Wave energy comes from ocean waves generated by wind blowing over the surface of the water. There is a lot of energy in ocean waves. Wave power devices extract this energy directly from the motion of the waves or pressure fluctuations below the surface. One method of generating electricity works similarly to a reverse pool wave machine, where waves cause air to move in and out of a chamber, turning a turbine connected to a generator. While wave energy is renewable and produces no waste, a consistent wave source is required and devices must withstand rough weather.
