In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Spiritual Emphasis Month
Family Christian Center
January 1st
through 31st
, 2024
Dear Family
We are gearing up for a wonderful year by starting 2024 off right by emphasizing activities that
will draw us closer to our LORD. Our points of emphasis are prayer, reading God’s word and
doing acts that will bring God glory. I want to invite you to work your way through this guide.
There are daily challenges to stretch us. A Bible challenge to deepen our understanding of God’s
word. And a call for weekly fasting and more activities to deepen your commitment to the LORD.
Please read the entire guide first. If you need clarification, please ask. I will post the daily
challenges on Facebook and a link to the guide as well. Talk to your friends about what we are
doing and share with them what God is doing with you personally. I’m looking forward to
hearing what you are discovering this month.
God bless.
Pastor Ed
Week Of Prayer – January 7-13
“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in
our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3:2, NIV)
Sunday – Consistency Ask God to help us be faithful and steadfast in prayer.
Monday – Repentance Pray to repent of our sins and seek God’s favor for ourselves,
our families, and our nation.
Tuesday – Intercession Pray for the Holy Spirit’s strength to persist in prayer.
Wednesday – Evangelism Pray for boldness to share the gospel with those who need
Christ.
Thursday – Unity Pray that believers will be unified in love as we seek God
together.
Friday – Spiritual Gifts Pray for the gifts of the Spirit to operate in our lives and in our
churches.
Saturday – Renewal Pray for a deeper desire to know Christ and experience the power of
his Spirit in our lives.
3. Bible Challenge
This year we will go through the Gospel of John on Sunday mornings. It will take most of the
year if not all of it! To prepare for this sermon series I would like for everyone to read this
encouraging Gospel. The apostle john said, “…these are written so that you may believe that
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John
20:31) there are 21 chapters in this Gospel so if you read only one chapter a day you will finish
before the month is over.
I would like to encourage you to download Bible. Is for your smartphone and listen to daily. If you
do not have a smartphone you can listen by typing “the Book of John” on YouTube. If you would
like a CD can be provided. It takes about two hours to listen to this book.
And finally, I would like you to watch one or both movies, the Gospel of John (2003) or the
Gospel of John (2014). Both are available on YouTube. If you have a streaming channel, it is
more than likely one or both may be available. The church will also have several copies for you
to borrow. The 2003 version is over 3 hours long, while the 2014 is around 2 and a half hours
long. Multiple sittings are ok to make it through these!
Fasting & Prayer
I am asking everyone who can, fast and pray on Fridays in the month of January (1/5, 1/12, 1/19
and 1/26). I would ask that you pray for our church. You can pray for our leadership, families
within the church, ministries of the church and anything that is related to Family Christian
Center. You can fast in different ways. Fast a meal, fast from sunup to sundown, fast for twenty-
four hours or any way that you feel lead to do. If health concerns keep you from fasting, then
spend an extra hour in prayer for our church family.
