Water is essential for all life but availability is decreasing while demand is increasing. Over 80 countries with 40% of the world's population already face water shortages and by 2020 the world's population will double. Water infrastructure costs have risen as water quality in rivers and underground sources has deteriorated from pollution. Ecosystems are being destroyed and over 1 billion people lack safe water while 3 billion lack sanitation, with 80% of infectious diseases being waterborne and killing millions of children each year. Water is fundamental for life, health, and dignity.
