Avoiding Java EE Application Design Traps to Achieve Effective Use of Cloud C...Dr. Spock
Cloud computing and the Java EE platform have evolved to provide a runtime environment for Java EE applications with minimal architectural interference. This evolution is addressing issues from the application server and cloud infrastructure point of view. However, design decisions and best practices for the conception of an architecture can influence the choice of a cloud environment. This session presents some tips and tricks for avoiding the traps that prevent effective use of a cloud infrastructure during development of a typical Java EE application. Each tip and trick is evaluated in terms of its impact on the performance, scalability, distribution, elasticity, and cost of some clouds on the market.

It discusses how each IDE supports key Java EE 6 APIs like JPA, JAX-RS, JSF 2.0, CDI, and how they allow working with GlassFish servers. NetBeans and IntelliJ generally provide the best support for Java EE 6 features out of the box, while Eclipse support has improved but still lacks support for some new APIs and concepts.
The Very Very Latest in Database Development - Oracle Open World 2012Lucas Jellema
The document discusses using virtual columns in Oracle databases to implement business rules and uniqueness constraints across tables in a declarative way. Virtual columns allow expressing attributes as SQL expressions of real columns, enabling indexing and foreign key constraints that check rules involving multiple tables or columns. Business rules that were previously only possible through procedural logic can now be enforced at the database level through virtual columns.
Maven is a project management and build tool that is commonly used for Java projects. It uses a Project Object Model (POM) file to manage a project's build, reporting, documentation and dependencies. EdCamp News & UpDates
By now, it is safe to say that EdCamp is fast consolidating itself as the conference you go to when you don't want to sit passively in an audience of your peers and listen to the wisdom of the "guru" of the moment.
You go to an EdCamp near you.
You want to be active, share what you are doing in your classroom, look for real world solutions to real world problems, collaborate and cooperate with peers.
You go to an EdCamp near you...
EdCamp is free, democratic, conversation-based, participant-driven professional development for teachers by teachers...
According to the EdCamp Foundation, an authentic Edcamp has the following features:
"free: Edcamps should be free to all attendees. This helps ensure that all different types of teachers and educational stakeholders can attend.
non-commercial and with a vendor free presence: Edcamps should be about learning, not selling. Educators should feel free to express their ideas without being swayed or influenced by sales pitches for educational books or technology.
hosted by any organization or anyone:
Anyone can host an Edcamp. School districts, educational stakeholders, and teams of teachers have hosted Edcamps. YOU could be the next Edcamp organizer!
made up of sessions that are determined on the day of the event:
<strong>Edcamps do not have scheduled presentations</strong>.
During the morning of the event, the schedule is created in conjunction with everyone there. I know it sounds crazy, but it works! Sessions end up being spontaneous, interactive, and responsive to participants’ needs.
events where anyone who attends can be a presenter:
Anyone who attends an Edcamp is able to be a presenter. All teachers and educational stakeholders are viewed as professionals worthy of sharing their expertise in a collaborative setting.
reliant on the law of two feet that encourages participants to find a session that meets their needs:
As anyone can host a session, it is critical that participants can actively self-select the best content and sessions. <strong>Edcampers are encouraged to leave sessions that do not meet their needs.</strong>
This provides a uniquely effective way of “<strong>weeding out</strong>” sessions that are not based on appropriate research or not delivered in an engaging format."

This document provides an overview of using Node.js for backend integration. It discusses how Node.js uses a single thread model with asynchronous and non-blocking I/O to provide high performance. Common Node.js frameworks like Express and Hapi are presented. The document also covers integrating Node.js with databases like Oracle NoSQL and MongoDB using modules like node-oracledb and mongoose. It provides examples of calling PL/SQL functions and using connection pooling with Node.js and Oracle Database. Finally, it introduces Application Container Cloud as providing capabilities beyond what Node.js alone offers like high availability, management, and support.

OSMC 2021 | Use OpenSource monitoring for an Enterprise Grade PlatformNETWAYS
There are many tools and frameworks for monitoring. Usually when you think of an Open Source solution, you don’t think to implement it in a COTS product. Nevertheless, this session will tell you how you can implement tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and ELK into such an Enterprise application platform. Monitoring performance, throughput and error rate is important to be in control of your transactions. If you use a Service Bus or SOA/BPM suite product there are a lot out of the box diagnostics waiting for you. The puzzle here is how to get it out in a useful way. Besides of the many commercial solutions also Open Source tools can help you out with it. You can export runtime diagnostics out of the Diagnostics framework, monitor your SOA Composites and trace down Service Bus statistics using Prometheus and Grafana. The session will elaborate how to set up a proper monitoring using these tools, also in a proactive way where automated monitoring is a must for every application environment.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
Have you ever been confused by the myriad of choices offered by AWS for hosting a website or an API?
Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, Lightsail, Amplify, S3 (and more!) can each host websites + APIs. But which one should we choose?
Which one is cheapest? Which one is fastest? Which one will scale to meet our needs?
Join me in this session as we dive into each AWS hosting service to determine which one is best for your scenario and explain why!

Main point: foundation-level middleware is critical for business efficiency, competitiveness, and simplificationWe’re talking here today about middleware, and in particular, the bottom of the middleware stack. The “foundation of the foundation” as we said earlier. What does this low-level stuff have to do with business-level efficiency, competitiveness, and simplification? A lot, as it turns out.The foundation is make-or-break for a number of fundamental characteristics of all layers of technology above it. In the efficiency area, it directly controls how well underlying resources such as hardware is utilized. The foundation’s support for management and automation have huge impact on the time and cost it takes to run your IT operations. In the competitiveness area, the most obvious impact is raw performance. Application-server-level technologies are critical to how much of the underlying hardware’s computing potential you can squeeze out for your applications. But it is also critical for reliability and flexibility. Super high performance that breaks all the time doesn’t help you retain customers. A foundation that is hard to change hinders your ability to innovate at a business level to compete. And finally, simplification. As the bottom of the stack, the foundation is a highly leveraged place to consolidate and standardize. The more consistent you can make this underlying layer across all your diverse applications and services, the more you can simplify and automate operational tasks.
