes also encompass lateral thinking problems to appeal to 3D imagination and spatial
reasoning problems such as this. Ex.4: A bug needs to crawl from one corner of a rectangular
box to the farthest diametrically opposite corner. If the base dimensions are 6 & 8 cm and the
height is 10 cm, what is the shortest path for the bug?
Whom is this for? Target age group is 12 to 14. High school kids from VII to IX grades
are allowed to take this class. Kids can be from any school and any syllabus.
Even though the content looks quite generic, these classes are NOT for everyone.
Only kids with zeal towards learning can excel and benefit from these classes. Obviously, if
someone is way below average in their math fundamentals, they may not be able to follow
these classes, since they require higher order thinking and imagination.
Anyone interested is required to clear a screening test to be enrolled. This will involve basics of
Mathematics and simple application of mathematical concepts.
Proposed/ Intended Class Schedule:
Batch-1: WED 430-530, FRI 430 – 600, Sun 1030 – Noon.
Batch-2: TUES 430-530, THU 430-530 SUN 8 AM – 9 AM.
Course Duration: 15 weeks starting from September 21st,2016, till the end of December.
Classes Venue: Shilpa Hills, Hitech City, Khanamet.
Call: Dr. Madhava Madireddy (9133532197), meet, consult and take a screening test.
