Public relations aims to reach and persuade audiences through a range of efforts including writing, editing, media relations, events, research, and more. Major PR firms include Burson-Marstellar, Hill & Knowlton, and Ketchum. PR tools include media relations, press releases, video news releases, and social media. However, video news releases are controversial as they market products disguised as news stories without labeling. PR has an adversarial relationship with the press, seeking publicity while blocking unfavorable coverage. PR also raises questions about democracy when politicians hire firms to shape their public images through free media exposure.

1) The RRC plugged 1,020 abandoned orphan wells in FY2023 using $51.5 million from its state-funded plugging budget, exceeding its target by 9%. It also plugged 730 orphan wells using $32 million in federal funds.
2) The RRC is working to obtain primacy over Class VI injection wells for carbon sequestration from the EPA. It has completed one application and has one more in process, with 14 new submissions expected.

Borehole magnetic resonance (BMR) logging is an emerging technology that can characterize aquifers by measuring properties like porosity, pore size distribution, bound versus mobile water, and hydraulic conductivity. Case studies in Texas showed BMR provided more detailed information than traditional logs, identifying low-TDS zones for well screens. In Arizona, BMR estimated hydraulic conductivity was higher than slug tests and aligned better with aquifer tests.
