IIT Kharagpur plans to utilise the waste generated in the hostel mess facilities for generating
bio-gas that may be used as fuel. The gasifier residue may be used as manure.
The option is of setting up a few smaller capacity plants or a larger plant in a central location.
Provide a comprehensive project report to the Institute that must include the logic,
assumptions and economic calculations, if any, for a central plant or a set of smaller capacity
plants that you decide. Clearly show the location(s) of plant(s) on a campus map.
The properly indexed report needs to include / address the following for at least one plant
- Executive summary
- Processing capacity of the plant and gas generation rate – peak and average
- Process selection and justification for the same. Operating conditions.
- Gas storage and despatch; Feed and residual waste transport and disposal.
- P&I Diagram and Plot plan
- Material balance of the plant; Utility (power, water, compressed air or any other) and
manpower requirement.
- Detailed design of the reactor with fabrication drawing.
- Instructions for commissioning and normal operation of the plant.
- Estimate of the investment required and the economics of operation
- Project schedule and a list of potential engineering contractors with similar project
execution experience.
The report can contain maximum of 20 pages (printed on one side; Text body: 12 pt, Times
New Roman) including cover page. Annexure(s) containing additional information, if
provided, cannot exceed 12 pages in total.
