Ericsson Technology Review: Tackling IoT complexity with machine intelligenceEricsson
IoT-based systems will require a high level of decision making automation both in terms of infrastructure management and within the logic of the IoT applications themselves. Decision support systems (DSSs) are an essential tool in this context on account of their ability to enhance human decision-making processes with machine intelligence. The cognitive automation framework that we have created at Ericsson speeds up the development and deployment of intelligent DSSs by reusing as much knowledge as possible, including domain models, behaviors and reasoning mechanisms. The framework substantially reduces operational costs for IoT-based system management by enabling DSSs to make decisions about how to adapt to changes in their context and environment with minimal or no human interaction.

Joshua Ness (Verizon 5G Labs): How 5G will drive a hardware revolution (and how you can prepare for it)
A decade ago, advancements in hardware technology drove innovations in network infrastructure -- and we've collectively been reaping the benefits ever since. But this symbiosis of high-speed wireless connectivity and device capabilities is about to be upended by the arrival of 5G. The advanced network platform is poised to enable a hardware revolution, and this has significant (some might say "huge") implications for creators and technologists. The fact is: 5G is here, and innovators are skating to where the puck is going to be. Learn how you can meet them there and be ready when this new technology presents new opportunities for the augmented reality industry. (Spoiler: that time is now.)

Cloud and Edge: price, performance and privacy considerations in IOT, by Tsvi...Cloud Native Day Tel Aviv
As the public, private and consumer sectors rush to the cloud, the main hurdles are not feasibility or sensor/network price.
They are -Complexity of deployment due to inadequate IOT standards, inability to guarantee performance, and a growing fear of the liabilities generated by holding and processing data with privacy aspects.
The world has developed faster than humans even imagined it to. It is coming to a stage where almost everything is beginning to depend on internet. So, what exactly is Internet of Things? Anything and everything which can be assigned an IP address and provided the ability to transfer data can be branched under internet of things.
While it is still a human who operates a computer, when it comes to storing and remembering data, a computer might perform better. This being said, humans have become completely dependent on a system in every walk of their life. Some companies have utilized this opportunity and also leveraged it to derive profits. This has also helped people keep track of latest happenings, of things that they like and more.
No matter who wins the 2020 presidential election federal spending on infrastructure is likely to increase. 5G infrastructure investments will be part of that.
As wireless networks have improved over the years, they have been built to progressively more rigorous standards.

Edge and 5G: What is in it for the developers?Michelle Holley
5G is not just the next generation of networks but is also an innovation platform for services, applications, and connected devices. Moving services and applications to edge is accelerating services “today”, without having to wait for 5G to happen. But what does it take to develop an application that is ready for the Edge and 5G? What sort of hardware, software and ecosystem can enable an application that is future ready. In this talk we will discuss what is Intel doing in this space not only terms of products and solutions but also acting as an vendor neutral eco system enabler. We will also discuss the opportunities available to developers today no matter where they belong in the ecosystem.
Speaker: Chandresh Ruparel, Director, Ecosystem Strategy and Intel Network Builders
Presenter: Simon Floyd, Microsoft
As intelligent, connected products become pervasive and data are streaming back from the field, there will be profound implications for product design and development across industries. Hear the vision of how these changes will affect the business of engineering and transform the way manufacturing companies deliver value utilizing a combination of cloud, analytics and PLM technologies.
Mobile data traffic volumes are expected to increase by a factor of four by 2025, and 45 percent of that traffic will be carried by 5G networks. To deliver on customer expectations in this rapidly changing environment, communication service providers must overcome challenges in three key areas: building sufficient capacity, resolving operational inefficiencies through automation and artificial intelligence, and improving service differentiation. This issue of ETR magazine provides insights about how to tackle all three.

Module 10 - Section 2: ICTs, the environment and climate change & Section 3: ...Richard Labelle
Innovation in ICTs can have a significant impact in mitigating the impact of climate change and have an important role to play in facilitating and managing adaptation to climate change.
Slide presentations developed to demonstrate how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) be used to address climate change, and why ICTs are a crucial part of the solution – i.e. in promoting efficiency, Green Growth & sustainable development, in dealing with climate change and for climate and environmental action. These slide presentations were delivered in February 2011 in Seongnam, near Seoul in Korea.
These presentations were developed and delivered over 2.5 days on the occasion of a Regional Training of Trainers Workshop for upcoming Academy modules on ICT for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Abatement. These modules were developed as part of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government leaders developed by the United Nations (UN) Asia Pacific Centre for ICT Training (APCICT), based in Songdo City, in the Republic of South Korea.
These presentations were developed in 2011, and are somewhat out of date, but most of the principles still apply. Module 10, which has been published, does not include much of the information outlined in these presentations, which are fairly technical. They were developed to address a significant gap in understanding of the technical basis of using ICTs for climate action and because there is a clear bias in development circles against the importance of dealing with climate change mitigation in developing countries. These presentations are an attempt to redress this lack and are published here with this purpose in mind.
The author, Richard Labelle, is presently working on updating these presentations to further highlight the importance of addressing climate change and the important role that technology including ICTs, play in this effort.
An annual survey of the IoT developer community that was sponsored by Eclipse IoT, AGILE IoT and IEEE IoT. The report includes developer usage of different IoT standards, technology and industry perceptions.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Will be adopted in phases
Implemented in a hybrid-model as new equipment moves into the network
Over the next few years, the Internet of Things promises to reshape the products we use every day
They will be Smarter
Intuitive
Dramatically impact the way we live our lives
Manufacturers and retailers will need to develop new business models for the connected consumer
The ICT industry will need to match this pace of innovation
Whether it is enabling the enterprise or capitalizing on new market opportunities
We are on the edge of a new era of connectivity, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Thank you
