Data Communication
through Visualization
Data presentation plays the key role in interpretation of the
communicated information by the audience. A variety of methods can be
used to communicate information including textual forms, however, these
are often overwhelming to interpret due to complexity or/and amount of
data. As a result, the audience can misinterpret the information which is
why it is crucial to present data in a way which is easily understood.

statistics, they care about
results and interpretations.

What not to say
Since analytical people are comfortable with technical terms they
often assume that their audience will be too. But most of the
audience won’t understand the technical jargon. As one analyst
at a travel firm put it, “Nobody cares about your R2.”

  • 5. 5 A picture is worth a thousand words.
  • 6. Data Communication through Visualization Data presentation plays the key role in interpretation of the communicated information by the audience. A variety of methods can be used to communicate information including textual forms, however, these are often overwhelming to interpret due to complexity or/and amount of data. As a result, the audience can misinterpret the information which is why it is crucial to present data in a way which is easily understood. 6
  • 7. We should never make the mistake of assuming that the results will “Speak for themselves. Two Key Insights Most audiences neither understand nor appreciates statistics, they care about results and interpretations. 7

  • 9. What not to say Since analytical people are comfortable with technical terms they often assume that their audience will be too. But most of the audience won’t understand the technical jargon. As one analyst at a travel firm put it, “Nobody cares about your R2.” 9
