3. We then did a quick pair-share
followed by a share-aloud.
Students either read their idea
about the water cycle or
showed the class their
illustrations
9. Materials
● 9 six-sided dice
● 9 stations
● 1 copy of each student info
sheet (soil surface, plant, river,
ocean, lake, animal, ground
water, glacier, clouds)
● 1 Incredible Journey
Worksheet per student
10. Investigation
1. Students move from station to
station rolling the dice each time
2. At each station they record the
name of their station and next to it,
“what happened” or how they got
there, next they record where they
think they are going next in the
water cycle before they roll the dice
3. They roll the dice and then head to
the next station
11. The process...
Students continue this simulation
until they have rolled the dice 10
times and filled up 10 rows on their
“Incredible Journey”
Sometimes they might get stuck at a
station and continue to roll the dice
multiple times at the same station
before they finally roll a number that
allows them to move.
You’re stuck!
16. Follow-up:
● We read a short article about the Water Cycle that students had to annotate
and answer four short comprehension questions about.
● When finished they pair-shared their answers with their elbow partners.
● In the end, they answered the question:
○ What did you learn about the water cycle this week that you didn’t know about it last week...
17. What did you learn about the water cycle this week, that
you didn’t know last week?
