DISCUSSION/FIRM UP/PRESENTATION
Philosophy explores the relationship between humanity and the
environment.
Environmental Philosophy/Environmental Ethics
- discipline in philosophy that studies the moral relationship of human
beings with the environment and its non-human contents or components..
(mining co)
Environmental Philosophers tackle issues such as
1)Humanities role in nature world
2)Interaction between nature and human activities
3)Humanities response to environmental challenges
3 MAJOR VIEWS BETWEEN HUMANS AND ENVIRONMENT
1. Anthropocentrism - focuses on the significant role of humankind in the
world and considers nature as the means by which humans are able to meet
their needs and survive.
2. Biocentrism - believes that humans are not the only
significant species on the planet, and all that organisms
have inherent value and should be protected.
3. Ecocentrism - places great value on ecosystem and
biological communities. This view believes that humankind
is part of a greater biological system/community and that
we have a significant role as stewards or guardians of
nature.

Gaia Hypothesis

Biologist believes that all biological organism interact with each other
and each organism has an important need in the ecosystem
ENVIRONMENTAL ASTHETICS-
One philosophical view that believes maintaining order in the environment
will bring out the natural beauty of the surroundings and contribute to the
well-being of the people and other organisms living in it.
One important development that arose during the late 20th century.
Environmentalism
A social movement or an ideology focused on the welfare of the
environment. Environmentalism seeks to protect and conserve the elements
of earth's ecosystem. This movement aims to correct the damage and
prevent future destruction.
 Environmental ethics serves as a basis for reflecting on how our action
show our regard for nature
 Environmentalist encourages our individual action but apart from individual
action, it is so encourages the government, to commit to change the world
into a better place to live in. Environmentalist believes that in order for
humanity to continue sustainable development should be the goal for
everyone
Sustainable development
The overarching paradigm of the United Nations. The concept of sustainable
development was described by the 1987 Bruntland Commission Report as
"development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
Sustainability
Sustainability is often thought of as a long-term goal (i.e. a more sustainable
world), while Sustainable development refers to the many processes and
pathways to achieve it (e.g. Sustainable agriculture and forestry, sustainable
production and consumption, good government, research and technology
transfer, education and training, etc.).
1. Environmental Integrity refers to maintaining the state of the
environment. This means that human activities should not disrupt the
ecosystems and the communities located in the area.
2. Economic Efficiency - prudence in decision making regarding the use of
resources to ensure that there is minimum to zero-waste.
3. Equity - demands that we use our natural resources in such a manner
that these are conserved so that the next generation will be able to use
them.
- the virtues of prudence and frugality can help us in our
personal use of resources
Prudence - the ability to regulate one's actions and behavior, but with
regards to environment, it is a skill and good judgment in the use of
resources.
Frugality is being thrifty with the use one's resources.
"We are a part of nature. And to betray nature is to betray us, To save
nature is to save us. Because if we don't work all together to save the
environment, we will all be equally extinct."
Prince Ea
"Our LOVE for humanity can be manifested in LOVE and CONCERN for
NATURE.

Editor's Notes

  1. Have you notice about the changes. The study shows that our world are changing but not for the better its for the worst and who is responsible for tis? We are the human beings have a huge contribution in the effect of what is happening in the environment whether living or non-living things.
  2. There are 3 major views regarding the relationship bet humans and the environment
  3. This views believes that humans are the superior or the most important creatures on earth and that they are free to transform nature and use its resources according to their purposes or needs. For example the loggers for furnitures, the farmers digging the soil. So our nature or our environment change depending on mans needs. Basically our environment is being utilized depending on humans purposes or needs
  4. Every specie has a value that should be protcted as well. this views drives the activities and the movement for the rights and protection of animals . Our govt has pass laws recognized the rights and the welfare of animls such as RA 8485 or animal welfare act of 1998.
  5. This views promotes the idea that order and the balance in nature brings about stability and beauty.
  6. So this are the views which sees the relationship bet human and environment. One is
  7. This is actually the goal ofmany countries around the world. They have to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness in their surroundings or environment because it will bring natural beauty of the surroundings. If you preserve the natural beauty of nature a lot of people will go there and enjoy the view. Recently we experiencea lot of flood….. But are we doing to make our environment a better place to live in
