6 Underrated Responsibilities of PMs by Google Product Leader.pdfProduct School
Product Management is one of the most critical roles in the industry today, even more so within the technology industry. Quite ironically also, it is one of the most misunderstood roles, and often seems like an enigma. While there seems to be a broad understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a product manager, the devil is always in the detail. This talk will highlight 6 extremely underrated, but super critical responsibilities of product managers, in an attempt to demystify the role.
Storytelling: Building Trust as a Product Ldr by Klaviyo Sr PMProduct School
- Storytelling should be proactive: By crafting a strong story that you share early and reinforce often, you can eliminate the need for more heavy handed stakeholder management tactics.
- Storytelling should be planned: To own the end-to-end narrative about your product and how you work, you need to plan ahead and develop consistent themes that help you tell this story.
- Storytelling should be personal: Spend time learning who key stakeholders at your organization are, what each stakeholder group wants to hear, and how they want to hear it.

It emphasizes understanding how customers actually use products.
The document discusses prioritization in product development. It provides definitions of prioritization and discusses what needs to be prioritized, such as products, features, bugs and optimizations. It also lists common questions to consider when prioritizing, such as determining customer value. Several problems in prioritization are outlined, like having too many stakeholders or an inability to measure outcomes. How to Find and Succeed at Your Job by Cornerstone OnDemand PMProduct School
Key takeaways:
- Transitioning from Analyst roles into Product
- Life and career outlook as a data/reporting product manager
- Learning to love the other side of data - qualitative data
- Product managing your own life to increase productivity and happiness
Product management comes with responsibility without true authority, requiring difficult decisions based on limited information. It involves juggling many diverse tasks without being an expert in all areas. Some companies improperly use product managers for project management work instead of product work, which does not scale as well. While agile practices can help, they can also overwhelm product managers. Ultimately, even with the right approach, products can still fail through no fault of the product manager. Key skills for product managers include diplomacy, rapport building, negotiation, detailing benefits, seeking feedback, and being comfortable with failure.

HCL Notes und Domino Lizenzkostenreduzierung in der Welt von DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-und-domino-lizenzkostenreduzierung-in-der-welt-von-dlau/

6. Being OK with Ambiguity
Derek Kwan, COO @ ReSci + Ex-Yahoo! PM
7. What we’ll cover today
● Encountering ambiguity
● Turning ambiguity into structure
● Which decisions should be fast vs slow
● When to use intuition vs statistical thinking
8. Between calculated risk and reckless decision-making lies
the dividing line between profit and loss.
-Charles Duhigg
9. A decision needs to be made
with imperfect information
and an uncertain outcome
13. PM’s + Leaders are ambiguity filters
● Ambiguity is part of your job
○ Your inputs will sometimes / often be ambiguous
● Your outputs
○ Need to be structured
○ Need to be thought through
○ Need to factor secondary and tertiary effects
22. Are risks well known?
● If risks are well known, you need intuition less
○ Data is more readily available, statistical analysis makes
more sense
● If risks are not well known, you need more intuition
○ Data is not readily available, so more qualitative analysis
makes sense
25. Hand reading - also not magic
● Observation
● Pattern recognition
● Structured hand analysis
● Math
● Critical thinking / probabilistic thinking
26. Good intuition comes from hard work
● PM’s and leaders who “guess right” often…
○ Deeply understand their market and users
○ Have good “product sense”
○ Are constantly learning and keeping up to date on trends
○ Critically think + consider secondary and tertiary effects
○ Measure what matters
○ Can think probabilistically and use heuristics
29. Heuristics
● Make fast + accurate (but not perfect) decisions without a lot
of data
○ Rules of thumb
○ Availability heuristic
○ Educated guesses
○ Trial and error
33. Wrapping up
● Embrace ambiguity for yourself
● Remove ambiguity for others
● Speed vs accuracy based on downside and reversibility
● Use intuition when risks are not well known
● Intuition is based on knowledge, thinking, preparation
● Probabilistic thinking and heuristics are good frameworks
